last night and tonight were great. cannot wait to hear the royal pendletons and hipshakes from tonight. goddamn. i have no voice left. geebus. haha.

I ache.
But I think tonight's recordings came out great. I'm sure Jack will post what he can before we gotta be at the Bucc to set up at noon tomorrow.

Brad...we dropped in a splitter before the PA console so we get all the lines from the stage that Joel gets for the PA without it going through his system at all. But we're mixing it all on-the-fly straight to 2-track DAT. No multitrack this year. But after Gfest last year plus the Blackout, we've got a better idea of what we need to do.

the Hipshakes

Bruce, Daniel and Andrew totally rule. Judson the Photographer (that's his new name, from now on) told me a great story of picking them up (on a complete hunch) off of Union Thursday. They were just walking around Memphis with their napsacks, with no clue where anything was... Poor chaps, I'm glad they got saved. Apparently Cheveau and Kemp Boyd got saved this morning at Al Green's church... Love those no car key havin' dudes, too!

You should get the DVD/CD from last year.

my faves of the weekend :
--The MANS!! - what can I say? -- they are the best band in the world.
--The Hipshakes - these guys are gonna be legends!
--Rockin' Enocky!! - so cool - so charming!
--Touch-Me-Nots - WAY better live than the record - which I thought was awesome to begin with!
--Angry Angles - Ryan's drumming takes this band to a whole other level....
--Leather Uppers!! - say whatcha want about these guys - but they ruled!!
--Jack Oblivian Band - holee crap! Their version of "Do the Milkshake" was outta control!
EVERYONE was really great - but these were just some highlights for me personally...
Posted: Oct 2, 2006 6:00 pm

WOW! Sounds alot better on this than it did behind the kit! i couldn't hear nuthin...

You guys is TOPS!

Another favorite moment, goner board becomes real life with the slight exchange about the Zippin Pippin being a hard ticket to come by at the fair down the street during Harlan's set....
Posted: Oct 2, 2006 6:36 pm

I like the Mans, but I've seen 'em/bought the record and there's no way they can contend with the mighty Hipshakes.
Posted: Oct 2, 2006 7:22 pm

the MANS were really fucking fun at the day show, the record is alright by me, but live is were they are the most fun and they were fun on saturday.

TRUE SONS OF THUNDER were a fucking great sonic overload, wish i could see them play more often.

drunk eel bum in the back fighting the tree, was pretty good too.

now that i am in hollywood and walking distance to technicolor, i will be developing all the film i shot at goner fest and will post soon

(i use motion picture film in my camera; i can't go to the 1 hour photo... those BNLA's shots on the gonerfest blog and my site, i knew i needed to turn around, so its just kodak film)

so that's what was going on in that back room.

yeah - jack stands busted me with my contraband vodka

What motion picture film do you use that is not Kodak? And is that not a bit prohibitive, cost wise to process?? Just curious.
Posted: Oct 7, 2006 1:01 am

actually, i use kodak motion picture film - i was typing too fast to type in 'print film' after kodak. i use kodak ultra color when i have to use print film and have to get it developed in a regular lab or a 1-hour photo place

because i am a working cinematographer who shoots in available light almost 100% of the time, i was asked to beta test vision and vision2 and now i am a kodak endorsee for vision2 film stock and for aaton's a minima camera and because i am in hollywood AND working on a movie, i just have technicolor run my film for stills. one of the perqs of my particular job. HOWEVER - there are labs for civilians that load ends and stuff from 35mm reels for still cameras and process it as well

my rate at technicolor is 13 cents a foot, by the way.

That's cool....I thought I had heard of people shooting still on cine stock, but I thought the perfs might be different for some reason. Interesting.

Not to jump off the topic, but how are the Vision/2 stocks in 16mm?
Posted: Oct 7, 2006 1:30 am

vision stocks are the same in 35, 16 and super 8. i use all of those formats.
its the most flexible stock i've ever used and performs fantastically under the lowest lighting conditions and in the most severe shifts of light. really true blacks!

First chance I've had to really listen back to all of it. I'm making some improvements, and will document as I go along. Hipshakes are WAY louder now.

I would appreciate it if some kind soul would post the titles of the songs Jack Stands posted. I know some of the titles but not all of them. Even if you only know a few of them I would appreciate you listing them. Thanks to Jack Stands for the music and pics. I know that is a lot of work.

I think these guys had about 2 good (not great) songs, the rest was just noise with shitty keyboards and some sampler, they're like human eye, without talent.

FINALLY listening to Cheveu right now

really? didn't dig it for the most part. singer dude looked like he was taking a grumpy on stage. the guitar guy looked like timmy vulgar's step brother in a clint howard kind of way. but appearances aside they didn't do much for me.

but it's a widely held belief that i have horrible taste so whatever.

~28 hours. Grab what you can.

when cheveu played here, i picked up there cdr and it is full of good songs, i was passed out when they played at gonerfest so i don't have an opinion on that, but when i saw them the following monday, i had a great time shaking my ass. i don't really get the human eye comparison, except for the fact that they share members with balding hair lines.

If there are bands out there that did not get a chance to hear their stuff, e-mail me, and we can work something out. I'll be uploading whole sets on the server, so I have to make room. Two choices for bands, you can download the set (preffered) or I can mail you a cd copy.
