Eric, you may wanna drop a line correcting this dude at our local:

"PERLICH'S PICKS
A WEEKLY DIG THROUGH THE CRATES FOR THE STUFF YOU REALLY NEED TO HEAR
BY TIM PERLICH

Back to Oblivian
The Reigning Sound 's Greg Cartwright has unloaded his cool Memphis record store to old pal Jack Yarber and split for the Carolinas, but thankfully the move hasn't stopped him from putting out badass records on the Goner label. The aptly titled On The Go LP presents the first eight raunchy garage rock blasts cut by his former band, the Oblivians , back in the day. You'll need to grab it quick, though, Cartwright pressed the thing bootleg-style in a numbered limited edition of 600 nasty copies."

...elsewhere in the same issue, he gives the thumbs down to the Cool Jerks' (and the Mystery Girls) performance at SXSW.

Yeah, I noticed that yesterday too. He's written a lot of nice things about the Deadly Snakes, the Oblivians, Reigning Sound and Andre Williams, but he's obviously ignant!

That's all right, our own weakly writer claimed the Mystery Girls got their name from a Compulsive Gamblers song. But they did put a headbanging Jay Reatard on the front cover. Seems Memphis and Minneapolis took over SXSW this year- was that how your articles read?

That T.O. writer is usually pretty sharp.

The only thing that I took away from the SXSW coverage I've read is that backpack hiphop will destroy us all.

I liked the Cool Jerks! Fuck a buncha fickle mushhead press-kit regurgitators and their lack of ability to ignore Payola for giving fake shit like the YeahYeahYeahs glowing reviews!

I mean shit,it's 75% Mississippi on that stage when the Jerx rock it-how can you hate that? :)

I hate to tell you this. I know it'll break your heart, but I'm from W. Memphis. Dave is from Huntsville, and you know the rest of the story.

So,did ya like the party (usually on Chevy Chase or at whatever couch Jaime Vayda was stayin' at)?

I liked the party when Robnoxious wasn't around. Did you ever hear the story about Jamie deciding to come to Oxford because he knew I would help "dry him out". Apparently he actually hitch-hiked up to Oxford and spent the day wandering around looking for me. Eventually a group of frat boys beat him up, and he hitch-hiked right back to Tuffburg. I heard about all this after the fact, and I'm not 100% sure it's true. It is a great story though.

Aw,Rob wudn't so bad... i used to have a blast working w/him at Huck Finn's and Red Arrow Car Wash,he made those jobs tolerable!

Here's a good Rob story:

I had taken acid w/Leon and Walt Wheat in Leon's trailer outside of Petal. We did the usual goofy trippin' on acid shit, and we eventually came down enough to go eat at the IHop right across ther street from USM. This was a popular family eatery and young boho
hangout,so when we went in it was busy. Soon enough,Rob busts in to the middle of IHop,wasted as fuck, and proceeds to yell at the top of his lungs:"OH MAHHNN! MY BROTHER SAID A POT PLANE ON THE COAST WENT DOWN,AND HE GOT FIVE POOOOUUUUNDS! FIIIVVE POUNDS!!!!!"

Any sense of maintaining composure went out the window for us,and we laffed our asses off for the sheer lack of awareness that Mr.Noxious didn't have for his surroundings!!! Somehow, they didn't catch on we were loaded, and we were able to get outta there with just a couple of puzzled stares!

For that,i can't give him the chair...

My favorite Robnoxious quote is, "MAAAANN, I AIN'T A RACIST. I FUCKED A NIGGER!" The man had a problem. He also accused Scott Panter of being a dirty fuckin' jew in the exact same IHOP.

I guess it didn't come across in print, but I though both of those incidents were pretty fuckin' funny. They make me laugh out loud. On the whole, though, he could really grate the ol' nerves.
