the first week of September. I think I'm staying at Bruce's place- or maybe in Jack Stands' basement. Is there going to be anything much happening? Anyone got tips on what I should see/do, other than Graceland and Gus' Fried Chicken? Also- do you have beer there? Because I will probably need some. Several.

If like your fellow countyman, the lead singer of the Ooga Boogas, you enjoy Coors Light, then yes, we have beers. And if like your fellow countryman, the lead singer of the Ooga Boobs's girlfriend, your girlfriend finds this acceptable, then enjoy Bruce and/or Robin's loving embrace.

Coors Light? I was hoping for a Sierra Nevada pale ale. I'll have to ask my girlfriend about the loving embrace thing- but I think it'll be OK.

It looks like Geelong, but a bit bigger. I'm gonna have to brush up on place, I think. Good thing I have a copy of "Silence Of The Lambs": Many works of fiction and literature use Memphis as their setting, giving a diverse portrait of the city, its history, and its citizens. These include The Reivers by William Faulkner (1962), September, September by Shelby Foote (1977), The Old Forest and Other Stories by Peter Taylor (1985), the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Summons to Memphis by Peter Taylor (1986), The Firm (1991) and The Client (1994), both by John Grisham, Memphis Afternoons: a Memoir by James Conaway (1993), "Plague of Dreamers" by Steve Stern (1997) Cassina Gambrel Was Missing by William Watkins (1999), The Guardian by Beecher Smith (1999), "We are Billion-Year-Old Carbon" by Corey Mesler (2005), The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, and The Architect by James Williamson (2007). Cultural references Memphis is the subject of many major pop and country songs, including "The Memphis Blues" by W. C. Handy, "Memphis" by Chuck Berry, "Queen of Memphis" by Confederate Railroad, "Memphis Soul Stew" by King Curtis, "Maybe It Was Memphis" by Pam Tillis, "Graceland" by Paul Simon, "Memphis Train" by Rufus Thomas, "All the Way from Memphis" by Mott the Hoople, "Wrong Side of Memphis" by Trisha Yearwood, "Walking in Memphis" by Marc Cohn, "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" by Bob Dylan and "Memphis Skyline" by Rufus Wainwright. In addition, Memphis is mentioned in scores of other songs, including "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Honky Tonk Women" by the Rolling Stones, "Life Is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane, "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles, "Cities" by Talking Heads, "Crazed Country Rebel" by Hank Williams III, "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" by U2, and many others.

If you're looking for a Ross Johnson "gig," I'm sure that can be arranged.
Missing the Gonerfest? bummer!

Some other American ales you might try: the Yuengling line (cheap, domestic Pennsylvania beer, good for everyday drinking) the New Belgium line (expensive, domestic Colorado beer, good for polo shirt and top sider-wearing croquet parties; they've got a pale and their "Fat Tire" is everywhere) the Ghost River line (newish -5-10 yrs, Nashville? beer, the pale is decent, they've got it on draft at Memphis Pizza Cafe) the Abita line (not anything special just-outside-New Orleans beer, but cheap and ubiquitous inside New Orleans) Dixie beer (I'm the only person that likes this cheap beer brewed in cypress casks for a piney cleaning detergent flavor) Also, try a Chelada (by Budweiser), a mix of Budweiser and Clamato packaged in a 16 oz. can (again, I'm the only person that likes these). Murphy's is the only bar that sells them, the official beer of the Murphy's daytime drunk and best experienced in the light of day at Murphy's.
You'll be in town for Wizzard Sleeve on Sept. 1 at the Poplar Lounge? They are the logical progression of the Lost Sound's blackwave or kinda like the Primitive Calculators but less arty and more thuggy.
Also recommended, a night of crack smokin and cheap American whiskey drinkin with ebaola and misslinda. Good point of advice, begin your conversation by swearing undying love to the Ramones (regardless of your true feelings). Also, other good bands to swear fealty to: Judas Priest, Motorhead, the Cramps. Be prepared for non-sequitors and mood swings. This evening would be wonderfully paired with a long transoceanic flight the following morning.

Oh yeah, and you know that scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure where he shouts "The stars at night are big and bright..." That works here too but with the lyrics to Walking In Memphis instead.

Is TJ really the Scientist's merch girl? I wish that were true, on a couple of levels.
Excellent. I love crack, whiskey, the Ramones and the Cramps.
If you're looking for a Ross Johnson "gig," I'm sure that can be arranged. Missing the Gonerfest? bummer! That's equal parts excellent and a bummer. But the timing couldn't be helped.

Just started packing- got a Tote tshirt, Spooky Records tshirt, Old Bar Unicorns tshirt, a toothbrush and some pants. That should be enough, I reckon.

Watch out for Bruce. One minute you're having beers with him. The next minute he's trying to stuck a finger up your ass.

After a great day of wandering round, drinking beer, eating BBQ and meeting friendly locals, I just got kidnapped and taken across the river. Then brought back.
