I was wondering what the A.R.E. stands for in that A.R.E. Weapons band? My guess is "ANGRY REDNECK ELECTRONICA." They were very nice guys but, that had to of been the worst act I've ever seen in the Hi-Tone. That's saying a lot! Was that some kind of Kid Rock meets Nine Inch Nails? I was also told they play to sell out crowds in N.Y. I have a drum machine, now i just need to grow my hair out and get a jersy with gold chains. N.Y. hear I come! Trans Am was fucking good as usual.

Where were you Sherman? That would have been good inspiration.

They play a lot of Fashion parties in NY and are just a band that people go see "to be seen." The bass player is Chloe Sevigny's boyfriend and the keyboard player (?), Paul, is her brother. It's just a bad NY band with a lot of hype.

well, "A.R.E." stands for "Attitude Raw Energy".

and just in case no one knows who you're talking about..

A.R.E. Weapons are three New York City dirtbags who date models, live on couches & hang out at swanky fashion parties so they can drink all the free beer.

They probably only live on couches in order to immulate the real life homeless days of their heroes, Suicide. Rough Trade v. 00's is doing a bang-up job with that crystal ball that can see into the cutout bins of 2008.

They look like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club!

Hey do you guys like Trans Am? I got drunk with them when they toured with the Oxes and another time when I think they were touring with The Fucking Champs...when they were still just the Champs.

Out of ever band I just mentioned..The F-in Champs are the only ones who don't suck.

That 80's metal redneck look is totally the in thing...and has been for like 3 years now....

The Tight Bros from Wayback When (who rock) dress like that and actually sound just like AC/DC...but one of the gay(literaly) dudes from Karp (another band that rocks) is in that band....but with the art-damaged techno set too..that whole sweat band, tanktop look is all the rage....I can't describe how much happiness seeing these art-students wearing florecents ripped up tank tops and cut up jeans...I can't describe how much joy that brings to my life.

My favorite part of their set was when brendan called them "gay" r.e weapons.

man! wish i was there for the parties that spawned those pictures. have they been featured in Vice magazine yet cuz my shrink says i really shouldn't buy their cd 'til they are. !!!

scumpuke, I hope you're being facetious.. they are the darlings of Vice Mag.

What on earth is Scumbag #1 in the photo above going to do with that fancy jumprope???

Also, what was the general Memphis reaction to a NYC coke party casualty band like they be?

one of the ARE Weapons guys punched Sean Lennon for bumping into him at some party.
raw dawg shit.

fierydrunk, I think that's a mic cord.

and yeah, decadentjew, Brain (the one with the cord) was in some club and sean lennon knocked his baseball cap off and they started fighting (or, well, brain beat him up).
Regardless of their music though, yeah, they're nice guys and I ended up hanging out with them a bunch when I was living up there.. they're not that bad, but I avoided their shows cause of the crowds.

Nice guys or no, they look like total shit--terrible fashion. That mic cord is easily mistaken for an '80's style jumprope...which would not surprise me as an accoutrement of a fashion band like these jokers.

Actually, I'd love to see a band jumprope on stage...they should give it a shot.

These guys actually look like native Memphians more so than N.Y. cokeheads. Thier performance would be gladly accepted at Stage-Stop in Raleigh.
Posted: Oct 8, 2003 12:39 am
Yeah, the middle photo is pure Stage Stop circa 1989. However, in reality, they'd get their asses kicked & fast posing so blatantly out there...and the reality of the beast that is A.R.E. Weapons is clearly spelled out in the Haute Williamsburg attire and 'do's of the first big photo.

andrew w.k. should kick those guys in the collective dick.

i've never seen those dudes before until now, but i've heard that name and how hip they are. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT'S 'HIP'!!!they look like any ol' outskirts-of-town meth heads. just give them bmx bikes and plant them in front of a 7-11! i wonder if the guy that hangs out in front of the 7-11 down the street from me is a hipster?

I want the 30 minutes of my life it took to watch this band back.
