Any information on the BBQ KK show west coast tour?
Posted: Oct 4, 2005 8:17 pm

anyone got a contact for Oberlin College?

It's kinda hard to get shows there, esp. for punk and garage shit. Plus, they are difficult to contact. A better bet would be Akron. There's The Lime Spider (www.thelimespider.com) or I might possibly be able to hook a house show up. That would also be a shorter drive from Columbus to Akron to Athens, which any way you slice it is some driving, but would be less than Oberlin. They do have house shows in Oberlin, just don't have any contact info for anyone.

Dammit. Don't know what to do-doo. Would LOVE to come to NYC, BJ! But not enough bang for the buck, sugar-bear. Maybe if I go anywhere, it may be Cleveland. Damn you, Katrina!

sherry, i'll be at that one too besides the fest shows - you should come to cleveland though to see if me and ryan redeem our 'barrel of monkeys' status. plus i cant bring an exotic b-day cake to the sub-t show, that's billiams birthday, and that would just lead to confusion!

You'll be able to make it in plenty of time. Probably won't start til atleast 10 and there's a couple noise groups first. Hell, I might very well need a ride if you're goin down.

I love reading this:

Now, I could tell you about Mark Sultan, I mean, BBQ's past in bands like Les Sexareenos or The Spaceshits, and that his new album will be out soon on Bomp. I could tell you about King Khan's pseudo-celebrity in Europe, or his past in The Spaceshits, or how his band's new album is a split with The Dirtbombs. But you probably wouldn't give a shit. These names and facts probably mean nothing to you. Let's talk about the real nitty gritty - The King Khan & BBQ Show. First, I must say that these guys are fuckin blood brothers, man. Real tight. They played all over the place before in an aforementioned band outta Montreal. And they're the best of friends to this day. When King Khan (then 'Blacksnake') decided to stay in the land of kraut and honey, they always maintained that they would soon lay waste to this miserable world. And so they began in 2002. BBQ visiting my man King Khan, and jamming in his Nazi-bunker rehearsal space. The black magick remained intact. Songs flowed endlessly like blood from a cancerous abcess. They took it easy, honing their craft, playing sporadically around Germany and Spain to crowds outraged by their incredible sound and nasty live show. Orgiastic, anarchic, hypnotic and personal are the shows to this day. I've seen the blow-jobs and blood, the pick-ups and puke, the dancing and the laughing. Two guys. One smashing snare, bass drum and tambourine with his bare feet, molesting his guitar and singing like a possessed angel. The other spinning and howling like a freak while belting it out on his guitar like a real gone savage. What does it all sound like? It sounds like five men. People throw the typical suspects into their descriptions as a defense against the real sound: The Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators, Black Flag, The Falcons, Sam Cooke, The Users, The Sonics, The Cramps, Bo, Jerry Lee, The Gonn... Their sound is all of this and more, but all of their own. The show? A mess. Love songs, punkers, improvised riot-starters, dance-floor shakers, sing-along stompers, wild rockers - you name it. They always drench the crowd in raw energy, and they're always the last ones dancing and drinking at the bar. The LP/CD will be out in March on Hazelwood Records in Europe and in January/February on Goner Records in the US. It was recorded by DM Bob in Hamburg. A single on Italy's 'Solid Sex Lovie Doll Records' will precurse the disaster. The 'real rock n roll' monicker has been used and abused, yes, but I can't think of any better way to describe this party. - Allen Ginseng

Tom. Everyone knows you booked this tour and I, personally, THANK YOU for your hard work!! It looks as though everything's just happened pretty fast, just doing what's necessary asap with several [wonderful] people doin their [important] little part to make this happen.

Now. Because Goners rule all over the fucking place. BBQ is/was en route to Memphis via the Goner Underground Railroad [funny, but true]. I'm guessing he should be there this morning/now some time and be able to play [one helleva-fucking] show tonight and probably the whole tour! AND only missing the first show of tour!! Take that jar-heads!!

I'm sure this is as much as you already know, but everything's fine and this is a time of celebration!! Go Goners!

