If Scott or T-bot are reading this, do you have any objections to the Carbonas jumping on your show at the Circle Bar Friday night?

I gotta ask Kelly if it's alright too.

Scott

I don't mind, but you know Kelly. So was very hesitant about 2 bands playing. If it's ok with her it's ok with me.

Kelly just called here and she said that if the Jenny Jeans don't mind, she doesn't. She also put in a request to Eric for a copy of "Popular Favorites" to put on the jukebox at the circle. Laytah

Hi folks,a little late on this'un...

I thought this was the Chicken In A Box that was in Tastee Donuts in Gentilly! I used to live near there and would eat their chikkin often, but is this a new company?

I love The Chicken Wars article in the news link section-only in NOLA could this happen!Makes me nostalgic...*sniff sniff*!!!!

When i was a smaller garbage disposal,my mom ran a chicken restaurant in Pascagoula with the same name! When i moved to Gulfport some employees tried to run it(back in Goula) but it didn't last long. I'm SERIOUS! Wouldn't tell a lie to my fellow Goners, yaknow!!!

And yes Scott,i think Alienater cribbed that line from A Midsummer's Night Dream (or was that Dude,Where's My Car?)

Isn't that just from The Simpsons?
Chris Alienator

Yeah, from the Simpsons where Montgomery Burns captures the Lockness monster to try and make friends....then he comes to the conclusion that being a heartless miser is what realy makes him happy....that's realy a funny episode and doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Was Midsummers Night Dream Shakespeare or Poe?

..man that SIMPSONS last night was awful; the only real laugh i got was when the postman wants to read the TWILIGHT ZONE magazine,BUT HIS GLASSES ARE BROKEN!!!(and i thought i was the only one who remembered the twilight zone mag.;it was a slightly brainier FANGORIA...)
I already posted about this, but the Chicken Box will pay for your wedding if you buy a 1000 pieces of chicken!! Man, if I wasn't such a misogynist, i'd take them up on it!!

BTW, i ain't really a misogynist, but helen says i am one, and i dont wanna let her down...
Chris Alienator

Didn't H.L. Mencken also say that "no one ever went broke underestimating intelligence"? I heard it on Larry King Live.

You probbably are a misogynist by todays standards...fuck it....The Devil Dogs were one of the most misogynistic bands ever...and now Andy G concentrates on sugar pop....granted The Roller Kings are my favorite spin off band....but I kind of feel let down that he's still not waving the mysogyny flag! I mean your supposed to become worst a misogonist the older you get! Even when you mellow with your kids.

At least that's what I think, and if I have a say by golly, it'll be the next indie trend!!!

Chris Alienator

Some people think I'm a misogynist because I once hit a girl.....but she was pulling my hair from behind, and I didn't know if it was her or her boyfriend...so I swung based on equal rights.....I'm a feminist.....men and women get equal treatment in my book!

That's a little harsh....lets change the topic back to hot dogs.

1007 Washington Street is where I spent my childhood (just down from Trent Lott's pad). My grandmother (Gulley) lives there now though. I went down a month ago - spent the night on Petit Bois.
You'll have to fill me in when I go back at Xmas on where to go. The Yacht Club with the grandmother is only fun for so long.....

Hey Human Garbage Disposal,
When you lived in Gulfport, did you ever take any piano lessons?
The reason why I ask is that my grandmother used to teach piano to a ton of kids.
She lived on Mockingbird Lane.
Her name was Lois McAlister.
She used to play all the yachtclubs on the coast, as well as the Broadwater Hotel.

I wound up on 2906 Washington Ave,right by this big park where all the Rocker Kids got drunk on weekends... i could hear 'em late at night as i tried to sleep! It was also pretty bitchin' to go to the beach and on one side of the horizon see oil torches and on the other see big cranes and Nuclear subs! I never realized Trent Lott lived on that same street, no wonder i'm being followed by the government, hahaha!

I lived in Pascagoula from birth till 14,when my family moved to Gulfport to be closer to my Dad's job (and his relatives),so any info on what to do there is probably out of date. Then again, getting drunk is timeless,so is going to either Biloxi/Gulfport,Mobile/PCola or NO for a more "Big City" experience,so if you have a car you know the drill...

