Goner Message Board / Memphis / How hot'll it get this summer?
Posted: Jun 10, 2005 10:05 pm

The last three summers, I don't believe it's hit above 100. Before that, we'd consistently have about a week or more over the 'hundreds' with ball-shrivelling humidity. The afternoon popcorn showers have started up kind of early this year.
So far, Ive asked a couple of people, and peak temperatures were guesstimated at"
1 for 101
2 for 102
1 for 103
1 for 104

What's your guess?

What's it like now? I came to Japan expecting to sweat my sac off but it's been relatively mild. A few hot ones, but nice overall. The rainy season is about to start, though. Could suck real soon.

"It's so goddamned hot outside,
I'm about to move to Maine.
Jesus you could bar-b-q a chicken on my dashboard.
Does it ever fucking rain?"

Dunno, Muddy. 'Bout the only time I got out in the past two weekends was the Cool Jerks show at the Buc. If you see a crazy, longhair, jeus-lookin' dude driving a two-tone, 80's Land Cruiser around, that's probably not me, either.

I was at the Cool Jerks show. I have a big nose too. And I'm pretty skinny. I may have offered you some crisps with a beef jerky chaser. Any recall?
Posted: Jun 14, 2005 12:00 am

I remember a lot of beer, Scott's Rickenbacker, seein' some people I used to go to school with, beer, the Cool Jerks rockin' out awesomely and then turning on me with some Eddie Money crap, and harrassing the Guitar player about his Jaguar, which I mistakenly called a Mustang.
I could've definitely used the beef jerky.

It's alittle crispy in NY too. Not too bad tho.

So I've been working over the numbers. According to the NWS at Memphis International, 2000 was the last summer we even hit 100. Actually, from Aug 26 to Sept 4, Highs stayed above 100, peaking at 107. Also, highest temp this month, so far, was 97. That's the warmest day for June in Memphis since 1998 (which, for several days, it was 98).

Boring? Yes. Yes, I am.

Sweet Jesus. That's Monday. Tuesday is much the same, but with paint fumes. Wednesday is meth day, Thursday is Sctch-guard and freon, Friday and Saturday, anything goes. And on Sunday we rest because the liquor store is closed.

today, I took a shower sober. It was strangely refreshing. And instead of crankin' up the MOTORHEAD, I found the"Randi Rhodes" show to be a refreshing change of pace.

Last Summer was so mild I almost forgot where I was living. The last Memphis Summer I endured prior to that was the blistering Summer of 97', and this one is on tap to be another scorcher.

High today expected to be near 100.
I'm tracking this stuff...

Watering my grass right now. It hasn't been posted yet, but, we may have hit 99. Actually, I'm pretty sure we did, but, I'm basing my stats from Memphis International....

We did, in fact, hit 99 yesterday. I believe we will hit 100 today.
The last time we hit 99 for the month of June was 1988.
The record for this day is 101, back in 1969.

We hit 100.
Posted: Aug 20, 2005 8:34 pm

Well, that last post was the last time we hit 100 (although we may hit it today). So far, this year apears to be the hottest summer's since 2000, overall.

100 degrees today. I'm dyin. It ain't funny...
At least it's not 1980. But, I've let my moonflowers die anyway. I'm sick of this shit.

It did, in fact, hit 100 today. Mowed and edged all through it.

101 at 2pm yesterday during my 12 year olds football jamboree. I am not built for this, and I'm muddier than most. I can't remember a summer with this many highs in the upper 90's. 1998 came close, but let up in August.

I don't doubt it, TMO. I'm strictly basing my figures off the airport data. I am confident it has beat 100 in several areas in the city. Are you still in the vacinity MalevolentOne? My nephew was doing the same thing yesterday.
and...
It hit 100 again today.

How hot was it today? It's not much better. Why won't those weather guys say "we screwed up. No cold front"? I mean, that's news.
Posted: Aug 23, 2005 2:59 am

Official high will be up within the hour at NOAA. Weathermen (including NOAA) said high would be 95. It was at lest 98.

Today was horribly, awfully hot. I regularly run and work out at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, very often slightly hung over, but today was the first time this summer I've done it and then gone to work and puked from dehydration. ...

Well today is the last day of summer. It was, in fact, the hottest summer in Memphis since 2000.
Posted: Sep 21, 2005 11:11 pm

damn, I can't believe summer is over. it's going out with a bang though, today was hot as fuck.
Posted: Jun 23, 2006 9:43 pm

It's that time again. My guess is a high temp of 102, with a three day period of at or over 100 sustained. In short, hotter than last year.
Posted: Jun 23, 2006 10:20 pm

i think you're right. 102. hot as fuck. not so fun. too bad i cannot go to liberty land and ride on the log flume to cool off. JUST KIDDING..
Posted: Jun 23, 2006 11:17 pm

I'll take 103...

Here's a little drug/weather related tip. Do NOT take sudafed in the morning and then go out and do yard word. You will sweat like two pigs.
Posted: Jun 24, 2006 8:12 pm

Alisa, you crack me up.

This summer, so far, has felt much hotter than years past. Even with the windstorm a few years ago, it wasn't so horrible without a/c for a few weeks. Uggh! I always thought the worst month was August.
Posted: Jul 4, 2006 3:47 am

How hot will it get? Hot as fuck. As it is now. In Memphis you walk outside now and it's like being in an oven. Really. I like to imagine that I'm Sylvia Plath and this is how the oven feels. Flights of fancy are all that get me through it...
Posted: Jul 4, 2006 4:02 am

Low humidity? That is what I find to be the cause of the ovenlike feeling Portland gets sometimes in the summer afternoons.
Posted: Jul 6, 2006 9:35 pm

I hope all this shit about global warming is true. I've got my fingers crossed! This will be the hottest summer since before the earth developed an atmosphere. Mabey we'll have more hurricanes than ever recorded. I hope we all die! but soon!

I still can't spell. My proof reading skills are even worse.

I'll take 103...

This just in...103 at the airport today.
