Although it's not certain that they will stay closed, Fleming's was closed wednesday and store owners could not be reached for comment. The store filed for bancruptcy in 2001. Feming's, founded in 1946, was best known for the lovable moptop kids who starred in their commercials. A recent ad featured a mullet-headed redneck hillbilly who couldn't sing strumming a guitar. They will be missed.

There's a rumor that there was a SECOND Fleming commercial featuring the mulletted troubadour that got very little airplay. supposedly it featured, get this, two of them at the same time. Like the frank black video for "headache." Can anyone confirm the existence of this second commercial?

it could explain the company's bankruptcy. Mullet twin performers demand huge ammounts of money per appearance.

I have seen this commercial you speak of and, indeed, it was a very tramatic experience for me. For years, I have been plagued by Fleming's poor excuse for advertising. As a child, growing up in a small Arkansas town not too far from this bustling metropolis, I was exposed to the "moptop" kids. They have haunted me ever since. And, now, the latest ad campaign has brought back the childhood memories with a horrible veangence. Thank God they are no longer.

What !!!! For years I enjoyed seeing everyone in that family age, and I wondered what the mom looked like . I heard from friends that the kids were spoiled brats when they had to baby-sit, and when they were teenagers, their dad would let them have strippers/call girls over to party. When I saw the mullet guy, I was like "who's this new family member on the circuit". It baffles me if no one else was intrigued like me.

Never fear, our fine friends at Fleming will have a chance to continue setting the standard in local advertising....read on:

Fleming Fine Furniture plans to reopen its stores to sell its inventory next week.

Fleming filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and is trying to reorganize.

Fleming secured funds this week to re-open its four stores Friday, October 4th.

A letter sent to customers today apologizes for any inconvenience the closings caused.

The letter tells customers to call 767-6010 between 10 a-m and 5 p-m Tuesday through Thursday next week.

Fleming said DO NOT CALL the store where you purchased furniture, just call the Fleming representative at 767-6010.

As soon as your order comes in you will be called to pick it up at the warehouse and pay for the balance by cash or check if you have not been approved for financing.

Again, Fleming stores will re-open Friday, October 4th.

The one time I've been to the dog track, I saw Jim Fleming flanked by hussies in the third level "Members Only" lounge. When I was very young, I remember my mother muttering "That man is going to fat himself to death" following one of the commercials.
