Goner Message Board / Goner Records / GONER SERVER SWITCH TONIGHT 7pm

hey goner folks...

we're switching over to our new server after the store closes tonight... and the bulletin board will disappear from the old server at that time. if there's problems with the cgi scripts and all that at the new server, we might see some weirdness.

if i can't figure it out, i'll switch back to the old server while we get it straight or come up with new options.

thanks for your kind indulgence...

Is there any chance of losing old posts? I gotta print out the "Oblivians" thread in this forum if so. It's just so fascinating...

chance? yes.

will we lose any more than have already been lost due to the messed-up logic of this bulletin board already? not likely.

worst case scenario is that the code just doesn't work on the new server for some reason. then we'll have to start anew.

we shall see.

Who's your new host? Are their plans for any new additions to the site?

I don't know, there's tons of stuff. It sort of depends on how much you want to maintain, I suppose. Didn't you mention something about a shopping cart? If your new host gives you a couple of sql databases, you could make an inventory type of thing - I don't mean something that shows your current inventory, more like something to store titles/descriptions/prices in and then you could make a different, whizbang 'stuff for sale' page. Some hosts have preinstalled scripts to create other things, like calendars and such. How about a review page, something where you review recently seen shows. Bring back 'Ask Louie'.

Only recommendation that screams out to me would be to put your footer links on the top of the page too, or make some navigation on the side. Your pages are so long that you either have to scroll to the bottom/top to go somewhere else.

I seem to remember some site where these guys had a webcam up and had made a page where you could adjust their thermostat by a degree each time. They eventually got pissed off because their heater was always going on.

inventory, yes.

thermometer control, no.

ask the expert, perhaps.

calendar, maybe.

navigation controls easier, definitely.

reviews, i hope so.

more Memphis stuff, yep.

Maybe you could have a page where a Goner musician shows you how to play like the experts. They wouldn't necessarily be teaching one of their own songs, but maybe video them or make them write tabs for some classic tune.

I could use this sort of help right now as I just purchased a toy ukulele and the tuning is weird as hell.

toy ukelele? The real one is in the Guiness book as the worlds easiest instrument to learn how to play! I still say the kazoo wins in that catagory.

How would a Goner musician know how to play like an expert?
