Yep, I'm comin' along w/a couple friends. Never been to Reno. Hadn't planned on seeing the Sonics again but can't resist seeing 'em in a club. Also saw the Sloths last year and they were great.

Dang. Where are the Specials playing? I need to clone myself.
Posted: Jan 30, 2013 9:04 pm

The Specials are playing at the Warfield on Saturday. My friends and I are also in the same boat, as far as cloning. We might go back and forth. Who knows...

ALRIGHT!
Posted: Feb 1, 2013 3:41 pm

Someone needs to check the Slovenly website...I just tried to reserve the room and the site says this:

"Please specify check-in and check-out date in order notes."

Yet there is no "order notes" field that I can see...so then when you get to the "Pay Now" button if you're using Pay Pal, there is no place to enter the specific nights you're staying!
Posted: Feb 1, 2013 3:44 pm

I emailed them too.
Posted: Feb 1, 2013 5:15 pm

Jeez, what a fiasco. Tried to reserve the room directly from the Nugget but can't be done. They gave me a number for someone named Pete Menchetti but it was disconnected.

???
Posted: Feb 1, 2013 11:23 pm

we are working on the order notes. hang in there.

you can email orders AT slovenly DOT com for some further help.

it might be fixed by now, too, so check there first.
Posted: Feb 1, 2013 11:50 pm

Just to confirm: we have fixed the issue. You can now enter the dates you'll be staying at the hotel in the notes field. Sorry for the hassle folks. If you experience any further issues please e-mail me directly at orders AT Slovenly DOT com.

Hey BJ/Sixteene:

If you buy the 2 or 3 day passes, are they being sent out or are they will-call? If will-call, do we pick them up at the Alley?
Posted: Feb 5, 2013 6:10 pm

It's will-call at the venue.

Site is working fine now, thanks.

got my ticket too!
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 12:09 pm

Going to be there for this. Stickerguy confirmed that Jello Biafra is the latest DJ added to the party. Bazooka Joe, you're gonna get to play one record at this rate! Excited to see all the bands and hear the DJs. And to have an Awful Awful at the Little Nugget in beautiful downtown Reno.
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 12:38 pm

I dunno about an Awful Awful, I'm more thinking about how I miss a Super Burrito or maybe hanging out with the homeless at Lois Basque Corner.
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 1:44 pm

i'll be having an awful awful. where's the super burrito at?
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 2:45 pm

Oh, it's nothing special, I just have a hankering for one.
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 2:49 pm

It's greasy, lunch food. I used to like Bertha Miranda's, for a sit-down, but that was 20 years ago. Too bad Jo Anne's Chili Bordello closed.
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 2:49 pm

combo plate looks great!
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 2:58 pm

I have no idea how the new owners are, but Landrum's was a Reno landmark too. I recall many an evening wind-down sitting on a stool, waiting for the ash to fall off "Maybelle's" cigarette while twitching her spatula and some drunk person passed out in the kitchen.
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 3:03 pm

And, if you go here at night and look due North, you'll see the Tower Of Darkness....
Posted: Feb 20, 2013 3:10 pm

This page has a sort of interesting downtown walking guide.
Posted: Feb 22, 2013 12:42 pm

I drove by the Landrum's in Sparks last time I was in town for a visit (Xmas 2012) and am pretty sure it's closed...again. Late night, the Virginia St. location always had the air of a party that was out of control and about to get shut down.

the casino across the street from the Nugget used to have a "grab cash" booth on their floor, where they lock you in, throw some money in, and you have to grab as much as you can before it hits the floor.

also, $2.99 steak 'n eggs!

the casino across the street from the Nugget

I'm assuming you mean the old Nugget in downtown Reno?
Posted: Mar 6, 2013 11:53 pm

I'm set to fly! I'm arriving at RNO at 12:00 am on Friday morning, so if you see me laying around the airport gimme a shake and we'll get the party started!

Harrah's is across the street from the Little Nugget in Reno. The Silver Club used to be across the street from John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks where the shows will take place, but it closed 3-4 years ago. Like most of the small, low budget casinos in Reno and Sparks, the Silver Club was always full of dirty drunks, tweakers, and weirdos, and it had a bunch of bars tucked away in the dark corners of the casino. A great place to hang out. RIP.

Do you remember the Red Rose Saloon?
Posted: Mar 7, 2013 3:37 pm

Red Rose Saloon doesn't ring a bell. Where was it? Downtown Sparks? When did it close down?
Posted: Mar 7, 2013 5:33 pm

Yeah, it was on B street and I don't remember when it closed. Early 90's? It used to be a bowling alley. I think it was near where the Oasis is now.
Posted: Mar 7, 2013 6:08 pm

SILVER CLUB IS CLOSED? bummer. so what's left in Sparks, casino-wise, besides JA Nugget?
Posted: Mar 10, 2013 8:57 pm | Edited by: cultural ambassador

Yeah, it was on B street

Never made it there. Not of age at the time nor did I have a fake ID. If the area is any indicator, it must have been a lot like the Elbo Room - crazy drunks and street walkers blowin' off steam.

Western Village, but their casino floor is pretty small. However, they have an awesome steakhouse. Rail City Casino is on Victorian to the west about a mile, but I haven't been there in a long time. They renovated a few years ago and put in a brew pub, so that might be alright. Don't know what their gaming floor is like. You plannin' on taking some of the house's money?

Killer weekend so far! Didn't have my hopes up too high about the Sonics, but they blew me away - Los Vigalantes was a crazy fun fucking mess - and it was awesome seeing King Automatic do his mojo live! Left around 2am and luckily got a second wind to come back an hour later to catch the Anomalys.
Posted: Mar 27, 2013 8:06 pm

How about the Sonics new drummer? Guy hit like a motherfucker. Awesome, fun weekend of drinking and rock'n'roll. Jello's DJ sets were fucking righteous.

YES! I thought the same thing. Sounded like he had really studied the records.
