I know you're gettin' pumped but "rule the West"??? C'mon now bro.

Don't be a hater! Grizz are in 2nd right now (tie, but still...)

we're at 500!

I'll never hate on the Grizz, mark my words.

I just wanna see more---got my skeptic glasses on.

Hey, we're at .500 too!!! YEEHA!

and humiliate hobbled spurs to go 2-1.

great that popovich got tossed. has he completed a game on the bench in memphis?

Posted: Nov 4, 2003 8:17 am
Great news, Grizzwold collectors. The new 3-d souvenir cups are the best Grizzly collectible since the elvis bobblehead. I think it's the 2 dudes from outkast on the cup with a guy who looks kinda like Battier if he had a beard. No word yet on how it holds up in the dishwasher.

Did anyone check Gasol's passport at the airport? I don't think he's back in the U.S. yet.

Posted: Nov 4, 2003 8:29 pm
PLEASE come kick our ass tomorrow night at the Rose Garden.

That game last night with Philly was THE WORST I had seen in awhile and I had $110 seats!!! People were screaming "YOU BUMS!!!" and the Blazers were yelling insults back at us. Screw them. The only positives were Qyntel (I gave him a "South Memphis!" shoutout and he made his 2nd free throw) and Zach Randolph every once in awhile.

Kill em Grizz. They need more shame.

Posted: Nov 4, 2003 9:48 pm
Grizz still tied for 2nd in the Midwest - bball's best division! Beatin' the champs was sweet, even without Duncan, who only abused us for all of 7 minutes, thank God!
I'll give Pau a couple more games to wake-up, but if he's still suckin', stick him on the bench and give Big Jake a try...What the fuck is Pau thinking with those crazy passes to a triple-teamed Stro under the hoop? I'd say Pau has regressed, but I can't remember when he's ever looked THIS bad...
Posted: Nov 4, 2003 9:52 pm
That was the WORST I've ever seen him. He looked like a high school player going against the big boys. I thought he was supposed to have improved over the summer? His rookie season he schooled players better than the Spurs...
Posted: Nov 4, 2003 9:55 pm
isn't his contract up after this year? shouldn't he be doin' like Stro & playing for real this season???
Posted: Nov 4, 2003 10:53 pm
If Pau's the clod you say he is, he'll look perfect next to Derek Anderson, Damon Stoudamire and the new white Eastern Euro center they are trying to pull over on us as a new Sabas (oh god).

I'm telling you, the Grizz are going to look stellar tomorrow night.

Miller has lost weight, especially since his college days, and he just exploded to the hoop on that breakaway.

My Nuggets are 2-1 too and also beat the Spurs. What's going on?

Posted: Nov 5, 2003 9:29 pm
Big early road trip for the Grizz starts tonite! Portland, Phoenix, and Utah, all teams that the Grizz can beat - although probably more realistic to settle for a 1-2 trip...

Fiery, are you going to the game? We're you the fan that Bonzi flipped off? What's with him? Is 'Sheed rubbin' off on him too much? I always liked Bonzi's game - he torches us every time he plays us.

Posted: Nov 5, 2003 9:40 pm
Well, I expected this but I haven't had it confirmed yet til today by sports uniform guru & consumer products advocate Paul Lukas: I expect all Grizz logos will be gone next year.

I for one am ecstatic about that. What a stupid nomenclature for a dirty south team! Plus it gives heisley 3 years of unloading grizz junk before coming up with a new look (please no dallas mavs jersey makeovers!) I fully expect "name the new team contests" to go with the new Forum. Let's exploit this city properly: Thugs, Car Jackers, Car Choppers, Playas, Cruisers, or the Memphis Gold Chains. Please no Chicks or Egyptian themes! I do like Express or Jets but the nba has nixed any corporate tie-in at all, which is pretty preposterous given today's in your face sports market. If we do have to stick with a former football team name, let's at least be the Showboats. GO 'Boats! At least there's a water reference in there.

You can check out Lukas' column moving here soon: http://slate.msn.com//

Posted: Nov 5, 2003 9:56 pm
One other funny thing: If grizz win tonite & Dallas & Utah lose, Grizz are tied for 1st place at least for a day.
Posted: Nov 5, 2003 10:50 pm
Wha? It was my understanding that the Grizz was the name for good. I highly doubt this info, but if it is true, then HALLELUJAH!

My all-time fave was Mick Walker's idea: Memphis Mummies. I know, an Egyptian idea, but can you imagine the unis? Kids would eat that shit up! Plus, Big Jake in a Mummies uniform would be truly scary...MWAHAHA....

