Goner Message Board / ???? / we need help with venues in YOUR town!
Posted: May 17, 2006 9:25 pm

We are gathering a master list of live music venues for the continental US and we have some gaps we're trying to fill, so if anyone can be of assistance, we'd really be grateful. Size of venue/space does not matter...

We need venue names (and a link to their website if possible) in these areas:

Athens, OH
Boise, ID
Chapel Hill, NC
Denver, CO
Boulder, CO
Des Moines, IA
Fargo, ND
Kansas City. MO
Lafayette, IN
Las Vegas, NV (besides Double Down)
Louisville, KY
Mobile, AL
New Orleans, LA (besides Circle Bar)
Omaha, NE
Orlando, FL
Pittsburgh, PA (besides Smiling Moose)
Providence, RI
Salt Lake City, UT
San Jose, CA (besides Blank Club)
Vancouver, BC
Washington, DC

thanks!!!

The only Goner-worthy spot in San Jose other than the Blank Club (that I'm aware of) is the fabulous Caravan Lounge, 98 S. Almaden Avenue, San Jose, CA 95113. 408-995-6220. It's definitely a dive.

Thanks for all the help! We're now up to 60 cities and about 175 venues across the US, and the site goes live next week. Please feel free to add any other towns and venue/space links to this thread (no spot too small or too big), and we'll add them to the database.

places to see rock'n'roll/garage/punk rock shows in Vancouver:

Pub 340
The Marine Club

The Astoria (aka The Asbalt) http://www.asbalt.com
The Piccadilly Pub (aka The Pic)
The Railway Club http://www.therailwayclub.com (not a dive, but they have good shows now and then)

Bigger venues for better-known bands that you might not even care about:

The Commodore (75 year-old venue that was a lot cooler before HOB took it over) www.hob.com/venues/concerts/commodore/
Richard's on Richards http://www.richardsonrichards.com (this place is actully a discotheque that sometimes has rock shows, but they'll kick you out at 10 so they can let the bar stars in. The cheapest beer is $5.50 and the staff hates rock and roll music and the people who come to the shows. The toilets are broken and filthy. When the Black Lips played there, Joe was on a 3 foot drum riser and mic'd to sound like he was backing a stadium rock band. The layout is great, though.)

Venues without websites might have more info online at http://www.livemusicvancouver.com

I'm sure I'm forgetting something. A lot of venues die or change formats within a year of opening.
