There is another band that is probably going to play Thursday but if they actually cant then we have to keep it at 4.

where are Oakland's scenic spots?
I'll be in a boutique hotel near the
con center and close to Chinatown,
is there a bus to a hilly viewpoint?

Tet, that is a pretty nice hotel, for oakland. sights? you can walk 2 minutes out your door to take in the scenery where this happened last week:

is there a bus to a hilly viewpoint?
Take the BART to the Fruitvale Station and hop on the 54 bus. It goes way up into the hills and into the redwood forests. Lots of great bay views up there and very little chance of being murdered there, unless you're working on another expose about Your Black Muslim Bakery, Inc.

another day in paradise
\"Lois Lane\" and I visiting her old pals who were running the zine \"Search and Destroy\" (so you know the era), it was Christmas time.

Walkin\' over to the Mab to catch the Avengers, smokin\' a j on the way the four of us somehow ended up on the borders of Chinatown just as a pack of small assassins rev\'d up and took off after spraying bullets and breaking the windows in some eatery that failed to pay off the Tongs.

quite the pre show excitement

needless to say, I don\'t get high with 3 girls no mo\'.

Norma and I just drove around Oakland to look at hotels and get pricing and stuff. these are her descriptions. For example, I would probably describe the Imperial Inn as a hooker motel, but she is more charitable because it is 1:00 in the afternoon and she doesn't know what it is like on MacArthur at night...

The Washington Inn
495 Tenth Street
Oakland, CA 94607
510-452-1776
www.thewashingtoninn.com
reservations@thewashingtoninn.com
THIS IS A NON-SMOKING HOTEL

Pricing:
Queen Bed Single = $99.00 +Tax
Two Doubles = $119.00 +Tax
King Suites = $149.00 +Tax

Description:
This hotel is REALLY nice and doesn't have that stale smell to it, probably because it's a NON-Smoking hotel. Mention you are there for BUDGET ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL to receive these price rates. This is the nicest hotel CLOSEST to the Stork Club.

Inn at the Square (formerly Best Western)
233 Broadway
Oakland, CA 94607
510-452-4565
1-800-633-5973
http://www.innatthesquare.com/

Pricing:
Best Rate in October = $94.00

Description:
Smoking and non-smoking rooms available. This place isn't AS nice as the Washington Inn, but it is up there. It looks very clean and is getting some updates.

Imperial Inn
490 West MacArthur Blvd.
Oakland, CA 94609
510-653-4225

Pricing:
Single Bed, 1 Person = $50.00 +Tax
Single Bed, 2 People = $55.00 +Tax
2 Beds, 2 People = $65.00 +Tax
2 Beds, 4 People = $75.00 +Tax

Description:
This place is a bit lower budget and it only has 40 rooms, but it is fairly close to the Stork Club. It is currently undergoing renovation so it will be newly done by October. Mention you are there for BUDGET ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL to receive these price rates.

Regency Inn
3720 Telegraph Ave.
Oakland, CA 94609
510-652-9800
www.oaklandregencyinn.com

Pricing:
1 King Bed = $63.00 +Tax
2 Doubles = $70.00 +Tax

Description:
This place isn't very nice looking from the outside but it's cheap and a straight cab ride to the Stork Club. The Website shows a picture of the rooms.

Another option for folks with cars would be the Motel 6 off of I-880 at 1801 Embarcadero in Oakland on the Estuary. On the freeway, it'd take you 10 minutes to get to the Stork. Not a bad area at all. There's also an Executive Inn a block away from Motel 6, which might also work.

personally, now that i have had some time to think about it, if i was coming in from out of town i would stay at the "Inn at the Square" aka inn at jack london square. there is good eating around there, even some open late. it is farther away but they can call you a cab out front. the bus does run pretty close to the stork from there, but it takes a while.

i would otherwise stay at washington square, but it is super non-smoking. it is closer and there's really good food near there (Le Cheval, Breads of India, Pacific Coast Brewing Companny, Ratto's deli).

i dont know the place andy us talking about but i trust his judgement.

I'd say spend a few extra bucks on the lodging situation...I stayed at a very cheap motel in Oakland once and a junkie beat his daughter to death in the room directly next door before keeling over naked in the doorway. Questioned by the cops, required to make a written statement, etc...Just sayin'.

starts at 7 on Friday. also starts at 7 on THURSDAY:

Thursday, October 25

HANK IV
DIGGER & THE PUSSYCATS
HUSBANDS
LES HORMONES
THEE CORMANS

and THE MANTLES www.myspace.com/mantles are playing first on saturday.

If I was coming from out of town I would stay at either Washington Inn or Courtyard Marriot. There's no way to totally avoid Oakland's many flesh eating zombies, but there seemed to be a lot fewer of them in those hotels.

Hi-

Holy crapola, this thing starts in 2 days! Been getting a lot of the same questions, so thought it easiest to address em together:

1) Tickets are NOT SOLD OUT. There will be about 100 available at the door each day. Get there EARLY each day though as it will definitely sell out.

2) Check the set times at the bottom of this post. The Doors will open about an hour or 2 before that each day.

3) There will be a COSTUME CONTEST on SATURDAY NIGHT hosted by NOBUNNY. Dress accordingly.

4) There will be a pancake breakfast/brunch sponsored by Batter Blaster www.batterblaster.com and hosted by JASON MORGAN on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at the Stork. Get there early for free pancakes.

5) If you're in one of the bands, check your email/myspace for band related info.
