Goner Message Board / ???? / How do I listen to stuff on this site?
Posted: Feb 10, 2006 6:24 pm

OK so I found this site thru Agony Shorthand and can't figure out how to listen to these songs w/o becoming a premier member of some dutch file sharing corporation. Yes I'm dumb, but can someone tell me how to to stream this stuff? I can't open a stream w/ the address in i-tunes or windows player - and if you follow the links you only have the option to download - which I don't want to do and it doensnt' give me an option to do b/c I'm at work or something. It's all very confusing. I want to hear some friggin psych, dammit.

any help appreciated!

zac,

First, you have to download the files from rapidshare.de. The links will take you to a page with this table that is trying to sell you a premium membership or a free one. Ignore and scroll to bottom. Click on the 'Free' button. You will be redirected to another page that says you can download in X minutes/seconds. You have to wait/refresh until it's done counting down (just a note: the first wait time of the day will be less than a minute; subsequent download waits will be something like 40 minutes). Click on the link once the countdown is over and your download will begin. This particular blogger seems to have posted most of their music in a .rar file (with password - see bottom of blog for password). A .rar file is just another form of file compression, like a .zip file. You will need a program that can decompress it (like WinRAR). Check out the other bloggers in the links for some other music - I found a ton of stuff without passwords/.rar files that I liked better.

All the related bloggers post albums, etc to rapidshare for download. I got a bunch of stuff the other day but had to wait, like I said, about 40 minutes between downloads. Some of it was worth it, like this one

a premier member of some dutch file sharing corporation.

It's a German file sharing corporation.
The country domain extension for the Netherlands is "nl".

"The word Dutch comes from the old Germanic word theodisk, meaning 'of the people', 'vernacular' as opposed to official, i.e. Latin or later French. Theodisk in modern German has become deutsch and in Dutch has become the two forms: duits, meaning German, and diets meaning something closer to Dutch but no longer in general use."

Deutsch is German for German.
Hence the confusion, they shouldn't have called us Dutch!

April, you have to extract all the files that are compressed inside the .RAR file, not attempt to play it by itself. A .RAR file is like a .ZIP file, which is just one collection of compressed files. You would need some software to decompress it, such as WinRAR. (shareware version is available). I'm actually surprised that itunes could do anything with it.

Here's what you would do:

1. Install WinRAR/etc.
2. Download .rar file
3. Double-click on it (or open it with WinRAR)
4. Select 'Extract To' from menu
5. Voila! all files will be extracted to where ever you chose and a small demon will be released that erases all your music, porn, resumes and thesis. Have fun.
