Goner Message Board / Memphis / Tigers join little sisters of the poor
Posted: Sep 19, 2003 6:39 pm

Vegas now taking odds on how long Cal sticks around...

This smacks of more of Memphis' Little Man Complex...let's bring back the Metro Conference and be done with it.

I know I am over-simplifying it, but hey, at least you have a respectable college hoops team in your town!!! Portland has Division II or maybe it is Division 500 for all I know...and look at the Blazers? How sad is that? You guys have the classier-every-year Griz!

Don't cry Mem.

How bout a new conference called the Big 3? Featuring CBU, Rhodes, and Tiger High? I know this will never float with Tiger boosters cause what happens when they have their typical every game breakdown and lose to CBU???

P.S. Anything that sends Cal and his pink house packing is good for Memphismstake.

AGREED (re: Cal).

Who would you guys like as a coach instead?

Posted: Sep 20, 2003 1:26 am
Gene Bartow would be cool. He's just hangin' out cashing a check from the Griz or sports authority or somebody loaded.

Bedford would be a great coach since he knows all the ways to scam a jag from an alumni.

You could do worse than Hammerin' Hank McDowell, pool cleaner turned color analyst.

I'm not cryin', but I'm not laughing either. We belong in the SEC more than the Big East anyway. But the SEC is an even longer shot. All of those schools recruit heavily in Memphis already, there's no way they'd want more competition out of here. Besides, what can we really offer that they don't already have? A commuter school with a delapidated off-campus stadium? No thanks...but, uhh we'll pay you for the privelege of kicking yer ass in football every year (last week's Ole Miss debacle notwithstanding - hey, we gotta let ya beat us 1 out of 10)...

How R.C. Johnson still has a job today is beyond me.

How 'bout Sox Perry for coach?

Posted: Sep 20, 2003 2:14 am
Sox would be great! I forgot about him. Local boy done good!

In the immortal words of Charles Barkley, R.C. Johnson must have naked pictures of every member of the board of u. of m. with hookers...He is so memphis circa 1974.

Sir Charles SAID THAT??!?!?!? I adore that idiot.

He also said my fave when asked what he thought of Rasheed Wallace: "Well...'Sheed...He a knucklehead."

Who is Sox?

Posted: Sep 20, 2003 2:53 am
Sox is Elliot Perry, who wore his sox up past his knees for the suns.

I'm paraphrasing what Barkley said about Jerry Krause having pictures of Jerry the owner of the bulls naked with monkeys or something like that...finally fired this past offseason and replaced by John Paxton, I think.

Why not Sox Perry indeed!

OK, OK, well, it wouldn't surprise me if Sir Charles starts yappin about the Tigers "situation" eventually.

And Jughead, I hear you about the sad state of the SEC sniping our kids...especially places like UTK, I mean, there should be NO connection between Knoxville's athletic dept and any high school in the area. Has Florida ever stolen a Memphis kid? I hate Florida almost as much as Duke.

Only Fla ties I know of are J-Will and Mike Miller. Man, with the Duke boys Shane and Dahntay, you must really hate us...

Most of the SEC raiding comes from nearby schools: UT, Ole Miss, Miss. St., Arkansas (Memphis is literally the epicenter of these 4 schools). And Alabama's "buying" of Albert Means (now a Tiger) almost brought the whole program down...

Nah, I decided to like the Griz from day one--it's my hometown, I gotta!

But Shane is actually an alien...has he gotten wise and let his hair grow over his ridged skull?

Natch Mike Miller & J Wil are sometimes hated in my nation. But I can also forgive them as I knew them more as Magic & Kings than that horror based in Gainesville.

Yeah, Shane really made a boner move this summer. He moved from the cool lofts downtown to Harbor Town! At least he's closer to the pyramid for a season...

yeah, here's memphis' "elite" housing downtown: Lofts in the train station (who wants to live on the train tracks?) or Harbor Town (right on a stinky swamp, next to chemical processing plant).

Shane for President. He's the greatest.

The MAC had a good day yesterday. Do they have any openings?

And how about those DAHLING lil row houses near Huling? Care to discuss who was thrown outta those for the Downtown dwellers?

I could not believe it when I saw those. It caused the same feeling for me that I had when I first saw all the remaining facades of the buildings on Beale and I knew it was doomed.
