twist a couple of arms and get the Drags back together!
Posted: Nov 21, 2009 2:22 am

I second the suggestions for Pat Todd & The Drags.

Speaking of getting old bands back together, why not ask some other old timers from around the area to reunite.
The Makers (if they agree to only play pre-glam stuff)
The Real Pills (that last Slabtown show was fantastic)
The Galaxy Trio (I know Jim is living in Eugene. Not sure where the other two are)
Miracle Workers (or is Gerry Mohr still in Sweden?)
Posted: Nov 24, 2009 1:47 pm

I've been asking for a Drags reunion for five years...not likely. However... this Bender should debut Steve Turner's new rock thing, the Lightning Queens, featuring CJ from the Drags and Scott from Monoshock.

THE FLUID...seriously, saw the first 2 reuinion shows in Denver last year...unreal! Apparently it was supposed to be a one time thing...but it worked out REALLY well, and they continue to play shows every couple of months..

Yes! Saw them at the Sub Pop Anniversary Fest, I third that they should play da bender.

Also saw Those Darlins at the KK&BBQ show and thought they were pretty fun, if you'd like to put some rowdy female Tennesseans on the lineup.

The Galaxy Trio

Oh hell yeah- would love to hear some of that ol GT...ditto on the Fluid as well.

Get SPURM to play; I think a member in Unnatural Helpers is in that band. "Saxamaphone!" Get Joe P. a round trip ticket so he can MC this shindig. Maybe even do SILVERKINGS.

How bout them there Hex Dispensers? I'm sure they'd love to break up the tedium of a Austin winter with some shitty weather and killer rock n roll...plus, they're kinda pretty fucking good..

i got this pdx band called Midnight Callers to play a show last weekend, and they were really impressive - sort of jangly powerpop type stuff. they're younger and super talented for their ages, but if you guys are going to be doing a matinee show, i'd suggest maybe hitting them up.
Posted: Dec 15, 2009 9:12 pm

Get the Zeros to come up to the NW again. That would rule.
Posted: Dec 15, 2009 11:40 pm

Dare you turn the Hesh knob up to 11 and get Red Fang?
Posted: Dec 16, 2009 10:17 am

Ok, here's my Wednesday special: Give the Mullens an extra box of poptarts to drag their shit up here. They gotta have one more show in 'em. Roy Loney too.

Hesh knob

Yes! Would be SO into this...hesh-up the whole damn thing if you like...I don't think I can take any more "jangly powerpop type stuff. they're younger and super talented for their ages"...seriously.

Maybe, not so big.

Spider Babies added. But you knew that.

The Girls and King Louie & the Missing Monuments, too.

Greg Ashley to perform with full band.

If you haven't listened to Indian Wars, do.

If you want to run an ad (cheap) in the Bender 2010 write Samuel Dodge Soule III at slabtownbar at gmail.com

And, if you're thinking about flying out to Portland for the Bender this year and your not sure... be sure. This thing will kill.

Should have schedule set by Sunday.

Dedicated to the memory of Bon Kondrak, lifer.

Also, per my New Years' resolution,i will use this post to beg for Junior's Gang to play the Bender, even if i can't be there to see it!

Dammit.

In the works (crosses fingers), but not finalized. I'd be in from Wed. on, but probably have to leave Saturday.
Which is cool, because I've always wanted to see Blank Its, and I'm dying to actually watch Head instead of listening to them from the back room.
But, I'd love to check out some weeknight awesome in Portland, too. Hotel will probably be a straight shot up the 405 to Slabtown.
Here's to hoping! PDX lady is in Memphis tomorrow and Thurs.

We have finally been given the official name for the highly anticipated rock 'n' roll band featuring Steve Turner (Mudhoney), CJ Stritzel (The Drags) and Scott Derr (Monoshock, Flash Flood & the Dikes): Cheap Flight.

Cheap Flight will debut at Slabtown Saturday February 6th as part the Slabtown Bender 2010.

Earlier reports that this band was calling itself Lightning Queens were incorrect. Fortunately.

What mean turn of events. First we learn that the money was just not going to be there to get Jay Reatard to this year's Bender. And then we learn he's gone. Condolences, all.

I might just see all you bitches there.