Memphis Grills or

you've got the platinum teef/barbecue all tied up in one

Posted: Nov 6, 2003 1:23 am
As far as I know, I don't have tickets for tonight, but I didn't find out I had 4 tickets for the Philly game until 3 hrs before tip off!

Nah, Bonz loves me, he'd never do that. In fact, he didn't look as bad as some out there that night. He is, however, a total crybaby and was also throwing towels and water bottles onto the court. Watch his face tonight when he gets a "bad" call or hit just a lil too hard. I personally think his temper is cute.

Posted: Nov 6, 2003 1:24 am
How do you post a photo? I have one of me & Bonzi that is adorable.
Posted: Nov 6, 2003 12:56 pm

Sorry dudes.

Posted: Nov 6, 2003 5:27 pm
I think Pal Gasigh finally figured out where he wants to play last night, out at the the 3-point line ala Dirk Nowitzki. At least he made a couple...

You guys beat us by 6, and you got up by 6 in the first 3 minutes of the game. Our "starters" finally woke up in the 2nd half, but you guys basically had the game won by the end of the 1st quarter. Miller and Gasigh got 19 apiece, but Wells and Randolph completely destroyed them as far as I'm concerned...

Posted: Nov 6, 2003 6:48 pm
That wuz more like a 20 pt. blowout than a 6 pt. loss. Grizz shooting awol.
Posted: Nov 6, 2003 6:56 pm
I saw the first quarter and 1/2 and felt like we could hold you if Bonz and Z Bo kept up the ferocity...which they did.

However, those are also the types of games the Blazers love to choke on...so I am happy we (PDX) won at all.

What's going on with the Spurs is the same thing that's going on with the Mavericks...they're basically a brand new team and are still adjusting....The Spurs have just barely one evergame I've seen this season.

The Lakers have adjusted the best because they got oldschool ballersfuture hall of famers, new to thier ranks....

I new that the Grizz got some good rookie...I swear...and also some notable older guy...I'd like to see the Rockets do good thow...I'd be the biggest Grizz fan if I lived in Mem....another week and a half they take on the Mavs.

Is COUNTRY RUBES too many sylables for a sports team?
Posted: Nov 7, 2003 3:22 am
I like Country Rubes. Of course, most people already think Memphis is country music mistaking Memphis for Nashville. I get that shit a lot. "Oh, you're from Memphis? You must have great country music?" Uh, yeah, it's only 200 miles away and it's really not that great since oh 1969 or so...Mummies wouldn't work too well outside the Pyramid, would it? I might change my Gold Chains (too '80s?) name to Gold Teeth. Anyway, anything's better than the Grizzlies--possibly excepting TAMS (Tennessee-Arkansas-Mississippi). I wish Stax had gone through with the purchase of the ABA team (one of Al Bell's brainstorms in '73). Had they not run out of money that would have been the funky shit! Soul music, disco, & redwhiteblue afros! Now the Stax Museum owners own an NBA team--how ironic!
moody prick
Posted: Nov 7, 2003 3:46 am
Memphis Train,
and the team is going to have to wear Rufus Thomas' shorts outfits, preferably those sparkly getups. Sherman, I think they could still work the redwhiteblue afros.
eric o
Posted: Nov 7, 2003 7:32 am
yeah, it was a 6 point blowout. hubie kept pushing and the blazers had their starters in there at the end. it's a loss, but you can hear it on sportscenter, "the blazers, who lead by 30, win by 6." it's a good way to go- good practice, and never give up. and never let the other team cruise while they beat you in the 4th quarter.

plus, we SUCKED. and we still had a chance at the end. overall, not bad.

and let pau shoot that 3!

Posted: Nov 7, 2003 8:37 am
Ah yes. Well anyways.

Hornets killed sixers in philly last nite in OT. And Mashburn has and will be out at for five weeks. Iverson tossed many donuts late in the game. BD had 5 threes, w/37 total pts.

Lakers go down tomorrow. Fab four blow

We just cauterized the Lakers and killed their undefeated streak...114 to 95!

don't care for the hornays, but yeah, i like how the lakers were tired from their double overtime squeaker over the (grizz-defeated, injured) spurs.

so maybe getting a coupla old-timers might not be the best idea when you gotta play that many minutes in the NBA?

grizz were tired from sucking so hard against portland. come on. what happened to our dominance in the west?

kevin e
Posted: Nov 8, 2003 8:45 pm
Hornets are good. I've always liked watching the Baron play. It's a great luxury to have Armstrong as a back up point guard. Magic were stupid letting him go. I'm temporarily jumping off their bandwagon and riding with the Nuggets this season.
Posted: Nov 8, 2003 11:13 pm
Thank YOU, Eric!!!!! I love how the second the Lakers lose ESPN.com slaps up the "road weary Lakers" tag. Try rape case-egomaniac rambling-ego clashing weary Lakers. Go Hornets, you bad ass MFs!

