THE DEADBEATS

Scott Guerin founder of the Deadbeats, probably the world's first "jazz-punk" group and a Masque regular reforms the band for the first time since the early 80s. Known for elaborate stage outfits and theatrical props as much as dark, murderous lyrics, the Deadbeats boasted real musicians; cool guys with serious chops who never overplayed, the Deadbeats will pay tribute to Scott's late brother Shawn Guerin, the band's original astounding drummer. Best known for Kill the Hippies, Final Ride and Maria Maria (I Just Shot a Girl Named Maria). Hopefully, Geza X will also join in on guitar.

damn, really wish i could go to this. from the kbd list ....

Just added: SHOCK (first reunion since 1979), DOGS, THE DETOURS
(w/Rikk Agnew), and MIDDLE CLASS have not committed to it yet, but
they are going to have a practice and if they think they sound okay,
they will play. The big talk is that the "secret" guest band will be
the DILS who have been playing their songs agin recently.

how about the AlleyCats?

i know that dianne chai lives in FLA (have talked to her recently)

have no idea what randy or john are up to however
they have a new cd/dvd out... it would be good to see em, but probably not logistically possible for an alley cats reunion... but it would be sweet

Hey TK!

Baba is the one that doesn't entertain the idea.

wow you're missing heavy trash/ponys & kk/bbq & haunted george too!

Bummer!
Posted: Nov 8, 2007 11:25 pm

That's a damn shame that Baba doesn't want to do it. They just toured Europe a few months back and are going to release a DVD on Munster.

Hector's little brother can play drums!!!! They should have done it!

bummer indeed BUT... jack oblivian and tyler keith were the double-headers of an ad-hoc punk rock mariachi band at my photo show... it was unique and KILLAH! that's gonna carry me for MONTHS

you have no idea how hard i have been trying to make that a reality.

it all depends on what the accountant says next week...

I am going to try to find my way to this from Las Vegas.
Is it being held at a relatively easy place to locate?
I don't know the L.A. area very well yet so tips would be much appreciated.

Is it being held at a relatively easy place to locate?

yes - the echo is easily accessed from freeways and surface streets
its at the corner of sunset and glendale blvds
not far from the 101 freeway

and if you don't have a friend to crash with, its very close to the eastern end of hollywood blvd where there are cheaply priced hotels/motels (under $90)
Posted: Nov 10, 2007 1:00 am

thanks!

the most recent place I went to see a band in L.A. area was The Scene for the Night Terrors last fall, so my memory is foggy at best on directions and where i was.
And no one i know is close to there, unless burbank is close, and i will have to look for a place to sleep in or take up a spot in my car.
I did purchase a nice sleeping bag for my car a little while ago.

Any and all advice helps and I thank you.
Posted: Nov 10, 2007 1:16 am

burbank is not far!
the scene is in glendale - which freeway-wise is easier to navigate from burbank

but burbank to the echo is pretty much the same, just in another direction

you must be comfortable with freeway driving, that's all.
Posted: Nov 10, 2007 2:59 am

the echo is about 8 exits from Burbank on the 101
Posted: Nov 10, 2007 3:21 am

thanks again!

i'll will stay in burbank and then come out on sunday.
i don't mind freeway driving, my kalamazoo soul is getting used to the always busy freeways of the west.

wonder if i should buy a ticket ahead of time??

The Eyes played! they were damn good too!

Diffs played first they were ok...germs covers...blah.
Dogs were next and they tore it up!
Wild Weekend did a great Zeros and got people dancing!
THE GEARS! were on FIRE!
there's a period where things got fuzzy
then The Eyes hit the stage! and it was awesome!!
more fuzzy
The Deadbeats got everyone going nuts!
and finally the Plugz came out and just ripped into Electrify Me!
I GOT MINDLESS CONTENTMENT!
I staggered out and got some tacos!

It was a punk rock high school reunion! so many people I haven't seen in years! met tons of new cool folks!
