Live from the Masque 3 Volume CD Set

$24.99

(Year One Records)

This three disc set of well-recorded live west coast punk disappeared without a trace shortly after it came out. A poorly selected comp appeared a few years back on the Dionysus label did little to fill the void. We got the last batch. Get all three for $25! Can't beat it!

From the FLEX! Discography:

Volume 1: Recorded live at the Masque benefit Feb. 28th, 1978. Terrific soundboard sound quality; the best tracks by some of the best L.A. punk bands and totally wild aggressive hectic punk rock. Weirdos at their very best; loud and fast. Four unreleased Bags tracks; fast chaotic screaming punk rock with great female vocals. Germs sound like a typical Germs live boot, but better quality and they do a David Bowie cover. All the Skulls songs sound alike and if you like hectic punk they are for you - plus 6 of the tracks are unreleased. [9 out of 10]. (CG)

Volume 2: Live at the Masque benefit Feb. 28th, 1978. Terrific soundboard sound quality; good punk rock by some classic bands. If you like the other Rik L Rik/F-Word releases this sounds basically the same so you'll like them plus they cover 'hillside strangler'. Randy from the Alleycats' voice sounds even more annoying when drunk; with a cover of Elvis' "jailhouse rock". X doesn't have their classic sound down yet, drunk kind of boring slow punk, with the unreleased song "Heater". Zeros sound like the other Zeros stuff, maybe a little more aggressive. [7 out of 10]. Volume 3: Recorded live at the Masque benefit Feb. 28th, 1978. Terrific soundboard sound quality; more classic Dangerhouse bands. Many unreleased Eyes song, this is the lineup with DJ Bonebrake (X, Flesheaters) and Charlotte Caffey (Go-Go's), hear Charlotte scream her lungs out. Great pop punk by both the Eyes and Dickies. Dickies do their usual stuff, Randoms are great (I hear they only did 2 shows - here's one of em), Black Randy sucks like all his 7''s, but who cares. This still rocks for the rest of the bands. [8 out of 10]. (CG)
