hey goner community----
we're launching our all-out campaign to break the KING KHAN & BBQ SHOW & HARLAN T BOBO records (and later, down the line, KING LOUIE!).... we're looking for your help in finding appropriate media outlets for this stuff. is there a writer in your town that actually writes about good stuff for the weekly/daily paper? is there a radio station that actually plays it? let us know?
the harlan cd is more indie-rock ear-friendly than a lot of the "typical" Goner fare... so keep that in mind.
we especially need leads/advice for media and distribution/retail in CANADA (esp for kK & BBQ), europe, england, south america, japan, australia, etc.
oh yeah, any websites that are worth a crap besides the obvious- agonyshorthand, terminalboredom, garagepunk, bomplist... ????
we have limited resources but we're tryin' to do it right. we can't get everybody a cd but we can at least spread the word.
help a goner out. email us if you can.
thanks!
-eric / zac

I play the Khan/BBQ record on my show almost every week since they came through town. I don't have Harlan T. Bobo, yet. Stats: 100 watts of power, college town, 1 record store.
If you send Dutch some press flyers, photos, I'm sure he'd get them in every bar from Climax to Cloverdale.

As far as promo in Montreal goes, get in touch with these people.
MONTREAL MIRROR:
-Johnson Cummins - writer/record reviewer -- jonathan.cummins@gmail.com
-Rupert Bottenburg - music editor/writer/record reviewer (also the guy who did the cover story on KK & BBQ back in Feb.)
CKUT (the best college radio station in town):
http://www.ckut.ca/contact.php -No specific names of anybody to e-mail on their website, but you should find everything you need to know here.
CISM (the best French college radio station in town -- will most definitely play your records):
http://www.cismfm.qc.ca
& e-mail these dudes from the station:
-Martin Roussy - general music director - musique@cam.org
-Avi Elbaz - "Loud Rock" director - montrealenflammes@hotmail.com
CJLO (the third best college radio station in town [yeah, there are only three, but I digress]):
-I "work" for these guys -- I've played a lot of Goner Records stuff (Bad Times, Reatards, King Louie, etc..) as well as a bootleg of that KK & BBQ album, and quite a few others have played downloaded versions of that album as well
http://www.cjlo.com e-mail these dudes:
-Omar Hussain - Music director - altmd_cjlo@hotmail.com
-Jordana - promotions director - promo@cjlo.com
-Alex Huynh - magazine editor - magazine@cjlo.com
The guy who mentioned Chart Attack magazine was right on the money. They promote the fuck out of Canadian music just for the sake of it being Canadian. You shouldn't have a problem getting coverage from them.

You should send radio cdrs with photocopied cover artwork. If you send them real cds it'll just end up in some asshole thief dj's private collection.

in boston, try wmbr (www.wmbr.org) and wzbc (http://www.wzbc.org). both really great stations that have shows that play some excellent shit (late riser's club, lost and found, etc). they'd likely play the shit out of 'em.

When I was at WHPK, people would even steal copies of cdrs. Somebody stole the Essential Logic compilation that my buddy had burned from vinyl (which makes a little more sense than taking the cdr versions of the Creepy Drifter releases which were readily available).

Most stations are humble enough to ask for one studio copy of a CD. In Melbourne & Sydney a star system is in place and they ask for one per announcer if you want any airplay - I send a DOZEN of every CD to both Melbourne stations. But if they got Goner shit in the studio, a handful of 'em would go nuts for it.

Good luck with the release, y'all!
