You know the video store across the street from Speaker Services on Madison- the one that makes people feel so uncomfortable that they spend less than ten seconds in there after being stared down when saying hi... The one that has the pool tables without holes... They have the neatest little sandwiches in the world-I am not sure what they are but they come on these little homade hogies that they bake fresh there-Yes there is a kitchen in there too! Go in and say two sandwiches(order two per person)veggietarian(I am not sure about the meat there-but there is no menu anyway) with extra hajlipenos. They are Soo good and only $1.75 each.

Yup, vietnamese sandwiches are great. Wash em down with a cup of condensed milk coffee that you could frost a cake with.

hey chuck, that's a great tip. will check it out.

now, what's up with all the viet video stores around? seems like there's too many per memphis' vietnamese population.

the korean stop & shop on summer has tons of dubbed videos in a back room. i asked 'em what they were one day and they said they were soap operas. i guess you can keep up with your "stories" that way.

there used to be a great indian grocery store out next to the wal-mart on american way that rented movies for a dollar each (dubs, but still...) i just don't get out there, never gave it a shot. anyone know if it's still there?

Yeah..that indian grocery store is out on american way. My mom rents movies from there, but now they have DVDs as well (with english subtitles) so you can actually see how bad the plots are...er...how bad the plot is. All of the movies seem to have the same basic plot: boy meets girl, they break into a bad song, they fall in love, another bad song, they almost break up, bad song, get back together, bad song. I actually saw one with a fight scene where the combatants actually stopped fighting to sing AND dance before continuing to annihilate eachother.

i picked up a copy of TELEPHONE that was pretty good (not from that store, from last chance records- some hipsters probably in sf have been taping weird japanese kiddie shows- the octopus wearing a bowler one is good, too-and selling dubs...)... this one was a bizarre love / crime musical drama... great moment when the woman singing steps underneath a waterfall inside a house and it doesn't change her vocals at all! nice stuff.
