Goner Message Board / Memphis / Milf and the Modifiers
Posted: Aug 6, 2007 2:08 pm

If I'm not mistaken, it was today 5 years ago that Milford left this mortal coil.

What a guy.

We've lost too many...

I can only have faith that the likes of Milf, my brother Jerry, Johnny Singer and Bobby Bowie are having a jam and laughing about the good times.

If Milford is there, they ARE laughing
Posted: Aug 6, 2007 6:25 pm

Amen to that!

Bob Holmes continues to be my hero.
Posted: Aug 6, 2007 8:00 pm

... just thinking about him.

Is he still @ Central BBQ?
Posted: Aug 6, 2007 8:20 pm

I think so - haven't seen him in a while. I played in bands with him when I was a teenager, and my dad was in the Modifiers for a while so I knew him even before that. But we haven't kept in touch the last few years.

Who is your Dad?

JP - used to do sound at the Antenna.

Bob 'Omes- that brings back some memories- We had a band called "The Whites" once- need to resurrect that name for a future project. Would love to hang with Bobby again...

I always thought it was Bob Ohms...like ohms...like this...

Bob taught me how to play bass. Ramones songs. Yes, I actually needed someone to teach me that.
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 2:54 am

He did have the good tones- bought my first good amp from him- one of his rejects, but with a few new tubes it rocked. He just wore it out..

Bob taught me how to play rock music with other people - wish he was still playing.
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 5:11 pm

wish he was still playing.

That brings up a good point...WHY is he NOT playing?
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 5:24 pm

I have asked the same question of myself and him a more than a few times . . . who wants to start a band?
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 5:26 pm

don't you have a beach to lay on or something?
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 5:34 pm

hey - does anybody know how to get in touch with Bob other than thru Central BBQ?

Who would have ever thought that the man who penned the immortal classic "Got No Phone" would be difficult to track down?
Posted: Aug 7, 2007 5:45 pm

Steve Parkinson was in a band/project with Bob several years back. He might know; I'll check.

Bob lives! He told me tell everyone interested that he died, went to hell, defeated Satan, and rose a few days later. Now he's back at Central.

If what I am reading here is correct about the demise of Milford T
I am truly bummed. I was the drummer for the Modifiers back in 1987-88
when Milf & Bob were out here in LA. We did a few gigs and thought we were gonna break out. We were recording at the time of the split (don't quite remember why we split). It happens.
To hear Milf and Bob harmonize was one of the best parts of playing with them. Bobs Guitar playing was great, an excellent blues rock guitarist. Milford was a fantastic front man. Did you know he was also an excellant Golfer? He taught me the nuances of the game.
I was listening to a 4-track recording today that we made during a rehearsal in Long Beach @ Alfalfa Studios. it was hot!
just a few of the songs we recorded were.
Pawn Shop Girl
Numbers Gonna Roll
Crime
No Phone

Neat Depression
If anyone has contact with Bob tell him Chuck said drop him a line. I'll send him a CD of the session.
The Bass player and myself were in band called "SUBURBAN LAWNS"

When I was putting together the my space for The Crime, I found a photo of the band and Milf in the dressing room at the Antenna...I've also got a cassette of him singing GLORIA with us at my last show with the band at The Antenna....he rocked.
The photo is on page two of My Photos

I remember those days, Chuck. In fact I worked the PA for one of your small gigs (at a community center in Hermosa). If you don't remember, it's not big deal, but you might. Bob and Milf almost always called me "The Hoove" (thus my username here).

I was really torn up when I read about Milf's passing (either on another forum or an older version of this - can't remember). The last time I was in LA was in '96 and I meant to look him up, but I could never seem to get a moment for myself. I missed a lot of friends on that trip. Damn it, I really loved Milf (snarky curmudgeon that he was).

Hey, I notice some other posts that Bob is (or was) "around" Central BBQ? Is that an eatery in Memphis? If someone knows his whereabouts, please tell him "The Hoove" - Mark Hoover - has been looking for him (damn it), and will not take "just tell him I'm dead" for an answer. Tell him I live in Japan now - that'll blow his mind, I'm sure.

Browbeat a mailing address out of him (if I know Bob, he doesn't have a telephone and almost certainly no internet), send the information to <groovin.hooves@gmail.com>
