I'll start: I loved it. I don't care that it was "slow". The Wire started slow and it was worth sticking with it. I also don't care whether people outside of New Orleans will "get it". The Louis Prima montage was great as was all the Kermit Ruffins stuff.

One more thing: Davis Rogan is my friend and I am his lawyer. Any (inevitable) shit-talking about Davis will be ignored by me.

oh.....all the black people seemed cool, all the white people seemed obnoxious......so it's kinda true to real life.....

all the white people seemed obnoxious...

not only obnoxious, but privileged and largely unaffected by Katrina. that part kind of irritated me but I am reserving judgment for at least a few weeks.

These David Simon shows take a while to develop.

Davis Rogan is my friend

I met him a few months ago when I was down there over Thanksgiving. Do you know Grace Callahan? She's an old childhood friend of mine who's been living down there for about 10 years. Anyway, she took me to Candle Light to see the Treme Brass band, and Davis was there and she introduced us and we talked about the show a little bit. Glad to see it finally materialize after playing "spot the HBO producer" for a week at Bullet's, Vaughn's, Candle Light, et al.

I guess the restaurant owner, who's white, didn't necessarily seem unaffected by Katrina. She said, more than once, "don't ask me about my fucking house."

I liked it a lot. I don't expect it to be "The Wire" in quality or content so I'm not bringing those expectations to the table.

Agree that the Kermit parts were really great and obviously the search for the bar owners brother could get pretty interesting.

I'm sure folks who live in New Orleans will have a lot more to pick apart/hate(?) about the show but I thought it was a good start.