Actually,i share an affection for the Goula that borders on unreasonable!Apart from the knucklehead locals,i really dug the industrial bent of the town's aesthetic (Shipyard,Oil Refinery,Paper Mill,Cat Food Factory)mixed with the marshes and general Southern overgrowth of moss, trees and Kudzu.Add a lack of pick up after any hurricane and youv'e got yerself a little town that looks downright POST-APOCALYPTIC!I still have dreams about hangin' there!

Of course,i've been told that it's "changed",which probably means it's been gentrified, just like everywhere else! i'm kinda scared to go back, esp. after seeing what's happened to Gulfport and Biloxi in recent years!I'm sure it's been strip malled out, just like those places...

The Chicken Box started on the main drag of Market St.,it got trashed by a Hurricane and was take out only until we moved it to a restaurant on Chico Rd.,where it remained until it closed.

There are many fine facts about Human Garbage Disposal(and Pascagoula) on the web at humangarbagedisposal@yahoo.com....GO PANTHERS! (or did i go to OLV? Such a blur, those daze...)

The papermill/catfood plant combo smell is indeed a very special Goula characteristic. Man, you were just a few blocks away on the same street. Yeah - Lott's house is the big grey one with all the winding stairs on Beach Blvd., and after that little racial faux pas he pulled a few months back, my grandmother said the media trucks were all around the house. She was very distressed b/c she couldn't take her nightly walk down to the beach (otherwise known as the litter strewn sand strip at one end of the Blvd.) without "one of those donkeyass reporters sticking a microphone in my face." Last month I went to some biker bar on Market street with a sand pit and volleyball net in the parking lot, but it was pretty scary. I made up for that with a trip to Bozo's the next afternoon - home of the best shrimp po'boy I've ever had, even better than the many I've sampled in NO.

Where are you now? I'm in Memphis.

Man, I used to have fun in Gulfport as a kid.
When my grandparents had no room for us, we'd stay at the Alamo Courts Motor Inn, (the most genius motel ever, you felt like you were in Tijuana or something) go to Wet Willie's, eat Cajun's Fried Chicken, which was actually pretty good, but not as good as Chicken Box, and go see the local minor league basketball team (the jets? I think - ABA?). Yeah, my Grandma was a trip - she lived in Memphis forever before Gulfport and she used to play piano on live radio shows from the Peabody Skyway.

Wow,Memphis! I heard that was the best city because it's so fire! I live in seattle now, been up here for a year or so after a 71/2 year stint in Portland (after 5 in New Orleans, etc). It's pretty cool up here,in some cases TOO cool,as in the music scene, but i've always loved NW stuff ever since i was a kid, reading the World Book encyclopedia and seeing pictures of Totem Poles and the World's Fair.
That biker bar you went to- was it called Thunders Tavern? That was the Rocker bar where bands used to play, dating back to the 70s! Mostly cover bands,as that was all the entertainment options for "Rock n'Roll" if you wanted to drink in the bars back then.(BTW,this started my lifelong hatred of Cover Bands, recently refueled by the spate of hip "Tribute" acts created by people w/ no ideas or confidence in their own songwriting...Waah.)

I lived by Longfellow Manor,a place that was half destroyed for as long as i can rememeber post-hurricane.

I used to get dragged to my relatives houses in G-Port when i was a kid. I was forbidden to talk to anyone that lived around the neighborhood, even certain relatives were off limits to me!! the one bright spot was going to my Aunt's house on Sunday mornings, where i would watch the Sunday morning Movie on Channel 8 outta NO (we didn't get it in Goula)....warped my brain good!

The Alamo is still there ,though a pale imitation of it's former genius...

THUNDERS!!

And FYI - the Longfellow House was taken over by Ole Miss. No idea why. But, at least they have rebuilt it - and it looks great. Bad news...the lighthouse finally fell into the Gulf. Now you have to use a flashlight to see all the oil spill stains on the seawall at night!

...and i've been living it down ever since!they had a bad time at my house, half of 'em were sick and the other half were fighting,so they stayed at at hotel, not the Alamo Lodge but right by there...

They listed "Biloxi,Miss" as one of their worst shows in an interview with Gerard Cosloy (who rememebers HIM?) in an issue of Conflict zine.It broke my heart for years, but after seeing what happened to them i think it's funny now!
