Bob Holmes......Can't leave him out!
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 8:47 pm

Don't be sorry, just never really been my cup of tea.

There's also Steve Selvidge, Lilly Afshar, Mr. Eric, mattyb, Quinn & Justice, J. White, that Yarber guy is pretty o.k....
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 8:49 pm

Lilly Afshar is incredible---good call!!!! By far best classical and possibly best period!
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 8:51 pm

She all crazy, though...
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 8:51 pm

James Eddie Campbell aka Lamar Sorrento is a bad mother.....shut yo mouth.....hey I'm just talkin' 'bout Lamar....we'll we can dig it.

But classical? Hell, she studied under Segovia or some such...
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 8:56 pm

What about Monsieur Jeffrey Evans? I don't live there, but I'm throwing that out there anyhoo...
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 9:08 pm

1. Rob Evil (Evil Army)
2. Jody Smith (Lewds/Sons of Bitches)
3. Jay Jay Reatard (Reatards/Lost Sounds)
4. Cey Mooney (Pezz/Akasha)
5. Elvis (Elvis)

these guys may not be the "best", but they are my favorites.
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 9:11 pm

Some of the Giboson Bros, stuff had great riffs("Mississippi Bol Weevil", "Whistlebait", "Dirt Preacher"), but since 68' Comeback has had so many guitar players, I'm never sure who should get the credit. Jeff is very good though.

Jay Reatard is definitely a talent and fav as well.
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 9:18 pm

I nominate myself for worst guitarist. I can make Johnny Ramone look like Yingyang Malmspeed.
O.k. Lily Afshar is really, really good, but i hear she's a superhardass slavedriver.
I've been told that Alex Chilton now lives in Hoenwald Tenn. (close to my home town. true? and also he calls that 70's show, that 70 dollar show cuz the producers give him 70 bucks for each use of that song, as a gift, because he doesn't really get royalties cuz that catalog was sold to Fantasy or something, anyone? Bueller?....Bueller?...
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 9:23 pm

I thought he was in NOrleans
Posted: Aug 19, 2005 9:26 pm

Saw Jim Duckworth playing with Greg Hisky at the Bucc Friday evening.

It's pretty much my reaction anytime I see him but . . .holy shit.

Theres only one duckworth (no pun intended) worth mentioning in this poll.
Posted: Aug 22, 2005 3:45 pm

Yes since he is the main core member and he is still alive and living in Memphis, I considered it Monsier Jeffrey Evans... I thought he at least needed to be added to this string, since most of the folks you guys have mentioned I have never even heard of --aside from Elvis. Elvis was just a great all around performer, I don't know that his guitar playing really stood out that much. Gotta give props to a man who drives a cadillac hearse at 25 mph city or highway...
Posted: Aug 22, 2005 4:36 pm

Gotta throw Doug Easley in there, too...

Don't forget about Clint Wagner!

Posted: Aug 26, 2005 3:56 am

Eric Gales. What a sad sad story. I like Jake Vest from Augustine too, he's coming up.

GREG! -songwriter, I don't give a fuck about the technical shit, I just know that Greg O can make a guitar sound: Very Pissed, Very Country, Very Happy, Verry Sad, Very Pop...sometimes all at the same time! you can't fuck with that! NOt that many artist can have more than one sound without sounding like a huge pile of shit...i.e. Everlast from House of Pain!

That's what shaggy, and mr. joe danger(love yall!(in a non- commited sleazy-make your wives, and girlfriends angry-kind of way))get for hangin' out with dirty, ole' miss linda.I'm glad my parents MADE me take guitar lessons so I could teach my friends to play the wrong way for FREE! some of them guitar lessons are expensive, and USELESS.GREG GINN USED TO BE THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER IN MEMPHIS,BUT ONLY 3 TIMES.
Posted: Sep 12, 2005 9:03 pm

It's Chef John Stivers of Impala, of course! He will be serving up the tasty licks and grooves at Electric Goneroo. All you thrashers, gay ragers, sweep pickers, tappers, and miss linda camp posse thugs should come prepared to take notes. Mmmm...mmmm...good.

If Shawn Lane were still alive today, he'd be fat as shit.

I don't know about that... There's always someone better.

Jim Duckworth and David Pound- you can see them together in the Jim Duckworth Action Figures, or Hisky's latest band, I forget what they call it..
Dave also plays with Mike Vessey in Plywood Doghouse- Both bands have to be heard to be believed- just some unreal shit
Posted: Dec 22, 2005 7:32 pm

If Vito Bratta ever played in Memphis, he would be the best. Reb Beach has been here a few times. He would be up there too. John Sykes is a badass. That "Bad Boys" song off of Whitesnake S/T is one of the best things ever. If Yngwie hadn't cancelled at the Stage Stop, he would probably be the best. Everybody wants to be Yngwie. That's why he's so hated.

Well, Greg's a southpaw, and played a right-handed guitar (strung upside down!!!!) at our wedding reception, so he gets my vote ...

Albert King (a southpaw too) taught himself to play a right-handed guitar upside-down while keeping the strings strung for a righty. It's not easy to play chords like that. I think Little Jimmy and Eric Gales did that too.

Dog raping to all of you!