Still working this out. Just might still happen, but I'll need a place or three to crash from wednesday to saturday night. I may have a car from pdx, so no need to cart me around.
Can you folks in charge hold one ticket for friday and saturday night each?
I'll totally pay. Just trying to get this worked out.
Posted: Jan 16, 2010 4:16 am

p.s. if you sell out for tix, I understand. I'll try to make my own way.
Posted: Jan 16, 2010 9:08 pm

a place or three to crash

You will stay at my place or Matto's...done deal. His if you like cold, privacy, and moldy fridge phantoms, mine for princess tutu's, a squealing 5 year old, morning bacon and Stumptown. We both have wine and records. Tix should not be a problem...we'll work it out. Rad!
Posted: Jan 16, 2010 11:07 pm

pretty sure he'll be staying with you, princess tutu's
Posted: Jan 17, 2010 3:56 am

Maybe. @Work, we just launched over the weekend. My free ride to "train" people who live there is up in the air. I should have a hotel room, but we'll see.
I want to hang out with Troll and Petey most of all, but Skank, I want to eat cold taco meat with you and Matto (if he's down).
Posted: Jan 17, 2010 4:25 pm

Hangin' out with Petey, and hangin' out with Matto and I is quite often the same thing (Troll, dunno)...but missing Sunday of this Bender is a goddamn crime! Plus someone needs to report back to Memphis the glory that is PCG (Petey), Mean Jeans, Therapists and the Pity Fucks (Matto).
Posted: Jan 18, 2010 6:03 pm

JS - I got plenty of room as well - no tutu's and a decent amount of warmth, but you'd probably be on a blow up mattress. the morning bacon and stumptown sounds good tho - maybe I'll stay at princess tutu's!!

I want to hang out with Troll
Me too. Not really.

I'll bring a canary, if it'll help. I could post it by the door.
Posted: Feb 5, 2010 7:35 pm

Maybe you could nail it to the door, so it doesn't fly away.
Posted: Feb 5, 2010 7:39 pm

Well, if the local rags are correct, the scuzziness of the event should be sufficient to knock the little bugger out.

Can food be had right now or do I eat beforehand?

Too late. I couldn't wait. Had to bite the head off the canary. You'll need to find a suitable replacement now.

Highlights from last night: someone leaving the band-beer keg running (emptying it entirely) before the bands even started. Small groups of people excitedly watching the "talent" do coke through the slits in the curtains. The shoes i was wearing are pemanently tied and glazed with spit and booze and are a totally different color than they were pre-bending. HEAD shredded tires as was expected. Best Ty set I have ever seen too. Oh and the Girls were dix. I need some beef noodle soup and a sheep dip

someone leaving the band-beer keg running... So I think that the tap didn't have a good seal and thats why it leaked out. And that explains why it smelled ripe for the Sat. matinee shows. Talk about a PARTY foul, jeez! Ha ha,you're all hungover In fact, I was so hungover I took a wrong turn on the way to the matinee. Ended up on the eastside thinking that I missed EWI. "Go Hawkeyes!!" I needed to burn some alcohol via the Burnside bridge. "I just flew in from Seattle and boy are my arms tired." It's a good thing it started late. So far I've seen every band. One more day of VOLUME and BOOZE. And don't forget FOOTBALL!!!!!!!! Last night I thought that I was in New Orleans. Everybody sportin' Saints gear. I thought the Missing Monuments were going to tackle some fans. "Black & Gold, SuperBowl!!" I know I had a natural disaster in my stomach Sat. morn. They don't call it the BENDER for nothing. One of the bartenders found some brain matter behind the bar. Your not going to get that back. I sure wish Bob K. Joe P. Jack S. & Jay R. were here for this. Yes, you are missing out. Cheap Flight last night was AWSOME!! I can't wait to see them play Seattle. What the hell am I doing awake? I'm going back to bed.

yesterday was great....the Matinee show was strong fo sho...blurry memories of the evening...but definitely remember Louie and the MM's kicking serious ass...Shannon & co. brought down the barefootin' dance party...and Dietz, Slabtown's Bartender/force of nature....the man with a P.H.D. in tellin' it like it is, laid down the quote of the Bender...I was in the kitchen loading film in my camera, Dietz is counting tips...and these two random girls with headbands, feathers, and other accoutrement, wander back there looking for Louie...one of 'em starts babbling about some shit and Dietz just cut her short..."Sweetheart...being cute is one thing.....but talking is another"....everyone just burst into laughter....it was beautiful....here we go.....day 3.....

Blood all over my hands (can't find where it came from) I think a cat shit in my mouth while I was sleeping and I'd rather smash my penis with a crab hammer than listen to loud music right now

..."Sweetheart...being cute is one thing.....but talking is another"

good ol' Dietz. Yesterday was a fuckin' blast. I'll have to about tonight, maybe be persuaded to roll down. I want to.

just came back to take the dog out and feed him. every band today has been killer. if you're on the fence about coming out for the rest of the show, get on off of it and come on down...

Andrew Loomis bum-rushing the door for Pierced Arrows:

Door person: But you're not playing.

Andrew claims he is playing and won't pay.

Door person: But you're not playing.

Andrew's wife hands door person admission price for herself.

Andrew: You don't have to pay!

Wife: But you're NOT PLAYING.

Of course, Andrew didn't pay. Kicking Andrew Loomis out of the Bender would be like kicking Jay Reatard out of Gonerfest.

Thanks, everyone.

