Jasper de Wilde:

Listen here!
wewhowait:

Am I like the only one that thinks this LP is kinda boring?
vegetable_man:

this album definot;eu isnt all it was said to be. not bad not good wewhowait you were right
vegetable_man:

ok it s not bad its actually really fun
eric o:

many touring bands coming through town have been listening to this non-stop. they may be sick of it now, but they've been listening to it non-stop.

don't know why they weren't listening to Apache, but there you go.
wewhowait:

I don't want to say I "tried to like it", because that sounds gay, but I listened to this several times and I don't really feel the need to listen to it again. It's just kinda empty sounding. "People Talk" is a neat.. but maybe only because it sounds like an Intelligence B-Side?
paristheatre:

Would this be a cute band alert?
Rich Balls:

Would this be a cute band alert?
nah nah nah
elle:

i don't think it's boring, but i don't think it's my favorite album of the year either. *shrugs*

chicago kevin:

this fucking record is fantastic and if you don't like it you may want to sit in a dark room by yourself for a couple days for some serious introspection because i'm sure not liking this is a sign of some deeper and more sinister defect.
Ding Le Dangle:

Cheap Time lp rules!
Period.
Dutchman:

Dunno, when I saw em live all I could think was "Clorox Girls with Down's Syndrome". They were playing music like driving down the street with the parking brake on.

-Ryan
Ding Le Dangle:

Shit happens.
Shawn Carpetbagger:

I love this record! Best record of the year! People Talk!
Joe Diddley:

can't wait to hear the whole thing. saw 'em live in nyc and thought they were great. i know there's at least one recorded song they do that i love.
idiot string:

the album is good. good enough to spin around time after time, again and again? no. but they were fucking great when they played here on sunday to about ten people.
oleput:

I think it's funny the only song people are really digging by them is a cover by a Corinth, MS band from the '80s.
No Big Thing:

Indeed.

good enough to spin around time after time, again and again? no.

Yes, it is.

What 'people'? Your parents?
They're not 'people', just brother and sister.
oleput:

nah, more like close cousins.
trickknee:

Cheap Time is great live, but the recordings kinda go in one ear and out the other. If you're playing "sounds like," forget about the Intelligence and put on the Quick, Cigarettes and Sparks.
trickknee:

And again - Dutchman can eat it, this band always delivers onstage.
JJ Champion:

Would this be a cute band alert?

Maybe.... (scroll down)
paulyjerkface:

Y'know "People Talk" is a cover, right? Intelligence b-side? Ha.
tapecase jackson:

Dunno, when I saw em live all I could think was "Clorox Girls with Down's Syndrome". They were playing music like driving down the street with the parking brake on.

How long ago did you see em? When I first saw em last October I thought they were just ok...but this past Sunday they were fucking awesome.
stealth387:

I dig it, thanks for putting up the link.
wewhowait:

Y'know "People Talk" is a cover, right? Intelligence b-side? Ha.

I actually didn't... but that only solidifies my point.
mrlastname:

They're great live and I like the recordings, too.
frankie teardrop:

They are a monster live and the records are awesome. I still play the record at least two or three times a week. I also 100% don't care about the "Quick Ripoff" remarks. Do we really need to have another conversation about the pros and cons of "ripping off" someone?
paulyjerkface:

No, but don't act like it's completely not worth mentioning.
paulyjerkface:

And they were good on Sunday. Totally solid live band.
Jesse Garon:

Doing it live -----
isn't that what it's all about?

RECORDS SUCK
paulyjerkface:

True. Listening to music outside of a bar/club/basement is ridiculous.
Dutchman:

This spring maybe? After the screaming mayhem of the Rat Traps I was at least expecting something from Jeffery that would break a sweat but no dice. Not awful, just totally mediocre and oddly restrained. Bummer.

-Ryan
idiot string:

they were really awesome on sunday. im glad they like to play here without jay reatard.
Daneau:

Where can I hear the original of People Talk?
Jesse Garon:

Any lyrics available? All their songs last night seemed to be about the same thing --- the concept of "cheap time" that is. DEEP. or was it just me?

Not to say I didn't dig 'em --- good stuff! everything sounded better at the front of the stage, though, not thru the house PA.

Tepidly yet enthusiastically received by SF crowd, who were chomping at the bit for Jay's show.

C-T could be HUGE
Jay could be NUGE
frankenspline:

CT's singer looked really annoyed that people kept asking him for Jay merch.
Mr E Action:

I think the record is above average punk record, it's not great or anything mindblowing. I'd give it a 7.

It's pretty catchy, the only thing I can nitpick is the fact some of the songs are kinda samey.

And they are fun as fuck live, no doubt about that. And the fact I know that their next record is pretty much guaranteed to be better than the debut, that's not the case with most bands at all.
paulyjerkface:

I know that their next record is pretty much guaranteed to be better than the debut

Psychic powers?
Mr E Action:

Yes, Paul.... Miss Cleo is my aunt and psychic ability runs in my family.

Timebomb Tom rules!!!
bvalentine:

Bands like this just take up space.
dasha:

i think theyre boring-to-alright live.

record is catchy for the first side really uneventful except for maybe one song on the flip.

the dude is really obnoxious/full of himself in person.
not to say that has any say in what i think about the music but just an observation.
bvalentine:

full of himself in person.

I can allow some arrogant asshole type personalities slide, if they got the talent to back it up. And... on the flip side, I can allow some musical mediocrity slide if the dudes show up in town, are down to earth, like to party and are generally good dudes... but the combo of both - no thanks hipster. I got better things to do.

I you are talking about Jeff then you are a really bad judge of character . Jeff is in no way full of him self I would go as far as to say he is the exact opposite of "full of him self. Also Cheap Time rules and you guys are idiots with no taste .
Ding Le Dangle:

Jay must be right cause it takes one to -
ah fuck it.
I'm not in the mood.
deadcityrebel:

i dig that record. its gotten alot of play at my house by myself and my housemates.
Jesse Garon:

the dude is really

i dunno, i thought the band seemed really well thought-out and in touch with what motivates them

i.e., sincere

so I liked their set
mrlastname:

Cheap Time rules and so does Jeff.
Shawn Carpetbagger:

Because the history of great music is filled with humble, polite, librarian types. Oi vey. Cheap Time are great! I don't get the hate at all.

you're saying that after he got you into the show??
Jesse Garon:

saw 'em last night, again.

I think they got a new chick bass player?

would be nice to understand what the hell he's going on about. Still, good show & original sound.
nickg:

just read this whole thread, pretty funny!
