Blind Mississippi Morris Blues Benefit Fundraiser sponsored by the Memphis Blues Society

When: Thursday, June 21, 8 p.m.- midnight

Where: Neil's Pub 1835 Madison Ave in Midtown (901)278-6345

Cost: FREE

(Donations will be accepted for the "Mississippi Morris Rescue Fund")

Blind Mississippi Morris is in need of help. His home has been deemed in violation of certain city codes and he received an eviction notice informing him that he has 30 days to get out. As noted by recent articles in The Commercial Appeal, a grassroots movement is brewing among local musicians, city leaders, and concerned citizens to help Mississippi Morris fix his home.

In an effort to raise funds for Morris and his family, the Memphis Blues Society will sponsor a full night of blues with performances by the Eric Hughes Band, Billy Gibson, The Memphis Blues Society All Star Band, Brad Webb and Blind Mississippi Morris, along with other surprise guests. An open jam session will conclude the show. In addition to accepting donations, the Mississippi Morris Rescue Fund will host a silent auction of musical instruments and blues memorabilia.

Morris "Blind Mississippi Morris" Cummings is a blues artist born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Cummings lost his sight at the age of four, but that didn't stop him from learning the blues. He's become a popular blues act on Beale Street. Morris and his band, the Pocket Rockets, are known as the "real deal from Beale". Morris has been called a new disciple of the Delta blues and was rated one of the 10 best harmonica players in the world by Bluzharp magazine. He's also a NARAS/ Recording Academy Premier Player Award winner for harmonica. He has performed with legendary artists B.B. King, Rufus Thomas, Muddy Waters, David Porter and many other Memphis artists.

Blind Mississippi Morris, a true Memphis musical treasure, needs your help! Please spread the word! Hope to see you at the show...