God speed BBQ!!
Prepare for DOCKING!!
See ya in Cleveland!!

happy fucking birthday sherry! death cult rolled into green bay and the cops came in after the opening band and arrested the bartender (who had 4 warrants!!) and shut down the bar. Mystery Girls saved the day by moving the show to the old ____ house. death cult in the basement never sounded so good. we got back at 4am and i was at work by 6:45. I've never had so much fun in Green Bay. this weekend is gonna be a doozy.

DTrain's message is ALMOST indecipherable.

However, BJ, I'm going to Cleveland for KK/BBQ & Black Lips.
Wished it wasn't so far to the Penetration party cause I would be in HEAVEN if I could see this tour more than once AND see all you kids! Mapquest says its almost eight hours away -- but no way to get there anyways. :-(
Posted: Nov 7, 2005 7:00 pm

Oi, Kevin, I forgot all about that... I can't decide if that was better or worse than telling someone I was a wet nurse Saturday at 10 am (when Norah and I were still drunk).
Posted: Nov 7, 2005 7:14 pm

Oi, Kevin.

I dont' even KNOW YOU ANYMORE Liser!

I still have a Rod The Bod hangover. Everytime I blow my nose, it feels like when you are swimming and you get water up your nose. Unpleasant.
Posted: Nov 7, 2005 7:27 pm

King Khan & BBQ tore it the fuck up in K-Zoo...the black lips have some pretty severe B.O. front row during their set was like smelling hot garbage.
Posted: Nov 7, 2005 7:30 pm

Oi, Kevin.

did i miss a bat mitzvah or two on saturday? i slept until 4:30 saturday and woke up feeling like a crisp $10 bill.

Lisa and I had a craft fair thing to do the next day and I showed up still drunk. And telling everyone that I was still drunk.
Posted: Nov 7, 2005 8:01 pm

was it that trunk show at pulaski park?

when i got my morning (er, afternoon) coffee at ballou the lady behind the counter asked me how i was doing. i was scratching my head and pulled a cigarette butt out of my hair. that pretty much summed up how i was doing.

They're playing the following shows in the Bay Area:

11/19: 924 Gilman (Berkeley)- with Harold Ray Live In Concert, Riff Randalls, Mothballs, and Special Ed

A while ago, I read somewhere that they're playing a 3rd Bay Area gig at some place called The Knockout in SF, but I have no info on that show.

Mark/BBQ, there ARE some tentative dates on this very thread about 3/4 up the page on Oct. 6. They were posted by you, by the way. I just posted the SF Area dates that I know are happening, along with all of the opening acts.

Can't wait to see you guys. I'll be at those 2 shows for sure!

Hi,it's been a while. Here's some updated info for the Northwest:

NOV. 23rd:PORTLAND @ Tonic Lounge (moved from Slabtown, unfortunately) w/ the mighty SLiP iTS and the new PURE COUNTRY GOLD

NOV. 24TH:SEATTLE @ Funhouse w/ THE SILVERKINGS and KAVE INS (ex-FLYING DUTCHMEN)

On a more personal note, there won't be and never was a Joe Pestilence scheduled to play the Funhouse show. Joe Silverking One Man Gang was originally booked but now it's going to be the whole band, back from suspended animation from the 90s for one night only!

Joe S. is different than JoeP.,they might be the same person physically but they're entirely different performers. Yes, i know how pretentious that sounds. Whatever,it's the worst secret identity this side of Clark Kent! Carry on.
Posted: Nov 11, 2005 8:48 pm | Edited by: levon

sorry Joe. I wanna try and make it down to the Seattle show.
Posted: Nov 11, 2005 9:02 pm

'Scool, levon! :) Don't sweat it. See ya there!
Posted: Nov 11, 2005 9:20 pm

Thanks to this info I almost have our tour log ready. Of course I still need to know where to pick the guys up...
Is the 15th confirmed? The show isn't on the calendar.
Anyone know who the show is with at the Knockout (20th)?
Any word on the 23rd? Eugene?
Any word on the 26th? Seattle?
27th?
Posted: Nov 11, 2005 9:22 pm

hey fag- I think vancouver is the last show.

that fawking ROCKS!

and the KAVE-INS is jesse (fefifofums/dutchmen), donnie (statics/bug nasties) and ian (invisible eyes) are a hoot.
they played my honeymoon benefit show and were really fun, dressed up in cave man/flintstones robes!
also, there might be one more band added, maybe not.

and hey, i thought 11/23 was in tacoma at the java jive????

they fucking destroyed boston last night. that was awesome the way that happened.
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 12:50 pm

hoboken was destroyed as well last night! I wish I could have gone to Friday's show too...
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 3:39 pm

Believe me, you didn't miss shit on Friday.
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 6:50 pm

Didn't miss shit??? harsh words buddy...

