Grizz beat Sacramento Kings and bitchy Brad Miller complained about not getting calls down the stretch... to the Grizzlies... awww.

This after Bonzi Wells gets hit in the forehead and leaves the game bleeding (no call), and Pau gets assaulted every time down the court and gets no calls. well, he did get a call on Miller when he handchecked him. Miller practically started to cry. then Pau proceeded to destroy him with a minute left on a dunk that stromile woulda loved.

despite what i wrote the other night, Pau showed some real power against the kings. he somehow made one layup with a King holding each of his arms, which looked like something that Shaq would do. all game, he got mad and attacked and the Kings had to take it. he even showed up on defense.

grizz had tons of blocks underneath, bibby went ice cold, peja stopped getting looks oin the 2nd half, and earl watson continued to step it up at point guard. shane made some big shots and played killer defense. our defense keeps getting better.

and we made free throws down the stretch.

we've beaten Sacramento, San Antonio, Dallas, Lakers, Portland and New Jersey (twice).

nice.

rodney "the sherrif" buford was not sighted on the kings bench. j-will was seen ribbing the kings from the sidelines. and hubie was seen giving j-will a hard time about his velour pajama-esque get-up before the game.

great win. i love those grizz.

Gotta give POW props for the slam at the end of the game & not being a total pussy the rest of the game. His 12' shot was on last night. That was his calling card rookie year. Why does he not take it every time? He seems to think a couple of dribbles into traffic is good for the team. Great win for the Grizzwolds as they could have easily handed it back over.

The only downside i see is: if POW can play that well when he feels like it, where is he the other 66% of the games? Dreaming of spanish beaches, morroccon hashish, & a Lost Sounds club gig?

J-Will looking good velour style. Maybe it's just better if he keeps stylin' from the bench. The record without J-Will? Pretty daman good! Nooffense, Lacey, I'm sure you dig that look!

yeah, the record without j-will is great, but with troy bell as our backup, i'd much rather go jason / earl. much as i love the mike miller/ bonzi point set-up, too.

memphis tv news didn't even mention the grizz win tonight- total coverage of the New Orleans bowl win. great for tigers, great for memphis, but it's a mediocre team beating a mediocre team in a mediocre bowl game. grizz beat one of the best basketball teams on the planet. if we had beaten OSU or whoever's good in college football, then we can go bananas. let's have a little respect.

'Nother big win for the Grizz tonite. I like this fuckin' team. LOVE J-Will off the bench!
They had to have it because they're about to embark on another schedule from Hell:

11 of the next 16 games are on the road! 9 of those road games are against .500 or better teams. That'll bring 'em to the midway point of the season. If they can just tread water til then, the second half of the season gets alot easier: 24-17, home/away.

Watched some of the Spurs-Sonics tonight. Doesn't make me feel too bad about how the Spurs beat the Grizz. They're absolutely dominating the Sonics, and it's in Seattle.

State 'o the NBA: Spurs, Lakers and everybody else. Those two are by FAR the class of the league, and all the other teams are alot closer to each other than them. Hey, good for the Grizz. We've only gotta play 'em two more times apiece, and we've already punked 'em both!

NBA's best bench?
J-Will
Bonzi
Shane
Stro
Bo

yeah, i thought the same thing tonight. seattle just looked like some folks out there running around. flip's great, rashard's great, but they're out a barry and some 3 point shooter. and their plays just ain't Grizz-tight.

same kinda thing with miami- they got players, they don't have plays.

we got tons of players. hopefully we can keep bonzi's head into the team concept, that maybe coming off the bench makes you the man, too, that there's no superstars here. our defense can only get better as the players get to know each other better, right? i think we are going to be a tough team to beat. we won't kill teams with talent, but we're a tought team to beat. i never liked the way utah played, but that's what we're going to, minus the monotonous pick and roll.

jason was like a blast of fresh air coming into the game. damn he's good.

we won a game we should have won, no problem. and jake got to run around a bit. whoo.

go grizz.

Did anyone see the Lakers/Nuggets highlights? Nuggets up by 1 with 2 seconds left and Kobe hits the game winner with no time left after being in court in Colorado for 10 hours then flying back to LA and arriving in the middle of the game. Prick.

Nuggets can't lose enough for me...But that goes for everybody else in our ridiculous division, too.

Tonite tests the stones of the Grizz. A victory in big ez means this is the real thang! (Grizzwolds xmas vacation II on tnt as well--a good sign)

Not a bad loss... we're gonna be flat sometimes. and at least the hornays are decent. we had a chance to steal it, couldn't muster the mustard.

'course if j-mash had gone, we woulda been real toast.

good to see j-will out there running. we missed lorenzen for sure.

Yeah.
I see a good rivalry for next season.
Gotta see what happens when everyone is healthy on both teams.
Baron dealt a couple of sick shots tonite.
Pau can deliver the oop...but he sure is ugly.
Bonzi is weak. all that crying is gonna wet up the court.
JWill?....whatever.

I gotta disagree, chiz! The new orleans loss was a realllly bad one for many reasons. Most importantly it was a big road test with a future div. powerhouse rival and an imp. road steppingstone to see if the grizz can get to the upper echelon. Unfortunately it was one in which the Grizz fell in the water. That was the 2nd time this year that if the Grizz had won, they would have positioned themselves to be in 1st place and they just don't have the killer instinct. Who is at fault for this? (I'm not complaining cause they've already exceeded everyone's expectations including mine for the whole season,) but you can't blame West, Hoobie, or the city, so you have to blame it on their "star", Pow. And Pow is weak and does not appear that he will ever give up on his ref whining. Dude, you are not gonna get the going to the goal like a girl calls...Against Denver his numbers look great on paper, but he should have had 40, not 24. His defense is a huge liability and his attitude is the worst on the team by far. Time to trade Pow & J-Will for a great point guard who can take the team to the next level and a big body who is NBA ready. Radical? Maybe, but I'm throwing in the towel on POW. I would love to have another 6'8" Battier or Posey to run with this team over Pow. Go Grizz and wait til next year cause it aint' gonna happen this year...

