A good buddy of mine is neighbors w/ the guy that started the Guayaki company in Sebastopol.

Dig coffee an all. It just gives me the shakes + makes me edgy if have too much. And makes me crash after the caffeine wears off. Yerba Mate' has a much smoother buzz. Unlike coffee you can brew it multiple times as well. More bang for your buck.

The taste is definitely acquired for some. Quite bitter and literally tastes like the grass in your yard.

That Guayaki stuff is kinda pricey. Prefer drinking Cruz De Malta which is an actual loose leaf Argentinian brand. Two kinds: one w/ sticks (con palo), one w/ out sticks (sin palo). It comes in a large red + white bag sorta like a 1lb. sack of flour. It costs about $5 in my area. For some reason all the Latin grocery stores that usually carry it have been out lately.

I drink the Cruz De Malta variety quite a bit maybe not on a regular basis but... Some friends from Argentine descent hipped me to it and I can testify to the above. Although coffee drinkers, too, they drink it pretty much every day.

I drink it baby girl style with milk and sugar. I like it iced that way, too.

It doesn't make you think you can conquer the world, just ... confident.

My Cruz De Malta source has dried up and my stash is cashed. Anyone know where I can score?

You mean does one "get to" have one of those sippy cup ceramic Yerba Mate things. - Yes.

I scored, by the way; 3 x 500 gram bags @ $3.99 each.
