All right, mofos, THE GIZMOS are finally ready enough to play. Not REAL ready, but just exactly as ready as we were when we made our first 3 records.

The news is that ALL 4 of the major creative forces from the '76-'77 ORIGINAL GIZMOS have agreed to play -- that's right, KEN HIGHLAND, EDDIE FLOWERS, TED NIEMIEC, AND RICH COFFEE! Now admittedly some of us have continued to entertain since we last played together, even going so far as to learn our instruments, but for this special event we are getting back to how we played together in the mid to late '70s. Sure it took some unlearning. Here's the official release from some of the honchos who've helped get it to this point:

"Starting this summer in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Dayton!!

Help the original GIZMOS embark on their quest to play live together once again. This will be their first shows since 1977!

Back in March 1976, when the Ramones were still a local New York band and the Sex Pistols weren't even a rumor in the U.S., a group of teenage fanzine writers, rock cultists, and heavy-metal dudes got together in Bloomington, Indiana, and recorded the first Gizmos EP. The strong influences of the Dictators, the MC5, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground, 60s garage bands, and 50s rockabilly crashed head-on with musicians self-trained on Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Santana, and Hendrix. The underground success of the first EP led to another session in April 1977, which yielded two more EPs: Amerika First and Gizmos World Tour.

Here's your chance to help fund traveling expenses for the GIZMOS first live performances since 1977! The Gizmos are coming back to Indiana this June for shows in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Dayton, Ohio. This tour will feature four members of the original 1976-77 line-up: Ken Highland, Eddie Flowers, Ted Niemiec, and Rich Coffee.

P.S. For those who don't know, there are a few unique incarnations of The Gizmos. This is indeed the raw KBD version, the one known for:
Amerika First
That's Cool (I Respect You More)
Kiss of the Rat
Mean Screen
Chicken Queen
Regular Dude
Human Garbage Disposal
and at least as many more, mostly not mentionable in polite company.

Music enthusiasts are already confirming their plans to travel far and wide for this experience. Hope you can be there to join us this year!

As some of you know, we've also been discussing offers elsewhere in the US this year, and potentially in Europe next year, so more news may be coming in the next month or so! Our tour Facebook page is being kept up to date:

F'rinstance, Musical Family Tree just wrote a lot of stuff like "This is, after all, the first, the wildest, the greatest punk rock band ever to come outta Indiana, and after years of trying the get them back together, they're coming home in June":

You're listed for the Burger Boogaloo on July 5-6 in Oakland. Hopefully that's accurate...

No, those are not the original '76-'77 Gizmos, but are later day Gizmos often called the "power pop" version.

We started the Gizmos in late '75, releasing our first of 3 EPs in early '76. After we split up in '77, a lot of people still wanted to hear our songs, so Gulcher Records and I recruited the newer version including Dale, Billy, and Shadow, and we played the original songs for a while, then evolving to more of a pop sound and so on.

If you like the songs I listed in the first message above, you definitely want to see the original version. We just did 3 mind-blowing shows in the Midwest, and will be playing at GONERFEST. Really don't miss it!
finnark:

So...there are two versions of the band touring this year, but the only member in common is you...is that correct?

Sorry for all the questions but it is a little confusing...

I'd love to see the original version but unfortunately won't be back in the Midwest until mid-July if you have anything planned then...
Kooch:

It really is very confusing, and just to add to that, I plan on naming my next band "The Gizmos"! My current band is The Gitmos, and we're from Indianapolis, but this hasn't caused nearly enough confusion, so next time I'm going "Z" all the way! If anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with the original original Gizmos—the polka band from Minnesota. Someday they're gonna wise up and sue all of us for the sweet gigantic wads of Gizmo cash.

BTW, the original "Amerika First" Gizmos is playing Goner Fest in September, so plan on being there!
tniemiec:

The next confirmed show for THE original (1976-1977) GIZMOS is Gonerfest!

We're also planning a few other shows this year, though not yet confirmed, and these will likely include the Midwest and/or East coast! Next year will likely include the West coast and/or Europe.

We'll soon be posting additional live videos on our new website. For now, check out some of our recent shows on YouTube or Facebook pages like GIZMOS WORLD TOUR 2014.

I'm interested to hear about the Dayton show since I graduated from highschool there and have never looked back...I heard it's more bombed out now than when I lived there...only scene was those Courage Crew fags.

I mean sure they had GBV and Breeders, but they were basically nowhere to be seen in the mid 90s.

Oh yeah play Gimme Back My Foreskin!