Please tell me college hoops starts SOON.

Posted: Nov 8, 2003 11:45 pm
Grizzlies playing about as bad as "pros" can play. 3 rebounds from our starting front line in a whole game! We missed 23 3's! Efforts like these got Sidney Lowe shitcanned last year. Bring in Big Jake, Dahntay, and Theron - let Pau, Stro, Miller, Wesley and J-Will sit...

Nice new fan forum! But I'll keep my slandering on the goner site! I may have jumped the gun on Lukas' message about the Grizz new name. He said that they'd have new logos. I interpreted that to mean there'd be a new name too. I still hope they do change names, but now I'm not as for sure. Go Memphis Train and Jump Back '75! P.S. I'm predicting a win for the Grizzwolds tonite. 1) They always play well at home against the Lakers 2) They always play well after getting their asses smoked on the road 3) They always play well when you're about to give up on 'em and...4) somebody's got to hit a shot eventually (don't they?)

SportsCenter described them as the "road-weary Lakers" last night. What a slight!
Posted: Nov 11, 2003 9:32 pm
To me, Posey and Big Jake were the difference last night. Thanks Jerry!

Now go beat the Magic, Grizz!!!

Posted: Nov 11, 2003 9:48 pm
ESPN needs to step off with the "road weary Lakers"...one second they are stacked more than anyone by far, but the second they slip, they get the "road weary" halo. Bitches.
Posted: Nov 12, 2003 12:07 am
what's all this about the grizz trying to recruit kobe bryant if (when) he leaves the lakers?

Still think J-WiLL is worthless S-WiLL?
Posted: Nov 12, 2003 7:01 am
While I preferred his bad tattoo/neo-Nazi hair style of yesteryear over his current Monks tribute 'do (not a good hair year, JWill), his on court play has improved vastly since the awful beginning of last season. I still cannot fathom how a young man pulling down 7 mil $ per year to play b-ball cannot hit more shots per shot taken than he does (currently around 37%--about what he did last year). Bo Outlaw has a much better percentage than your beloved betrothed.

Overall I will take the faster, better defender, shooter, and overall player Earl the Pearl if I were calling the shots. I hope jwill keeps playing well as he would make great trade bait with Stro for someone you could count on more than 1 outta every 3 games.

Posted: Nov 12, 2003 9:25 pm
I suspect Earl will get a shot with the starters at some point. I agree he's a far better defender, and a marginally better shooter (who cares if J-Will's a 37% shooter when he takes less than 10 shots a game? Even if he were shooting 45% thats like 2 points a game!), but Earl's much worse at running the break, and J-Will's a far better passer.

Keep J-Will and trade Stro for another big thug...

Good win, Grizz!

How about this trade:
Stromile Swiftguy, Wesley Person
Penny, Scott Williams, Cezary Trybanki (or some other throw-in)

Our 2nd unit would look like so:

2/5ths the way to the All-Memphis backcourt. Asses in seats, Jerry!

kevin e
Posted: Nov 13, 2003 9:30 am
Magic are terrible this season.

I know Penny's from Memphis. Who else is?

eric o
Posted: Nov 13, 2003 9:42 am
bring back Socks!
Posted: Nov 13, 2003 10:11 am
Penny for Person? Stro for Williams? I'll keep my ass at home for sure! I don't wanna see Penny whine any more. He was whining before the young turks were blowing by him. He's gonna whine a lot more now that he's so slow.

Socks, yes! Penny, no! At least stro can throw one down & get the crowd going occasionally.

Posted: Nov 14, 2003 3:10 am
I highly doubt Stro and/or Wesley will be on the team come trading deadline. Now, I don't base this trade on the fact that Wesley has totally lost his game so far in the young season; he'll find it eventually. I base this trade on the fact that Earl is still learning how to run a squad, and he's not the best at setting up his teammates (see last night's game for any question on that). Penny is a playmaker, why do you think he still gets minutes in Phoenix? They don't have anyone his size that can pass! He would do wonders for Earl's game, plus he can hit an occasional 3, and he's a much better team defender than he's given credit for. Ask the Spurs if they still think he can play. Throw in the fact that Lorenzen and Bo both train with Penny in the off-season! Anyway, Wesley's a one-dimensional player, and Shane has proven that he's practically as good a 3-point shooter. So, I might rethink the Stro part of the equation, but if it were just Wesley for Penny, I'd make that trade in a second...

