Goner Message Board / ???? / band / artist you own the most albums by
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 9:48 pm

Neil Young takes the overall lead now with 14, with Billy Childish-bands following close behind at 13. At one time or another I had 11 or 12 Screeching Weasel albums, which has been paired down to 9. I have 10 Stones albums. Don't know if I've got more than 10 by too many others, though.

Mick Collins-related projects for me. If we're talking mp3s... I dunno, I've got the complete discogs of the Stones, Kinks, etc. etc.

But, yeah, as far as physical product, Mick Collins, Billy Childish, Stones...
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 9:59 pm

I own all of the Ramones' albums.
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 10:04 pm

Elvis Costello, too... and the Velvet Underground, Ramones, Misfits, Johnny Thunders-related...

mp3s make it so easy to fill the holes in one's records collection. I think if I didn't know me, and looked through my iTunes library, I'd think I was into some not so hot shit... With bitTorrent, you can get whole artist discographies in no-time.

john coltrane - over 30
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 10:13 pm

2nd is Ornette Coleman w/ 25 or more...

Counted this much in "C"'s in Jazz section, but I have lots of records out of order in stacks elsewhere...

14 Stones LPs
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 10:46 pm

I have all of Scared of Chaka's releases--LPs, cds, 7" and 10" records. 18 or so altogether. Yanul fuckin' Hernandez was one of the great late 90s, early 00s front men. Shame they broke up when they did.
Posted: Feb 25, 2006 10:51 pm

I thinkJon Spencer related stuff.
Thre's alot of Zep records too, but it seems you goners don't like that very much. Me thinks the first two albums are great, the stio recordings go downhill aftrethat, true.

What time are you guys living now? Ain't it beer time? Me, Dutchman, is already back from my night out. I'm saving my best (and money) for all the shows coming up next month.

22 zappa albums
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 1:37 am

I used to have about 50 Billy Childish records and almost 30 Beastie Boys records. I might actualy have more Neil Hefti records than any other artist right now.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 1:51 am

the Clash.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 2:25 am

Jonathan Richman (solo and w/Modern Lovers)
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 3:51 am

Doug Sahm,Stones,Kinks. Funny when you think about how many records 60's pop bands would make in a year. 2 or 3 sometimes. Crazy. Makes me feel lazy.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 5:38 am

james brown (& related band members - bootsy, maceo, etc) - easy. then maybe john lee hooker. aretha franklin. johnny cash. a lot of/all sonic youth but only to the mid-90s.

personally, i think it's merle haggard. i will buy a cheap merle haggard record no matter what.

if you count the store, then i think it's ted taylor. we can't stop buying ted taylor records! no one wants to buy 'em, but i think he's our patron saint or something. WE LOVE TED TAYLOR!

Stones - 30 or so?
Cool Jerks
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 9:47 am

I have every Tom Waits album. I'm not sure how many that is, but its definitely the most. Second would be the Rolling Stones.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 10:49 am

Captain Beefheart, Pere Ubu and The Fall (albums)

'68 Comeback (7-inches)
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 1:38 pm

I used to have lots of Cramps stuff but I got rid of most of the bootlegs I had - I only kept few that had a) great recordings or b) suberb sleeve.
I have quite a few Cap Beefheart records too. And yeah, nine double albums of Hank Williams. I try to pick up only the best stuff certain band/artist made - I have no need to have shitty records just for the sake of completing my collection.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 2:09 pm

Stones by far, especially if you include Keith and Ronnie's records. And they spill into the next box full of Small Faces and Humble Pie and Ronnie Lane...Single artist? Probably James Brown. I just counted 39, mostly originals. I might have that many Charlie Rich records though.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 3:41 pm

I used to have over 20 Enoch Light records. Now that's gay. But I did have 13 Perez Prado records!
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 6:58 pm

Probably the Birthday Party/Nick Cave
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 6:59 pm

DWARVES!
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 7:27 pm

Just under 60 by Zappa.
Posted: Feb 26, 2006 8:16 pm

At least 50 Neil Young, lotsa bootlegs.

40 or so Stones, boots, lotsa same records in mono/stereo.

About 30 Byrds, with all the Sundazed rarities.

Oddly I have about 20 Flamin Groovies records, all these 80's Euro boots of 70's studio sessions.

There's a douchebag Beatles collector that comes into Academy with over 1,000 Beatles LP's. He doesn't have a record player. I also know a guy with 200 Runaways records. What a fucked up world.

Definitely Billy Childish. I've got about 70 singles that he appears on, and I would guess 40 or 50 albums.
Posted: Feb 27, 2006 2:44 pm

Third place tie at 4 albums/cd's = Etta James, Louis PRima, The Vacant Lot, DMZ/Lyres, the Muffs, Blondie, Hank Williams, Jonny Cash, Stiff LIttle Fingers, the dirtbombs... (there's more, I'm sure, but that's all I can think of right now.)

I have exactly 50% of all 45's released by The Dinks.
Posted: Feb 27, 2006 6:01 pm

I wish! I *heart* the Dinks!
Posted: Feb 27, 2006 6:18 pm

stones and dylan, easily if you're talking about just records and cds. but hell, even if you add in mp3's, the stones would probably take all.

zztop
Posted: Feb 28, 2006 2:26 am

I have most stuff by DMZ/Lyres
Just about everything by Chilton and Big Star
Lots of Skatalites in various incarnations
Lots of Sun Ra
Lots of Dylan

But I'm not a completist about anyone. The Chilton collection probably comes closest.

And Eric, if you've still got some Ted Taylor on vinyl when I'm in town for the Stomp, I'd love to own a vinyl copy of Ramblin' Rose.
Posted: Feb 28, 2006 7:01 pm

Not a record breaker, That would go to either The Rolling Stones or DEVO, but I've noticed that I've managed to accumulate alot of Reigning Sound records this last year or so.
Posted: Feb 28, 2006 8:13 pm

1 Tom Waits
2 B. Childish-related
3 Costello
4 Sonic Youth

Weird : I haven't listened to any of those records in a long time...
Posted: Feb 28, 2006 8:22 pm

Forgot about the J Reatard-related shit

Posted: Mar 6, 2006 5:28 pm

personally, i think it's merle haggard.
in the phone book he'd be: Haggard, Merle

its mostly Billy Childish, Beach Boys, ELP,YES, Jethro Tull, Foghat, AC/DC..my collection is only 35% cool....????
Posted: Mar 6, 2006 5:35 pm

my age shows -
i have all the vinyl records released in the USA by the beatles, stones, kinks - plus some british ones as well - and considering how prolific bands were in the 60s, they outnumber everyone else i have in my collection except bob dylan, whose entire catalog (including reissues and box sets) i own plus a million bootlegs.

probably next is beach boys and johnny cash

everyone else just hasn't been around long enough for me to amass a quantity compared to the old geezers
Posted: Mar 6, 2006 7:44 pm

I have all of Scared of Chaka's releases--LPs, cds, 7" and 10" records. 18 or so altogether. Yanul fuckin' Hernandez was one of the great late 90s, early 00s front men. Shame they broke up when they did.

And how. Great band.

As for what bands I own the most records by, it's probably a toss up between Ramones and Buzzcocks.
Posted: Mar 6, 2006 8:57 pm

And how. Great band.

Someone should get 'em to reunite for the upcoming Blackout, with Dameon on bass and Ron on drums. Aaaiiee-yiiieee-yiiieee-yiiieee-yiiii!!!
