Goner Message Board / ???? / Gene Clark's "Two Sides to Every Story"
Posted: Jun 6, 2006 8:17 pm

I noticed that Gene Clark does a cover of a song called Mary Lou on this album. Anyone know if this is the same one that the Oblivians cover?

AMG doesn't give the song titles/credits for this album so I can't compare. I realize there are million songs called Mary Lou so it probably isn't, but wanted to know if anyone (O's?) knew.

at gene clark's funeral keith carradine went up to the coffin and started screaming expletives at it. they had to drag him out of there kicking and screaming. something about a teenage girl.

Stephanie, it's the same song. They're both covers of the Ronnie Hawkins tune.

According to Gene Clark freak Greg Roberson, it's the same song

Greg Roberson
Do you talk to him, Golightly? I see him every now and then. Ironically, I saw him the morning we left for the Blackout in traffic.
Tell him I said "Howdy", if you talk to him.

No problemo, Stephanie.

Same song, many versions. I've only finally just heard the Young Jessie version and have to say it puts the rest to shame (no surprise there, I guess).

On a semi-related note, seeing the subject header for this thread, I'd kinda rather see a thread for the Roadmaster record.

Think I'll start one now.
