Goner Message Board / Upcoming Shows For Goners Everywhere / Help with Jackie & Cedrics Tour???

all right, here's what the boys are doing... i'm assuming the LA & SF shows are being set up by some west coasters, so if anyone has any ideas on the TN/MS/LA/TX action, please let me know!
Especially Texas dates- any help appreciated.

jackie & the cedrics have ranged from goofy to frantic to all-out raging... but they've never been less than entertaining. Yeah, it's mostly instrumental surf-ish stuff... they dress up, they put on a show. the last time i saw them (with KING LOUIE in the back of the Arcade) was one of the best shows i've ever seen... they brought along a ringer keyboard player who mostly bounced off the walls the whole time... wild. they're touring with HOWLIN' HACHIMA, another Japanese band, unfortunately i'm not familiar with 'em, but check out their site for some great lyrics (especially "It's All Right"- great whiskey hangover song-

"I fall completely,
Why am I the Blues?
My dynamite not explode
I look at only bad dreams.
mm, 'cause my Stomack ache."

Yeah! http://www.howlinhachima.com

let me know if anyone has any tips-... thanks-

oh yeah, skinny Enocky (cedrics guitarist) can eat more than just about anyone i've ever seen.

Yeah, the tour eith the keyboard player a while back was completely out of hand. Saw them last year and they were a bit...subdued.

I'll try the Circle Bar for N.O. That Cedrics/Louie show in Memphis (1999?) was a good one. Banzai Hot Dog!

Now this is a show I'd like to go too...and any jap rock even, even shonen knife, or supersnazz...sadly it's not coming to my town...I wish I could see Mad 5.

oh yeah, any doubters, ask those denton REDS boys about the Jackie & Cedrics frat house show... legendary!
Posted: Sep 17, 2003 5:50 pm
it seems like 5-6 years ago, the japanese bands seemed to make it over to to the US (particularly nyc) all the time... supersnazz, the 5678's, and guitar wolf all played nyc every 6 months or so. saw teengenerate a couple of times, even the registrators played a nyc show or two. most of these bands are still together but haven't played the US in years (well guitar wolf did that one tour)... anyone know what the deal is? is it just a money thing and it's too tough to make it over here? would love to see firestarter hit the US...

Mad 3.

I'm no expert, but I just think that alot of stuff has changed since the 90's and it's harder for them to make it over.

Jet Boys.
Posted: Sep 17, 2003 11:20 pm
Mod and powerpop is what the Japs are all about nowadays. And even some of the thrash bands are starting to wear skinny ties.
Chris Alienator
Posted: Sep 17, 2003 11:51 pm
Ya, but there brand of Mod, Powerpop, and Emo, is pretty fucking good....like I have an album by this one band, I can't remember there name, but it's called, "Just Before She Undressed" and it's cool as shit....I'd go see any of those bands too.
Chris Alienator
Posted: Sep 17, 2003 11:53 pm
and actually that last Registrators double album was there best shit yet, I guess it came out like 3 years ago now....but they've gone all New Wave and shit it's fucking awesome.

Maybe it was the death of Tim Yo and the later directions of MRR that changed it but it definately seemed like in the mid to late 90s every Japanese band big and small was coming stateside and doing at least a west coast tour. Not that I got to see any of it but that's what it felt like was happening. Also, it doesn't seem like any of the newer bands have gone to the next level in popularity like Teengenerate, Guitar Wolf or the Registrators. I think the Have-Not's can hold their own with just about anyone, not many others appear to care. Hard to belive Firestarter haven't released anything outside of Japan when back in the day a new Teengenerate single came out every month from labels on virtually every continent.
Chris Alienator
Posted: Sep 18, 2003 1:42 am
Do you realy think MRR played that much of a role? I guess it did for me....but I just think that it's getting harder and harder to spark interest in underground subversive music....I mean underground culture's just moved in totally different direction.....Melt Bannana can still tour...did you ever read that article with teengenerate where they said they hated Meltbannana, cuz "that shit's too art, we're not fags".....
Chris Alienator
Posted: Sep 18, 2003 1:45 am
I mean Garage is a big trend right now, and most of the jap band's can't get a tour going...it just goes to show what a crock of shit it is...and yet there's a cute girl into catpower in one of my classes, who doesn't wash her hair or shave her legs...fucking nasty.
kevin e
Posted: Sep 18, 2003 7:55 am
It's probably the semi-decline of the entire West Coast scene. MRR, Estrus, Rip Off, Purple Onion, Garage Shock either don't exist anymore or aren't what they used to be. Now the best trash in the US is going on in the midwest and midsouth which geographically makes it harder to book an economic tour and flights probably aren't as cheap. A band used to be able to fly to Seattle, play down the coast and leave.
Posted: Sep 18, 2003 8:57 am
Woo Hoo! Go Midwest!
Chris Alienator
Posted: Sep 18, 2003 8:54 pm
If that's true about the Midwest, then bands should start off in Wisconsin and tour all the way down to Texas, Louisiana.....but I don't know if that's realy the case...lots of people think that youth culture and any kind of cultural subversion is a pattern, or dialectic, the underground will rise up, influence the greater culture, then become corrupt....and it's up to the people who remember the good ole days to try and recreate it again.....that goes for all kinds of cultural movements, like society under a dictator and shit I mean politics.....I think stuff like that is kind of a crock of shit thow....true to an extent, but there's a million other factors/theories playing into it.

