No. I'm pretty sure it's Virginia.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:14 pm

How bout Buffalo?
I agree Detroit should be on the list... alot of good music came out of there but it's a craphole.
What's wrong with Xenia, OH? It's just a little podunk town. (One of my friends named her daughter Xenia... yes she is a hippie.)
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:28 pm

its phoenix. deal with it.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:32 pm

cleveland, hands down. i hate that place. yuck.

xenia, ohio is a total shithole.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:33 pm

Gary, Indiana is usually the stock midwestern response.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:39 pm

manitowoc and menasha suck. so does neenah, oshkosh, little chute, grand chute, appleton, kimberly, kaukauna, greenville, hortonville, marion, clintonville among many other "ville's" and "woc's" in the area.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:45 pm

East St Louis, Illinois. Urban anarchy. They went two or three years in the 90's without any trach pickup, so the residents just piled it up on the curb anyway.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:51 pm

The black hole that is Portland, OR.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 9:53 pm

Virginia.
yea.. Hampton Roads..Norfolk or as some say Norfuck. Newport News. pretty dumpy and poverty stricken last time i was there..

How bout Buffalo?

Buffalo is a great city with the some of the coolest people, best junk food, bar districts and neat-o architecture.

There do happen to be a larger-than-average number of dullards there, and that's the main reason the city is in the shitter almost 30 years after the bottom fell out. People are STILL waiting for jobs that are never coming back to North America, let alone BFLO. Definitely lacking in the can-do, self-starter department. Still has that old-city charm, though.

Gary, Indiana and Detroit top my list.

From my limited travels, I say Camden NJ.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 11:08 pm

St. Louis fucking sucks.
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 11:22 pm

hands down.....Dallas
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 11:27 pm

Bakersfield, Ca, that is some fucked-up city,
sometimes described as meth capital of california...
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 11:31 pm

LA, duh!
Posted: Mar 24, 2006 11:57 pm

I've never been to Houston but a friend whose band has toured every nook and cranny of this nation many times says it's indisputably the worst city and I would second that motion purely on musical terms--how can the fourth-largest city in the country have NO bands?? Really Red, Horton Heat, Geto Boys and...Beyonce???

Based on personal experience, I'd say Gary appears to be the armpit of the universe (note when taking the I-90 Skyway that they raised the walls on the sides of the freeway passing through downtown Gary--is this so travellers can't see how shitty their town is, or is it to protect us from stray bullets?) I've actually been around many parts of the Detroit metro area and have never seen 1. any neighborhood I would actually consider living in or 2. a good-looking white woman.

Milwaukee is the western end of the Rust Belt but compared to Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo (and really, Chicago, too--fuck that town) it's the Paradigm Of Western Civilization.

People from the aforementioned cities can find the definition of "paradigm" at www.dictionary.com.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about Houston either.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 1:12 am

You're all wrong. It's Nashville. It's the worst...ever.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 1:16 am

Newark. Camden is a good guess. Paterson ain't too pretty either.

New Bedford?
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 1:21 am

most anyplace in wyoming sucks
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 1:54 am

I gotta go with Gary Indiana. Driving over that place on the skyway was depressing, even as a kid. Dallas or Houston for #2.

My own town, San Jose, is remarkably dull for its size. Nice climate though and lots of great, cheap, ethnic food.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 2:04 am

battle creek,MI! or cleveland
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 2:15 am

hands down.....Dallas

As someone that lives in "Big D" and hates it about 3/4 of the time I'd like to hear some reasons to back this up. Avoid the yuppies, Bush-lovers, and other fools and you can have a blast here but you have to know where to go...

I've lived in Oakland and SF for the past 9 years and I've only been down to San Jo maybe 5 times. Everytime I go to SJ, it seems just fine to me, even though everyone up here pooh-poohs it. My band played there earlier this month and it was probably the funnest show we've played in our very short career.

being from dallas, it's pretty bad but not the worst. i'm gonna go with Lincoln, Nebraska. the 15 hours i spent where the worst of my whole life. i wanted to puke on everyone that lived there. 2nd place: anywhere in New Mexico.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 3:19 am

East St Louis, Illinois
yeah babay, Tet68 had to flee from tree to tree when them losers chased me for my shoes and pants, that's asonabitch town for begging, but if you be rich artiste like Art Chantry you can bunker down Clarabell the clown talkin' shit to Howdy Doody..
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 4:19 am

fuck that man. new mexico is pretty sweet. it's beautiful, and sure all the people are real slow and there are a ton of junie hicks and turquois jewlery, but stuff's cheap, food's good, and that makes it better than a lot of other places.
dallas is so much worse. especially north dallas, where my mom liveds for years. it was all dry and i had to join some bullshit club to drink beer at a goddamn chili's.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 4:50 am

fo sho...new mexico has some cool route 66 stops
i love driving through there
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 4:53 am

New Bedford?

HEY! thats my old home! new bedford is pretty shitty though. i still loved it there. the old portugese population is great. the young fuckheads in the street are not.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 7:11 am

Battle Creek Mi sucks ass. Rontoul and Kankakee, Illinois..really stink.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 7:36 am

Bridgeport, CT. YES... Connecticut. One of the richest states in the country has the only US city of a population over 1 million to declare bankruptcy. Now an Indian tribe is trying to lay claim to the entire "downtown" area (boarded up/burnt down buildings) and The Donald wants to build a casino... or financially the Indians. I say GIVE EM THE CITY!

Oh yeah... birthplace of PT Barnum. Big whoop

Buffalo Creek, Missouri
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 3:31 pm

i know i'm biased by i've got to disagree with detroit being anywhere near the top of these lists. maybe if you're terrified of black people or the sight of some neighborhoods that have hit the skids ruins your whole day, but detroit has a ton of stuff that is cool. good music, great food (all the way from high class fine dining to great sausage), a couple of great sports teams, some really cool museums and galleries, Hart Plaza, new stadiums, Fox theatre . . .etc etc.

it does get too cold, and it's not as safe and wholesome as some place like Asheville, but it's not full of hippies either.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 5:16 pm

Palm Beach Flaradah
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 6:27 pm

Branson Missouri..!!! where Mickey Gilley can still get a gig and Ronnie Milsap.
Posted: Mar 25, 2006 6:32 pm

Pet Clark plays there too.
Posted: May 21, 2019 9:18 pm

Xenia is a fucking shithole, its about as fucking poor as trotwood, drug deals that people constantly get away with, dumb fucking crimes, corrupt police, shitty schools, crazy ass fucking people, old fuckfaces, wannabe gangsters, punkasses, fucking shit jobs, and so on. I could keep this list going if i wanted to. Its atleast top 50 on the fucking shittiest areas to live in America. I sadly live here
