Oregon's, Portland's food scene still lacks a defining theme and day to day offerings are some of the fucking worst on the planet , however some of these sandwiches do look yummy. Such as , THE BLUE RIBBON at Grand Central Bakery or THE MAPLE at Meat Cheese Bread .
I still dream of the req. bbq sauce and slaw side from Top's in Mempho

then I submit to you that you have not seen much of the planet...or the country at least...this is the sixth state i've lived in and is head and shoulders food-wise above the tepidness I've had to endure in other states..."defining theme" (that's a plus?) or no...

Tons of good pho, plenty of good Thai joints, couple of good gyro spots, a handful of killer taco trucks, etc, etc.

LOTS of good day to day stuff (I'm defining that as not too fancy, $7 entree type a thing.)

Maybe you mean American food when you say day to day? Well the best BBQ sure as hell ain't in Memphis. Definitely ain't in Portland neither. Never had those burgers, so can't comment on that joint.

Well...I may contest that...I've lived in the Carolina's..travelled quite a bit through texas...but still haven't had anything that touches Cozy Corner..the ribs anyway

Ahhh, ribs fall in between Brisket and Chicken on the What I order at a BBQ joint list, so I'll take your word for it. Actually hotlinks probably beat out chicken and ribs, too.

If you can't eat well day to day in Portland, you are a drooling moron.

So to clarify...the best bbq sure as hell isn't in Memphis if you only order stuff from Texas.

Naw, My complete stuff to order at BBQ joints list goes like this:

1. Whole Hog
2. Pulled Pork
3. Burnt end plate
4. Brisket
5. Hot links
6. Ribs/rib tips
7. chix

And I've never had BBQ in TX, but plenty of BBQ made by Texans. My favorite is Eastern Carolina.

I'll eat ribs if you're buying, but it takes $15-20 worth of ribs to get full, IME

you know, Blondie, the comic strip, had a feature yesterday on Yankee Pot Roast, and that just reminded me about what's lacking in Portland these days....

Did i ever tell you guys the one where I had to travel 5 days across the Gobi desert, using my testicles for legs, my legs having been rendered useless by Tepid Leg Syndrome from eating at Village Inn and Applebees in the same day.. you can find statues off me in many a eastern european bier garden..my testicle-legs bearing me stalwartly on...

I like the sandwiches at that butcher shop on Williams. Watching the butcher saw meat while you wait is fun.

I love the paninis at Hop and Vine.

There were no tomatoes at the BK this morning. They cited crop damage. Whopper Jr. sans tomato = Harsh!

BK sucks, tomatoes or not.

complete, total, 100% BULLSHIT! I am never going to Burger King again, despite Whopper Jr. being on the $1 menu.
