Finally! A thread on this parta the board i can respond to ('cuz it's not about the local sports team!!!)! I've never rode on the bus in Memphis, but i've done ridden public transit in a lotta cities, and my guess would be somewhere in the $1 range.

Time for an old man digression:One time i was bitchin' about Portland buses w/Cort Williams (who's from Memphis-anyone remember him? He's probably in his mid 30s
by now, that would place him hangin' out there probably the mid 80s-he used to have
GG Allin stories about seeing him at The Antenna(?)-he also had a twin bro named Christian if that helps),and he said buses there pretty much stopped running @ 4pm,so i should be glad PDX has busses that run late, even if they don't run late enough (ie,2 hours before bar closin' time!)!

Maybe responding to this will get some transit riders typin'...or not.

cort rules! he's the one for the dvd discussion thread... he's still in town, works as a bar manager in tunica, see him at the unknown pleasures dj gigs regularly, and he frequents the lamplighter.

didn't know he was a memphis transit authority, though... i'll grill him next time i see him!

the bus system here sucks! i don't know why people are against having the streetcar go all the way through the city.iguess that would make it too easy and pedestrian friendly.

I'm all for a lightrail----not some rickety old trolley----going through town. And I definitely have some concerns about it derailing due to the lack of quality labor in this town.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
What'd I say?

What's it called?

That's right! Monorail!

I hear those things are awfully loud...

It glides as softly as a cloud.

Is there a chance the track could bend?

Not on your life, my Hindu friend.

What about us brain-dead slobs?

You'll be given cushy jobs.

Were you sent here by the devil?

No, good sir, I'm on the level.

The ring came off my pudding can.

Take my pen knife, my good man.

I swear it's Springfield's only choice...
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!

What's it called?

Once again...

But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...

Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!

Mono... D'oh!

monorail failure- Prime example: Detroit, its called the DPM (detroit people mover) it goes like 3 miles and thats it. Total waste of tax payer money, then again all of Detroits mayors have been incompitent idiots. Detroit doesnt suck. its the scene that sucks, Ok so you have trashy BLACK frizzed out hair and jean jackets and white belts, and tight smelly skin tight BLACK pants, hmmm NYC 1978... fuckin bone heads. Please do all the heroine you can and buy all the Trash Brats shit, so it'll never come back again. Im gonna go to Tiger Stadium and smoke some crack.

all i'm gettin at is if you ride a bike in this town you are going to die... and the bus system sucks, i've been passed up more times than have been picked up.. so if the streetcar goes 3 miles an hour at least i can catch up to it the fucking thing.

Here in Lousyville we have a Trolley that comes every 15 minutes and is free. I ride it every day to and from work. The bad thing about it is that it stops running around 7pm and only goes in the city. It saves me gas money and $80 a month parking. Every place should have one.

Finally!!! Leave it to Shaggy to be HONEST about riding a bike in Memphis. I cannot put it any better than "if you ride a bike in this town, you're going to die."
