Goner Message Board / Memphis / A Challenge for Rachel
Posted: May 9, 2006 4:38 pm
In the same spirit as the david blaine underwater breath holding attempt Im thinking that you should stick your head in the mens toilet at Murphys and try to hold your breath for 10 minutes.sounds like you had a gasp at music fest. for the sake of all of us please go back to wherever you came from and quit playing pretend writer/photographer/socialite.we dont really need you or your exceptionally trendy bandwagonesque taste in music.
Posted: May 9, 2006 4:50 pm
Well, now, that was just mean. Reporters have to start somewhere.

Get offa her back......what purpose does this anonymous post serve?
Posted: May 9, 2006 5:11 pm
I find favor with this admitted asexual's reporting from the front lines of the Memphis social scene. It's all about having FUN, you know. I suspect she is having more of it than someone slagging anonymously on a message board.

Villification via cowardice. I mean, it's one thing to call someone out, but to be intentionally hurtful and hide? Well, that's just petty. Sure. This is the internet, and message boards offer the anonymity, and no one should get hurt over stupid webshits, but this is pointed and personal.
At least I wear my hatred for dee under my same name.
Posted: May 9, 2006 6:34 pm
you're a virgin that lives in your parent's basement, aren't you?

you should kill yourself now and save some crackhead tranny the trouble.
Posted: May 9, 2006 7:04 pm

leave rachel alone. and i don't see how she is pretending to be a reporter when she actually does get her shit published. probably more than you do, mr./ms. anonymous poster.

While the rest of the mainstream media has ignored many of the "Goner Board" heroes, I've tried to use the contacts I have to help promote them. You probably don't know anything about that, and don't know anything about me.

I like a lot of different things, and I am not ashamed to admit them when ithey're not especially popular.

My website is and always has been a personal weblog about things that have to do with me. There are millions out there just like them. The only purpose it has other than archiving my personal life is to promote Memphis and all the things that I think are great about it. It's no secret to my personal friends the problems I have with certain music, people, parts of the government, the city, I'm no Pollyanna by any means. I would just rather participate in an intelligent discussion about these things than just bitch and rant in order to look cool.

It's so easy to tear things down, and so much harder trying to make something happen, which I will continue to do whether you see any relevence to it or not.

It's no secret to me that many people on this board may want to disassociate with me because of my lack of authenticated Goner coolness, I'm not an idiot. However, on a one-on-one basis, I have a pretty good repoire with most because for the most part I know what I am talking about and we all know that the internets is an act and not a true sum of who a person is.

I'm gonna give you the same benefit of the doubt.

Rachel...I've found that Goners are some of the geekiest and most "uncool" people on the planet. See? I said "on the planet"!

No frets. (Which is the cool way of saying "no worries").
Posted: May 9, 2006 11:17 pm
w-oh, you had my sympathy for about five minutes until that last post.

Goner Coolness
Posted: May 9, 2006 11:26 pm
Rachel, I get completely eviscerated on here by illiterate assholes on a weekly basis. Until you get hated on here by one of the many numbskulls under an alias, you aren't really all that cool. So welcome to the club!

(In reality, these dorks wouldn't have the nuts to share a pleasantry with the likes of us.)

Well, now, that was just mean
step off bitches.

some things bear repeating.

Don't like it? Don't read it. Free market economy. Anonymous posts on internet: oh, how brave.

and for the record - on a one-on-one basis, rachel has been particularly nice, informative and welcoming to me online and in person.
Posted: May 10, 2006 2:59 am
Hey, Rachel, I'm only a member of the Goner board cos we's all cool AND uncool at the same time, I thunked that was the point.

Don't be swayed one damn inch from having yer own take on things, there's room for anybody - especially those who offer heartfelt opinions, and put their name to it, for any and all's general grokkin'.

Don't rise to lets pretend's BS rant, he coulda done what you're doing, but he isn't, is he?

You go, girl!
Posted: May 10, 2006 3:58 am
cos we's all cool AND uncool at the same time

Hey, I agree.

But it's the people with their heads up their ass that make using this board a chore. I know a few people whose opinions I highly respect that only lurk here because they don't want to get involved in webshits.
Posted: May 10, 2006 4:08 am
I heard that. I suppose it is just one of those things; something like this board is going to have a chaotic nature--for good and for bad.

What got me over my utter indignation (and fear of stalkers) at people being insulting and difficult was taking a break from it and only posting about basketball for 2 weeks. Then after I came back I magically could give a shit about what anyone else here thought, said or did if they were going to hate on me for having an opinion or a personality or a brain.