Plus, Sherm, you're nuts if you think Penny wouldn't draw fans in Memphis. They're really beating the door down to see the wake-up Stro show...

Posted: Nov 14, 2003 3:18 am
Let's bring Dana Kirk back to fill the seats too while we're at it--another hometown hero who will really add to the bottom line! You're double nutz! Give Lil Penny a free handicap seat at the Forum when he retires after this season, but don't force an old nag on us just cause that's been your 3 year fantasy...
Posted: Nov 14, 2003 3:57 am
And Jack Eaton - great Caesar's ghost. Team him up with Poier rather than that Sean Phooey!

Kevin, here's some more Memphis almost-greats:
Elliot Perry, Cedric Henderson, Kelly Wise, Chris Massie, Sylvester Gray, Andre Turnover, Keith Lee, William Bedford, Bobby Parks, Otis Jackson, Doom Haynes, uuhhh... I'll let Sherm take over the 70's, that was when he was in his prime...

eric o
Posted: Nov 14, 2003 4:32 am
Sean Phooey is bland enough to not get in the great Poier's way... Eaton's always saying something or other. and trying to make really stupid rhymes.

hey kev - the other 1/5th in Jared's equation is Lorenzen Wright. Ren is king at the pyramid for sure. I love him, but I'm not interested in Penny, sorry Jared. I don't know what his contract situation is but it can't be as good as wesley - he is off the books next year I think. And who cares about a few more people coming - they wouldn't be coming for long - cuz he doesn't mean we win any more. Winning is the best way to put people in the seats. Let wes keep spotting up - those shots will go in. He did the same thing last year - then damn near lead the league in 3pt%.

.500 - now bring on the Mavs. too many cooks in the kitchen.

Posted: Nov 14, 2003 7:38 pm
Oh, all right! All you Penny-haters win. I still think Wes is gone one way or another this year. He does come off the books, so his contract looks mighty good to alot of teams. I see Jerry packaging him with Slomile for somebody if we are to do any trading. If not they'll keep him around the rest of the year, hope he can find his shot, and then take his contract number and go after an all-star free agent (read: Kobe or T-Mac). Here's yer cue, Sherm...
kevin e
Posted: Nov 14, 2003 8:04 pm
Andre Turnover!!! I've followed the Magic for a long time and Penny is a good player but he needs at least three go-to guys ahead of him so he doesn't feel too much pressure. Was Stro #3 overall pick? Good thing that wasn't on West's watch. Not that his recent drafts have made much sense. Gooden was questionable and Bell and Jones this year didn't necessitate a trade for any reason I can think of.
Posted: Nov 15, 2003 1:12 am
In West's defense, I think he does a lot of deals to obfuscate what he really wants and he hasn't really had much draft to work with. Maybe he really wanted Miller (great trade) but he had to take gooden & fuzzstache in the draft to get him. I'm sure now when West comes calling, g.m's get really nervous about who he is trying to cherry-pick from them. It's kinda like buying a record from Jerry at River Records: "Oh, you're innerested in buying that? It must be worth a lot more money now."
Posted: Nov 15, 2003 1:56 am
I think Stro was a #4 pick that has yet to pan. Face it, he's the 4th best "4" we have behind Pau, Ren, and Outlaw (and I consider all of them power forwards, regardless of whether they get stuck at center). Reminds me of the Gooden situation last year. Just a bad fit. And barring injury, Stro doesn't deserve playing time over any of them.
So...make a move Jerry! Get somebody who's gonna contribute, thug or not...

Man, I'd really like to see what Bell and Jones can do. If Earl and Wes keep playing bad, Hubie should give 'em a shot...

Posted: Nov 15, 2003 4:29 am
Earl is not playing bad! His defense has been excellent.
Posted: Nov 15, 2003 5:11 pm
Last 5 games for Earl:
8-32 shooting = 25%
17 assists = 3.4 per game
12 turnovers = 2.4 per game

This to go along with 3 STEALS TOTAL, and 2 made free throws TOTAL.

Posted: Nov 15, 2003 7:41 pm
He's not shooting well. That will improve. His defense has been great. How many assists is he supposed to get as a back-up point guard in 17 minutes?

Let's take this outside, punk!

