The Bugs, the Rock N Roll Adventure Kids
Friday, January 9
Sara Brickner

The problem with Portland garage-punk rock band the Bugs has nothing to do with their music" it's that almost no one outside the city knows who they are. PDX pumps out great garage bands like insects reproduce"by the hundreds" but even though they've been around for almost a decade, the Bugs emulate their tiny namesakes, purposely flying under the radar to avoid the clinical inspection, capture, and figurative squishing that national recognition and big record deals can invite. No, the Bugs prefer to lurk in the cracks and crevasses of the Portland underground, playing perfect punk rock party tunes at house shows and small clubs while sporadically releasing albums on tiny PDX label Hovercraft. Only those in the know get to appreciate the Bugs' balls-out, spastic guitar jams and occasional forays into slower, acoustic territory" and this time, they're playing with Berkeley garage rock badasses the Rock N Roll Adventure Kids, an awesome band whose name tells you pretty much all you need to know. This show will be the best rock and roll shindig in the city tonight, hands down.

Posted: Jan 8, 2009 9:10 pm

Closed for the weekend. As a trucker @ work told me, there is no roundabout to this clusterfuck. You either fly or stay home. Sucks. I was giving serious thought to drivingup for this one.

missed the Bugs this time
busy sleeping/dreaming of
steak. Walked in and overtop
of the din I found out
The Rock and Roll Action Kids
cancelled. Walked out and
asked someone drunk to get
Petey to put me on the PCG
guest list cause that band
was up as headliner, but
havin' fun with drunks and
watching young prostitutes
walk the sidewalks could be
more entertaining than $6 for
Pure Country Gold set. Little did
I know Cindy was in the house.
(cowboy boots, black leather jacket,
lots of bling and cleavage with a
Pixi hair do) or the new PCG 7"45 on
Big Legal Mess was at the products table.
then Brian offered me admission on a donation.
I dug $3 out and thought one band or $3 ain't bad.
Then I spent $8 for a $7.50 glass of Irish Wiskey.

by the way Pure Country Gold's set was fab 'cept they did a grunge # for their oncore and i'm diggin' the Millionaire side of the new PCG 45.
looking forward to the seeing the band next mont at the Bender

in '81 when St Hellens blew it's top.

Um, that would be May 18th, 1980. Just being anal today.