That first MXT album is pretty fucking good still, Time For Your Medicine is a great raunch rocker...those were the good ole days....it's wasn't realy poppy either.

kevin e is 100% right. although we still get a lot of japanese bands here in sf because mike lucas, russel quan and greg lowery bring them over. They'll fly over and play 5 shows in town and maybe a couple in LA or Portland or something but seems like it's mostly a vacation. Then you'll never hear from them again.

Then again, it is sort of a "more of the same" deal too. Saw a band with the zodiac killers a few weeks ago (can't even remember the name) that 7 years ago would blown me away, but at this point didn't add much to the formula.

i imagine the reason they don't fly to Wiscosin is there aren't flights there from japan, they know people here, and often the people who bring them here speak japanese (at least a little)

i've been on hold with earthlink for 28 minutes, fuckin assholes.

My old man just came back from Japan with only one layover in Hawaii, and on the way there Canada.

I think it's just because it's a pain in the ass to come to America...If I was a foriegner I'd never come here....and I'm doing my dambdest to get out of the country....I mean it hasn't taken other countrys very long to figure out that we're not the cultural mecca we were 50 years ago...and that they know shitloads more about good music than the kids do here.

Posted: Sep 19, 2003 12:21 am
They can play the Circle Bar if it is on Nov. 11, not 12. Eric?
Posted: Sep 19, 2003 2:19 am
Anybody know where the LA show will be? I'll be there that weekend cause I have to see Iggy & the Stooges.

Eric you could try Emo's in Austin.

Right down the street from Beerland and it's not 21+ like Beerland is (if that matters). They had some good shows when I was livin' there, it seems like an okay place.

Eric, as for San Antonio..

try this place http://www.sin13.com/
they have a lot of shows.. they seem to vary quite a bit, but it might be an alright place.

there's also http://www.sawhiterabbit.com/
but the upcoming show list seems pretty frightening.

and lastly..
Patsy's Ice House, 26002 N. Flores
San Antonio, TX 78204
Phone: (210) 733-3815 (no web site)

good luck.

Jackie and the Cedrics "Go Honda Go" b/w "Velocity Stacks"

Boring boring boring purist crap. I'm really tired of this whole garage thing and how any record with an old style cover that has some wacky kinda '60 square thing to say on the back is supposed to be cool. I've read in many magazines how cool these guys are and how much they rock, but this single definately proves that's a fucking lie. And if everything's so expensive in Japan, how can the guy on the front cover afford that Danelectro bass? Well, I'll tell you why - all the Japanese fuckers are buying up all our shit and I think he's part of the conspiracy. The back of the single says when you hear this it's like taking a road trip to Actionville. Bullshit! Motherfuckin' Japanese crapola crap shit, eat my shit nippers. This record sucks. Fuck You.

Chris Alienator
Posted: Oct 6, 2003 10:51 pm
I haven't heard that record...but they've been around for ever....and if you haven't noticed pretty much all the Japanese bands play nice instruments...

Most of the japs buying up all the 57 strats are old guy collectors...but they don't have the same import, copyright laws in japan as they do here...so you can get all kind of great tokai and Ibanez and all kinds of good knock offs for reasonable...but besides that, you can get good mainstream guitars for relative affordable rates because the market is just different and crap.....check out that guys Gretsch in the Mad 3...

Chris Alienator
Posted: Oct 6, 2003 10:52 pm
And I didn't even name the cheap knock off guitars brands that I like!...that are abundant in japland.
Posted: Oct 7, 2003 12:19 am
yeah yeah, I wrote that quite a few years back. But then I saw em live quite a few times and they've always blown me away. so, like many times before, I'll have to eat my words on that one. Also quit using my name fucker! I talk enough shit to keep me in trouble as it is. I don't need your help.
Also, Eric I didn't think they needed a San Antonio show. I got A guy that can book them at this artspace kinda place. That sin 13 place is a fucking shithole and tacoland is booked up. it might be to late but let me know and I'll see what I can do
