insert bank robbing joke here! ha ha!
Posted: Apr 16, 2010 4:06 pm

......and while racing away from the crime scene the 1st bank robber angrily said to the 2nd "so what the hell went on in there any way?" and and the 2nd bank robber pantingly choked out "what do you mean? I followed the plan exactly", and the 1st bank robber replied "No you IDIOT! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO TIE UP THE GUARD, AND BLOW THE SAFE!!!"

At least come meet Ryan Sweeney, the Tim Tebow of rock-n-roll.

I can't get my mind around this. What does this mean?

Is Ryan a nice, Christian rock-n-roller? Does he have Bible verses tattooed on him?

Is Ryan a guitar player with bad playing mechanics?

Is Ryan a drummer who is going to have to switch to bass in order to succeed in rock-n-roll?

robin says yes to 5pm and he don't mess around.

i think the alex musical memorial could definitely use richwad's banjitar version of "The Letter."

Pendletons show last night went fabulously, thanks to Buck Wilders for the DJ action and good sound. Cookout area is covered so we should have some vittles early on. Come on out!

I want to record this! Instead of the plane sound you should use a train wreck.

Last night went great!
P.A. advice: I'd bring some extra mic cables. I'd also just chain the monitors off the main speakers and skip using the monitor sends. The sends didn't seem to get very loud. If someone mic'd the kick drum in there, it would add a lot. Good luck and protect my long rca dj cable please!

just found my phone, so can call the night a total SUCCESS!

VIPs
-DJ Vile for crankin' out the tunes without a stop!
-Aussie Chris for rulin' the grill
-Old Guy With Dog for being the only regular to stick around after the onslaught (and for being #1 pick if anyone is casting "old timey country coot" for a movie in town.... Kentucker? Craig?)
-Weather for being GREAT
-all folks who came out
-Poplar Lounge crew for putting up with drunken buffoonery
-Jimmy B's kids for showing old-timers how to toss washers
-Dirty Knees & Burning Itch for stepping in and ruling it from Knoxville
-... and BURNING SANDS! WHOAH!
(apologies to Girls of the Grav... don't remember what happened there at the end. post TSOT details fuzzy.)

Jay would be proud. Need to make sure he gets a headstone soon. Happy birthday.

Hope the Chiltonians had a good one, too! Report?

Thirding the good fuckin time. Burning Sands are my new favorite band. The dudes from Knoxville were awesome. All the bands were great!
Left the Lounge and went to check out the end of the Chilton tribute. Big Tard killed it by covering songs that Alex covered. Sugar Sugar was off the hook.
Everyone there said it was a great time, all performances were good and that Harris did a fantastic job of organizing it all.
Posted: May 2, 2010 2:44 pm

HOSOI BROS- DAMN!!!

Went great!
Wish I could'a stuck around for the rest of Jay Day, but I guess Chilton deserves some tribute too.

Big Tard ("a simultaneous tribute to Alex Chilton and Jay Reatard") killed it
Adam Woodard was smokin'!!

Every band Adam played with at The Chilton fest was amazing...but Ten High and The Trashed Romeos KILLED it! JD Reagers band was great too!
All in all it was a fun night and Harris did a great job of putting this on...his band was great too!

Goner staff...I hope you are seriously considering moving the daytime shows of Gonerfest to the Poplar Lounge...inside stage, an outdoor stage in the big outside area, bbq at the little outside area...and a straight shot up Poplar to the Hi Tone for the night shows...its perfect
Posted: May 4, 2010 10:10 am

um... not perfect. both friday's pendletons show and saturday's show ended pretty messy for no real reason.

space is great, steve's great, but it's still the poplar lounge.

murphy's has always delivered above and beyond on the day show action.

not set in stone, but just sayin'.

haha "everybody get the fuck out" ...the perfect way to end a show

super bummed i didn't get to this. did get to play with those knoxville bands the night before at the bucc- they were great, and fun peeps too. more poplar lounge action soon? it's like murphy's without the gay, and better sound. they must pay their sound guy really well (ha)

Oh, well I definitely would not have punched you Miz Simpson. Apology accepted. I might kick you in the cooter though! Watch out!
Posted: May 5, 2010 3:26 pm

the giant bearded doorguy unplugged richard's triple encore boxtops cover then walked around kicking people out. when the bartenders told him they didnt need to close at 1230, he threatened to kick them out. due to swimmingpool on the stage and god of thunder throwing folks out, gravitron decided it was probably good idea to not play. good night either way.

"everybody get the fuck out"
What bar hasn't said this at one point?
Bar told me they were worried about the storm, the ceiling, and the bands getting electrocuted. A place hangin' on a thread probably isn't looking for a lawsuit. That was also the most folks that place has seen in a while... they were probably a little over overwhelmed. They did enjoy Miss Linda's new decorations though!
Posted: May 5, 2010 4:47 pm

from what bartender steve said, they hells angel lookin dude who kicked everyone out was a self appointed door guy. Apparently the bartenders didnt want that to happen, but who cares. The show was great, and I think Poplar Lounge is a great alternate venue for smaller shows.

That dude added to the ambiance of the place. Like he just walked out the star wars cantina. "My friend doesn't like you, I don't like you either."

Some drunk chick needs to go home with the bouncer and take one for the team. If he thinks that he can continue to score young drunk poon by letting the bar stay open later...

That's pretty fucked up. So, this dude killed the night 2.5 hours early and no one said anything to him? Must have been a huge motherfucker.
Posted: May 6, 2010 5:04 pm

Must have been a huge motherfucker.

Maybe it was the mechanic's sized adjustable wrench hanging from his belt
Posted: May 6, 2010 5:19 pm

we had also been going since 4pm. but if i was the bar, i'd say let the people drink!
Posted: May 7, 2010 1:25 am

Posted: May 7, 2010 1:57 pm

Maybe it was the mechanic's sized adjustable wrench hanging from his belt

That would do it.
I still think the bar going along with this dude and his decision is kinda shitty. If I were the bartender, I would have been pissed.

I don't think Vinyl Ritchie was seriously considering attending the day shows of Gonerfest this year no matter where they are.

This idea was before Bouncergate...it just seemed like a great place logistically for it...just thinking out loud.
