As a kid growing up in Memphis, it always seemed that the season's first cool front would come through sometime during the MidSouth Fair--late September.
Never made things chilly, just broke the really humid steamy heat that had been around for months--made things pleasantly warm instead.
Spent most of my life in New Orleans--and it was exactly the same, like clockwork around the first day or so of Autumn, bingo, the cool front would arrive.
It felt like you'd finally gotten off some terrible, dirty, sweaty 6 month shft at work and could go home.
I noticed that the next morning, the dogs and cats would awake from their torpor and gallop through the house, energized.