I think Sunday was the better of 2 shows, but Friday sure as hell DID NOT suck...

I'm very happy to see one of my favorite bands, Black Lips, get to this level now - they were one of the first bands I ever booked a gig for and they have now become one of thee best rocknroll bands going...they were always a favorite, but their songwriting and playing is at its peak!

I just love em

oh and the Slovenly singles are very cool!
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 6:56 pm

My expectations are always just way too high. I aint goin' to no shows ever again unless they're in a packed hot basement with strobe lights and l.s.d.

Black Lips were really good, but the other guys I guess just weren't feelin' it.
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 8:25 pm

What "other guys?" I saw the 'Lips in a basement minutes after huffing hash off a spoon, and I'm telling you, it was "special." I also saw them (fairly) sober a couple nights later at a "rock club," and it was just as good. Next time take some pills and bash your face with a wiffle bat or something.
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 9:07 pm

they played one of the bigger clubs here too (holds like 300 dudes or so). it was packed and everyone was dancing like retards (myself included), which fucking NEVER happens here. that was easily the best black lips set i've seen. ditto for kk+bbq, but i've only seen them one other time so i dunno how much weight that holds.

and yeah, the new black lips lp is beginning to end killer.
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 9:34 pm

I'm sorry, Joe. We had 'em in a tiny venue in Columbus (holds like 80 people or something) and nobody came out. It was a Monday, but it was bad (not the show, the crowd!). I vowed to leave this damn town after that. We didn't even get KK to wear a dress!
Posted: Nov 14, 2005 11:15 pm

i thought fridays show was great. the place was packed. lots of dancing. i thought the new black lips songs were awesome. and the LP actually IS their best yet, i love it.
king khan and BBQ had some tuning issues, but were still really fun. i brought a friend who had never heard of either band and she LOVED kk/BBQ. and the kids in the font were hyped up about it. awesome to see. i couldn't have asked for a better time. good tunes on the PA, too.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 1:03 am

RE: tomorrow in LA.... my friend "just called the place and they said tomorrow was open mic night"

anyone know what the fuck is going on with that?
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 1:43 am

they, up until a week ago, were under the impression they had a show booked at the scene in LA on tuesday. do to some miscommunication, the show was never actually booked and someone else is playing and they can't sneak in on the bill. so some scrambling to find them a show occured, and they are playing at MISTER T.'s on tuesday at a last minute show, on their open mic night. the country teasers recently played the same thing, at the same venue/night and it went great.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 2:03 am

so they're playing an open mic. that is perfect... they should refuse to leave the stage and play for 2 hours. just my 2 cents, i won't be there anyways.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 2:16 am

yeah, those kids in the front row at friday's show were totally awesome! they couldn't have been more then 14.
Posted: Nov 15, 2005 3:19 am

I had such a good time seeing KK/BBQ on Thursday in Cleveland. I don't recall too much of the black lips set because i was pretty gone by then. but i do recall falling over and having people pick me up a lot. And Steve Beat grabbing the mic and yelling "Here we go Steelers"

Does TT's hold that many? I guess it would; it is pretty big if you count the bar side. It was a really great show; I did have to get out of the line of fire when King Khan and Joe Tampoff came careening into me and nearly crushed me (anyone who knows Joe can see how this is possible).

Has anyone mentioned that the Konks were great as well? Okay, I will. The Konks were fucking great.

pretty sure. it's definitely bigger than the middle east's upstairs room, and that holds about 200.

and sorry about that andrea. i had the dancing shoes on. those were drunk too. that khan... he defies gravity like a champ.
