Any good books (preferably fiction) seriously set in or about Memphis? I'm trying to find the local version of Confederacy of Dunces.

I imagine eric will eventually get around to writing that one. The only thing I can think of is A Summons to Memphis, which is set in the '40s around the area of Rhodes College. Not particularly funny, but it might give the flavor of the times? I don't know since I wasn't around, but it might amuse non-Memphians.

"It Came From Memphis" by Robert Gordon? Or is that one too obvious?

I haven't scored a copy yet, but it looks like Ace Atkins'-Dark End of The Street may be worth a read. The blurb makes reference to Elmore Leonard and Dennis Lehane. And his website sports a great photo taken at Wild Bill's (and other Memphiana)
Anybody ever read this guy?