It is just da internet.
Posted: May 10, 2006 4:53 pm
Big ups to RATC.
Posted: May 10, 2006 5:09 pm
Rachel is For Real, y'all, and this is coming from one hated at by Mr. J, so: Don't let it get you down, it's only hassles churning.

Heavy-metal loving, D-and-D playing, it's all good.

Save Libertyland!

In spite of the mean-ness of the original post, everytime I look at the thread title, I keep thinking about some after school special, "A Challenge for Rachel", and it makes me laugh.
I'm going to get busy on the script now. Thing is, should Rachel be "challenged", if you know what I mean, or is this story about date rape?
Both, maybe?
Posted: May 10, 2006 5:44 pm
I challenge rachel to date rape Jack Stands. and to not smoke weed.
Posted: May 10, 2006 5:45 pm
No can do. I'm in a bubble in the movie.
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:01 pm
Well if you'd gotten better grades God wouldn't have made your bones brittle as glass. Now look at you.
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:07 pm
I know...
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:10 pm
Can I be a white rapper? maybe a mentally challenged one that gets one shot...
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:15 pm
If by shot, you mean date raped, yes. Sorry, but this is going straight to the Oxygen channel, after it's ABC premier...
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:22 pm
Sorry, but that would never happen.

Rachel wears the anti-rape condom.

Posted: May 10, 2006 6:23 pm
Someone get Meredith Baxter Birney on the horn.
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:25 pm | Edited by: Jack Stands
Sorry, but that would never happen.

You are raised by over-concerned, elderly Jewish couple; the husband is concerned about "making a BM" all of the time, and voices this. No one is sure what happened to your parents, other than "there was an accident at the cannery".
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:27 pm
Someone get Meredith Baxter Birney on the horn.
Missy or Tracey Gold should play Rachel. Whichever one was on Growing Pains.
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:27 pm
You're a BM.
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:28 pm
...And Michael J. Fox as the shaky, but sensitive ex-boyfriend...
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:48 pm | Edited by: luteinizer
you need to throw an eating or alcohol disorder into the mix, I'd go with bulimia, just because she could yell at the dad to get out of the toilet so she could vomit, very oxygen channel. (not rachel of course, but the character, just to clarify)
Posted: May 10, 2006 6:49 pm
You're so right...
Posted: May 10, 2006 7:06 pm
...And Michael J. Fox as the shaky, but sensitive ex-boyfriend...

robin. . . hahahahahhaa that's awful.
(is that how you spell "awful"??)
Posted: May 10, 2006 8:20 pm

Bandwagonesque is nice.

and the best Teenage Fanclub record by far.
Posted: May 11, 2006 6:56 pm
I don't know Rachel well, but the one experience I had making explicit pornographic valentine cards with her at my house while watching the very underrated amatuer porn "Soul Sistas# 4", was quite pleasent.
Posted: May 11, 2006 7:49 pm
that thing had a title?? I'm still mad that we dind't scan some of those porn cards. you know, for posterity.
Posted: May 11, 2006 7:56 pm
I could be getting it confused with one of many other black porns we have at the house. Come to think of it, maybe it was called" Eight black peoples in a foreclosed house with an 80's vhs recorder that ran out of things to do, so we decided to have a pizza party and make really bad porn". Sounds like a long name, but when abbreviated, it kind of comes out to "Soul Sistas". Doesnt it?
Posted: May 11, 2006 8:41 pm
that movie was a classic.

All I know is that the cards did not work very well.

Well, I think one worked for Kelly.

wink. wink.
Posted: May 16, 2006 8:20 pm
Uhhh, anyhooo ignore this hater. I looked at your site and found it to be charming ;)

Can we talk about how totally awesome Van Hunt is?!
Posted: May 16, 2006 9:09 pm
I actually missed his set when he opened for Anthony Hamilton at The Orpheum - who knew R & B shows start on time?

In other news, I thought it was pretty hysterical that at that show for 25 bucks, you and your honey could have your picture taken in front of a giant airbrushed picture of Hamilton. The matching outfits were classic!
Posted: May 17, 2006 7:20 pm
Freaky. I never saw the appeal in dressing my man in an outfit to match my own. Not even at Sadie Hawkins.

Anyway, I keep waiting for Van Hunt's new album to reveal it's shittiness to me b/c I typically don't get into much neo-soul, but I am just LOVING it!
Prince/ Curtis Mayfield/ D'Angelo/Bowie/Stooges?!! Craaazeee!
