Cameron Hinson is the gal in charge of this.
Might be at nocturnal, but pretty sure it may be at outdoor stage at murphys like GONER does it. Lots of bands and hopefully some surprises too.

TaintSkins,ManWithGun,Raid,Grifters are NOT playin. I already tried.
Maybe SnackCake would be down? Who knows...

AngerHead and Ross/Jeff ARE playin and thats good enough for me!

Can't wait!

I found an essay in Johnny Singer's old notebooks about the antenna. Pretty great, as it was written in about 1981 and name drops.
Would someone be interested in this? I could scan it and email it. It's cool because it's in his handwriting.

Hey Golightly, why not put one of your combos back together?

The Crime will prolly never do a reunion...for reasons best left off a message board.

The Everyday Parade cd will be in my hands by the end of the month...we are going to do a cd release party at Nocturnal/Antenna.

Two Way Radio do have antenna connection...i have to do some digging, but we did make the qualifications 1 of 2 things, you either are a band that played at antenna, or you were IN a band that played antenna...and they came up clean...dems the cyrteria...

Is False Facade really dead?
I LOVE that band....really wanna see them again...that would be such a shame.....

Nice article. One nitpick: Husker Du never played Memphis.
Posted: Aug 13, 2009 8:27 am

My absolute favorite thing about that article is the discovery that Steve McGehee was a head waiter for Friday's. I mean, OF COURSE he was! Love it! Did anyone read that article in Memphis Magazine about the old Overton Square and how the waiters at Fridays had groupies?
Posted: Aug 13, 2009 10:29 am

Errors in the article:It was Alex who threw the beer at Ross and was ejected from the Antenna, not the other way around. (Half that beer splattered me.) Alex took off like a turpintined dog when he hit the sidewalk, though no one was even mad at him. Also The Klitz never played The Antenna. Lesa had left town six months before it opened. The Klitz did play the prior incarnation called The Well several times. The Well wasn't even mentioned in the article and it was an important part of that era. Ross's Flyer article from years ago was a better history of that club. No one ever mentions the all pervasive Frayser aesthete that ruled- and made it way uncomfortable for many- the place . Nobody felt sentimental about glorified urinal till it was gone.

Posted: Aug 13, 2009 10:57 am

How about the Millington Punk Squid aesthete? I once adored one of these sad little sailors who ended up being a superrich poseur from ATL that went AWOL. His society parents called me and my parents asking if I knew where he was as if we were hiding the guy!

I don't know, I started feeling pretty sentimental about that place immediately. It was a massive part of my life and sense of self from 1984-1987.
Posted: Aug 13, 2009 11:33 am

The Crime's first show was opening for Neon Wheels at The Well.
Jackie was a sweet sweet lady...and she fell in love with us and let us play there a lot.
Posted: Aug 13, 2009 12:11 pm

Nice article. One nitpick: Husker Du never played Memphis.

No but Greg Norton's post-Husker band, Grey Area did play at the Antenna. Then he wisely chose to cook fish, instead of fronting a rock band.
Posted: Aug 14, 2009 11:12 am

Screw it! After reading the articles there is no way I'm missing this. I'm even hoping Bobby Saucier is there. No way to get there for tonight from Atlnata but damn it I'm not missing Neon Wheels. Monty is a God. Saispas, I remember that dude from Millington, do I remember you?
Posted: Aug 14, 2009 8:00 pm

Bobby S. was there this afternoon, and hugged me!
I could only be there a coupla hours this afternoon, but it was superfun. Lots of hugging going on. It's like the best class reunion ever!
Music was good, too. I saw Jeff and Ross, and the Snakehips. Also Mary Gore, who I hadn't seen in 15 years!
It's happening. And fun.

And, I saw dtrain!!!

Good times last night! Saw so many people I haven't seen in years...Impala rules!

Psyched for the Gamblers!

thank you, thank you, thank you! The best yet! This was spectacular! Next year????
Posted: Aug 18, 2009 1:23 pm

Rumpleforeskin The Well WAS mentioned in conjunction with the Klitz etc. Alex and Ross threw beers at each other (at least that\'s what Ross said into my recording device) but half the tale hit the cutting room floor.

Earles: Larry Nager\'s original article about the Antenna\'s closing noted Husker Du among the bands that played there and I found some confirmation on the web. Upon further inspection it appears to have been a mistake I perpetuated. May have been some side project though I have no recollection of Sugar playing there either.

the Gamblers opened for Grey Area and it was completely empty. Greg did not front the band though, he just played bass.
