Yo Yo's - Presenting the Singin' Swingin' 7" (Big Beat UK)

Hi Heel Sneakers/Leaning On You/Destroyed/Wish Someone Would Care

"The Singin’ Swingin’ Yo Yo’s” features four tracks by one of the leading lights of Memphis’ mid-60s garage band scene. One of the few non-soul acts to be signed to the Goldwax imprint, the Yo Yo’s released two singles for the label, both of which are coveted by collectors. One side of their debut single, ‘Leanin’ On You’, is featured here – the other three have not been issued before. All the songs come from a session conducted at FAME in October 1966. The group’s covers of numbers by Irma Thomas and Tommy Tucker give an idea of how good they must have been live – plus there’s a bonus of a very obscure Dan Penn-Spooner Oldham song to round things off."