How did my pals The Teutonics do? Was the stage soaked in beer?

How did my pals The Teutonics do?
I remember seeing them. No audio was included in my blackout-replay
Posted: Feb 9, 2010 2:21 pm

Teutonics...well, the wake from that wave of disaster should be hitting Sioux City right about now. Incredibly crazed shit storm left tears in my eyes-or was that beer? Surprised Slabtown didn't float away in its own ocean of PBR. Anyways, those goofballs were great. They even brought out the "Wheel 'o Booze." Perfect dance combo for any occasion.

So how was Spider Babies, anyway? Does anyone even remember Sunday at all?

If this was last year's Bender thread there'd be pics by now. Just saying.
Posted: Feb 10, 2010 1:07 pm

I woulda bussed it down and taken pics. I holed up and watched seasons one and two of Weeds, tho.
Posted: Feb 10, 2010 1:26 pm

Sunday was a blast. Spider Babies were excellent, as were every band I remember seeing... Leaders and Manic Attracts really stood out... People were inebriated, some puking, some crying...

Manic Attracts really stood out

my friend and i were excited because there was a dude at the bender that looked just like a young mickey dolenz. when it turned out he was the drummer for manic attracts, it was twice as cool!

indian wars and dead ghosts sounded great, too! the canucks brought it!
Posted: Feb 10, 2010 3:33 pm

manic attracts were definitely a highlight - bummed that I bought a CD-R off em and threw it with my merch and someone stole it from me.
Posted: Feb 10, 2010 5:10 pm

Yeah Sunday was worth the pain= Manic Attracts, Spider Babies, Indian Wars, Dead Ghosts were all stand out and that was prob the best Leaders show I have ever seen. Best punk band in town.

I lost all the merch I bought or was given too but have no idea when or where

Already working on Bender 2011.

To think, three months ago, I didn't even think we going to be able to do the Bender. 2009 SUCKED.

But not only did it come together, I think Bender 2010 was our best yet.

Again, thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.

Bender 2011 will be February 4 - 6.
Posted: Feb 11, 2010 3:39 am

For the record, I don't look anything like mickey dolenz.

... and for whoever lost their manic attracts cds, i'll send you the tracks via e-mail. Just message me.

Also, spider babies ruled, leaders doing that hubble bubble tune got me stoked as fuck, and mean jeans were sick as fuck.

Pierced arrows are always a pleasure.

Also, get manic attracts to play bender 2011.

I fucking love portland.

Ty Segall's set was good!! Bipolaroid had a nice sloppy down-beat Southern sound that I miss hearing. I think The Girls drummer was late and people starting bitchin'. Clipboard Lady was freaking out!! HEAD broke a bass string and ended a little early. They had another 5 songs on that setlist. I had forgettin' about IDLE TIMES. "C" Town in the house!! JR.'s Gang was Pre MONEY CHANGERS? So HEADLINERS gain a keyboard player and LEADERS lose a keyboard player. Joe, you have no idea the monster you have created. Didn't see that one coming. SANDWITCHES had this late 50, earlly 60 C&W female harmony sound that me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I finally saw SHANNON & HER CLAMS, thank you. John Waters would love you guys. Somebody had their full bred Boxer there on Sat. That was cool. Yeah man, Sunday was fuckin' full throttle. That Bowl game sidetracked me and I missed THE THERAPISTS, I lost. I heard they raped some people on stage, so mabey I didn't miss much. TIMECOPZ left outta there without ever putting merch on the table. Clipboard Lady told MEAN JEANS, "You got one more song!" Whatever!! There again they had like 5 more songs on that setlist. there'd be pics by now. Just saying If someone were to direct me to another thread on how to post these pics, I will.
"Keep Snortland Wired!!"

yeah, maybe it was just the hair. either way, i think you guys really ought to consider throwing a monkees covers or two into your set. hope to see you guys back in portland soon...
Posted: Feb 11, 2010 3:27 pm

Yeah, I think Manic Attracts was the big "surprise" of the this year's Bender.

Also, I totally love the Burning Yellows, just wish they had a longer set.

Indian Wars was great. Ty Segall was a real stand-out. But I've got to say, Greg Ashley was my hands down favorite. What a talent.
Posted: Feb 12, 2010 12:53 pm

Greg Ashley was my hands down favorite. What a talent.

Seriously. Thanks for booking him, loved it.

"Oh and the Girls were dix."

please elaborate on this. Im very interested in your opinion.
Posted: Feb 13, 2010 4:34 pm

"I think The Girls drummer was late and people starting bitchin'."

Yeah our drummer was running a little late because they got lost near the club but heres the funny thing....Courtney (the stage manager) wanted us to delay our set anyways because they were running ahead of schedule. By the time he showed up and set up we still had like 5 mins to delay. Of course people would rather bitch then find out whats really going on.
