Played the hell out of that when I was a kid, loved the shit out of that. Emulator time.
Wolfenstein? It was suspensefilled as heck, I used to jump out of my seat trying to get my gun angled in time to kill nazis before they got me. You only got like 4 bullets also.
Didn't know Wofenstein went back that far!
Yeah, wolfenstein was one of my favorite apple 2+ games, but since it was pre saving your progress, i was never allowed to play long enough to get all that far. Another game that got me squirming all over in my chair was lode runner. Don't know if anyone else ever played that. So simple, but yet so fun. The no saving caused the same problem though. Just found a YouTube of someone finishing it and it's 255 minutes long. I don't think my parents ever let me play more than one hour at a time. Glad for that though because i can't stop once i start playing video games. That's why I've never owned a system.
I played the fuck out of Load Runner on the Apple 2C.....I almost beat it a few times....then last year I downloaded a Nintendo emulator on my playstaytion phone (piece of crap but fun)....I think in their version you could save. Pretty sure I finally beat it and nothing realy happens.
I used to play allot of Choplifter and Digdug and Donkey Kong, and Dr. J vs Larry Bird...there were more but I'll have to think hard about it. My parents used to let me play as long as I wanted...Oh I remember one summer, me and my cousin 6 years older than me bought the Ghostbusters game for Apple IIC, it was more elaborate than any Atari movie franchise game I can remember....but still, it was crude as hell. I think we sat in front of that black and green computer screen for a week straight.
Eventually we hooked the Apple up to a TV and had a color screen....but I remember sitting around in corduroy OP shorts, Panama Jack T-shirt, and kangaroo shoes playing this game for hours on end...eventually I'd get bored and start killing the men I was supposed to be saving.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao9VAgyAgY4
Dude I wanted that game so hardcore. That and Rambo on the Commadore.
Airborne Ranger was tough. My friend bought it (unlike most of the bootlegs kids/adults swapped back then) and it came with a keyboard overlay because there were like 20 fucking commands you used besides the Atari 2600 joystick and the 1 button. Highest recommendation. There were some POWs at the end of a mission and them sumbitches were popping their heads up outta foxholes wearing Chef Boy-R-Dee hats. 2 got iced with grenades because they were asking for it. 1 got rescued to show us where the terrorists were stashing their heron and we got lifted outta there.
California Games. Finally, skateboarding! Sufing, too. Totally Epyx!
gameplay, was inferior.
gameplay on the original atari system was abysmal.
