| CARBONAS

After a string of sold out singles and two full length albums, the Carbonas spent two years fine tuning their eponymous debut on Goner Records. The result is a hook-laden punk rock blitzkrieg worthy of the Undertones, Eater, Testors or Ramones. In an age where skinny-tied new wavers and male model hipster garage rockers are getting major label contracts, the Carbonas are refreshingly repugnant.
The release is self-titled because, as singer Greg King quips, "We couldn't agree on a title." So the record doesn't have a title. The band members don't have silly pseudonyms. They don't wear matching outfits. They just have a sound that fake punk bands would, and have, died for- 70s/80s-style punk that is melodic and delivered at a breakneck speed. Any of the tracks of this Goner debut could end up on some Bloodstains Across Dixie compilation in the future, except that this music is not destined to reside under some record collector's stained mattress. The Carbonas are here NOW.
…a taut, brilliant blast of both pop and punk. Given the record's running time, there's 'nary a wasted moment, riff or breath, as the band crams in a host of late-'70s/early-'80s Antipodean and East Coast rock influences, and strains those sounds through the Carbonas' distinctively greasy Southern sonic filter. – Bob Mehr, Commercial Appeal