Posted: Nov 15, 2003 8:58 pm
Waaaah! You've been screaming for J-Will's head forever, but when your boy can't stack up, now you're asking for patience. Hey, I LOVE Earl, he's one of my favorite Grizz, but I'd bet he's be the first to admit he hasn't been running that second unit too well lately. Yeah, he's a great defender, but how can we convert when he gives it right back?

Bring it on!

I've been watching Miller since he was a freshman and he's been playing out of his mind lately. He's in the best shape of his life and playing very agressive. I haven't seen any complete Grizz games this year but the highlights have shown him going off.

Met a hoops fan, pooled our cash, got cable at my place.

Grizz here I come! When's the next ESPN/ESPN2 game?

Posted: Nov 17, 2003 8:59 pm
Grizz play Detroit on Espn this Wednesday, I think...

Big win Sunday! Missed the whole 4th quarter and the big comeback, but I'm told Grizz played great. Earl Watson, I'm glad to say, looked the best I've seen him all year in his time in the 1st half. He and J-Will really controlled the game. I left just as Finley made about his 8th shot in a row - god, how did we beat them?!?

eric o
Posted: Nov 17, 2003 10:08 pm
well, we gave Dirk No Defence Nowitzki 9 stitches, we took wesley off of Finley (he was gettin torched), we mugged 'em and they coughed up the ball and then Mr Brick all night, Antoine Walker, hits a lucky 3 at the buzzer to tie.

So mike miller goes out and destroys their defence, jason attacks and Allas panics whenever someone drives the lane, and posey won't let anyone on their team get the ball. that'll do it.

"big comeback" (i don't think we were ever down by more than like 8) was also helped by Shawn Badly's 18 foot air ball "jumpshot"- how could you have missed that?- that lead to two straight j-will-to-posey layups to bring us within 1. Nice.

yeah now the Grizz have beat all the best....I'm just wondering if thier that good, or is it the power of the fans!

I don't got to say it, but they're doing fuckin great...a birdie told me they sucked, and that birdie must have been wrong.

As far as the Mavs go, leave it to Shawn Bradley, he's the one player me and the rest of Dallas, realy wanted traded last season.

I'm gonna get digital cable, just for the NBA Channel...cuz I don't want to miss any of this shit...Grizz are on the rise.

The Grizz need Toni Kukoc...the man is a GOD.
Posted: Nov 18, 2003 11:52 pm
Speaking of Kutot, i hope to not hear one more time that Kobe might be coming here next year. The new forum is not big enough to hold his ego, if he's not in the slammer and if he beats this charge, his ego is gonna go even higher.

Anyway, checked with my logo source again & I stand by my contention of a new name next season. Maybe we can trade names with Utah? At least we'd both be closer to reality...

I must be getting old! I don't get any humor from antigravity (and if it's not funny? what's the point??) Look up "Bad Dog" in the dictionary under unfunny, dude, cuz that's where you are...

Anyway, gotta make this quick--I've got chicken on the grill: Tonight--pistons all fired up & tired up from beating the lakers. Plus they had to fly northworst with bad food at detroit airport & worse service on the flight--so they are already agitated before.. having to wait 20 minutes for a cab at the memphis airport. Grizz coming off their best game in Memphis nba history--person (finally)goes wild for at least 15 & grizz pull out a close one in a hard fought battle.

Maybe we don't need to move east?

eric o

I don't know how many of you check out NBA.Com...but as off like 2 days ago, they were on the main page, under Teams to Look Out For...and up and comers or whatever.....it'll be exiting.

Uh, I had to sit in a nice cozy room and catch shit for 4 quarters from some smartass from Michigan who decided I was representin' the Grizz whilst he was a Piston. The coziness turned to frost, boys. Shoulda taken it home, Pau and Miller et al.

HORNETS VS. GRIZZ: The dance teams.

we've got the sorority slut image going for us, you've got the guitars and the black outfits.. hmmmmmm. it's hard to say which squad I hate more, but I think the honeybees are better lookin on average than the grizzlettes. Also: pistons fans, prepare to lose to our 9-3 bees on sunday.

While I must say I'm not much of a fan of cheerleaders in pro sports (give me a good kgb chicken any day!), the only thing worse than having male nba cheerleaders is the redbirds having cheerleaders for baseball. Do any of these people get paid? If so, fire 'em all and give all the fans a free bbq sandwich with the savings.

Oh man, both "squads" absolutely SLAY the Blazer Dancers.

But when the WNBA Fire were here, they had middle school aged kids get out there and do it up...it rocked. They all wore Baby Phat and Phat Farm.
