Hey - I am from chattanooga - there is a fantastic independent scene going on here and has been for the past 15 years. A good place to start would be This Here Records - brutal and melodic basement punk featuring the likes of The Jack Palance Band. In that time we have had loads of bands travel through dropping off people who almost always ending up staying here for good - sandwich in the valley under lookout mountain.

Bands like ADD/C, Giant Tiger, Burnin Doobage, The Hidden Spots, The Future Virgins, Bathtub Gin, etc etc have come from hear and toured the country brining with them a great home brew distro system - we pick up our cities music and deliver it to all the kids sweating and dancing in basements and bars.

Last year we had the 3rd (ish) Do You Hear We Fest (aka chattanooga punk fest) brining over 600 bands/folks from the southeast and beyond for one of the gnarliest jams of the summer. Come check us out. My name is nick - im in Giant Tiger (myspace.com/gianttigers)

Thanks. What's it's like to live there in a non-music related way? You know, cool neighborhoods, cost of living, work options, degree of bike friendliness. That kind of stuff.

Chattanooga is pretty awesome, also, The Black Diamond Heavies are also from there. As far as riding a bike goes, you should keep in mind that it's in the mountains.

I don't think they have much in the way of public transportation there, but it isn't too spread out, so biking probably wouldn't be too bad.

Gotta say I really dig this town. My cuz lives there and I go once a year.

any great venues, my favorite being JJ'S Bohemia. Also the pool halls are epic and the bars are open til 3AM pretty much every day. If you've lived elsewhere in the conservative south (Charleston, cough cough), you know a superior fun-town like CHattanooga when you see one.

Then there's a Lamar's... and Chad's records. and the city is pretty cheap too.