P.S. If anyone still thinks trading Battier is on the table, they should be shot! He is the soul of this team.

I agree with Sherm, to a point. Two bad losses - both games we could/should have had. Even with Lorenzen/Stro out, we had that game in control last night, and just blew it. That's about the worst J-Will has played since he got here - or since Hubie was coach. Face it, J-Will does not wanna get hit. He has more talent than Jason Kidd and Steve Nash, but they're better because they'll take the punishment. He can beat ANYONE off the dribble, but he'd rather jack up 3's, and make highlight reel dimes. Earl played like shit, too - even said blame him for the loss. Hey, Lenard, Boykins and Andre Miller beat us last night...that's pathetic.

As for Pau, he is what he is, a slightly taller Keith Van Horn. He's not gonna take us anywhere but to the middle of the pack, maybe an 8th seed at best. I HATE his court disposition, and his body language - (Dude, can you at least jog down court without the limp wrists? Make a fist for chrissakes). Still, I think this year you take him. Remember Sherm, I said last summer that Pau's trade value would never be higher, and you said NO WAY, you never trade someone with great hands who's so tall, and can finish on the break. Now you wanna trade him, when we're in the playoff hunt? I say leave this team alone unless you get bowled over by some ridiculous deal (ala Person for Bonzi). Hopefully, some sucker will part with a good big man for him.

It all comes down to style of play (Hubie-speak), do we part with our "soft" playmakers (J-Will, and Pau) for some boring guy who'll give ya 20-10 a night. A la Elton Brand...?

2 things changed, jug! 1 is that Posey turned into the yeoman stud we needed--giving the Grizz a quick, mobile, great shooting, well-rounded,defensive-minded TEAM with no real stars or major holes. 2 is that Pau has regressed, even more, from his rookie season when he surprised everyone on the upside. Last year, everyone figured him out and outmuscled his ass. This year, when he should have come back stronger & wiser, he came back weaker and more befuddled that the refs won't give him star calls. What is stupid puzzling is that POW doesn't realize that every ref in the league thinks he is a joke and won't give him any calls on offense.

So, with that in mind, yes, I'll take Elton Brand or Elton John for POW. At least the music at the Pyramid would be better.

missed the game last night, but saw the result. Wha happen?
eric o

it was 5 on 8 out there... refs completely lost control of the game and started handing out technicals in the 2nd quarter. Peja bumps a ref arguing a call and doesn't get thrown out. Bonzi whines after a call and gets a T. Posey makes a clean block on a layup that the officials say was off the backboard- score 2 more for the Kings. Officials were horrible.

but still, the kings didn't lead until deep in the 3rd quarter. We made them look horrible in the 1st half.

grizz had some great stuff, got tired in the 3rd, started slipping, then came back. brad "boo hoo" miller couldn't stop pau going to the hoop. mike bibby hardly played despite Jason's Matador defense. finally, realizing they couldn't go inside, the kings made 7 3 pointers in the fourth quarter and took it.

so, up by 17 or whatever, already with his all-time highest points total, peja gets the ball with 11 seconds left. Poier: "All right, the classy thing to do here is just dribble out the game..." which it turns out is what Adelman had told the Kings to do. but Peja was mad because Posey was "touching him" earlier in the game and annoying him. Posey (wrongly) got a technical foul for touching Peja- it may have been a foul, but it wasn't a technical. anyway, with the game already over, Peja goes at Posey, Posey grabs him and throws him down. gets ejected, and Poier says "I don't blame him. I would have done the same thing myself!" Wouldn't it have been horrible if their superstar had gotten hurt when the game was already won? wouldn't the coach care more about a star than that? or maybe they were scared the grizz were still going to come back? Props to Memphis.

Peja gets the takedown

now Doug "Toenails" Christie claims the Grizz have a chip on our shoulder... ha.

right... how do you get suspended for a game but get to finish the one you're in?

Jughead
Posted: Dec 27, 2003 2:52 am

Here's what pisses me off about suspensions: they rarely help the "offended" team. In this case, it fucked us doubly. Peja doesn't play against the Mavs, our division rival, and the Mavs win. Thanks, NBA! Grizz had a tough Xmas, Rockets beat the Lakers, too...

In a perfect world, Peja would be suspended the next time we play them...

Grizz blow another one tonight. What's our record since J-Will came back, 0-5? What's happened to Mike Miller? 13 minutes, zero points! Bonzi takes more shots than Miller, Posey and Battier combined, and makes less. When's the last time we scored on a fast break? When's the last time Pau made two free throws in a row?

Battier's the only player on the team who consistently produces every game. How does he not rate more than 20-25 minutes?

Mavs are gonna kill us tomorrow night...

man that was depressing. we finally got tons of offensive rebounds- because we were shooting around 29%!

battier's the one. lorenzen was off. jason had his moments, but damn, we might as well pull up on all our fast breaks and run half court. all we do is throw the ball away.

No love for Earl: don't like to see him whining about playing time, especially after one game, but he's gotta case. Bonzi's been here a month, and Hubie let's him play/do as much as he wants. Earl's been busting his ass for his whole career and gets benched?
