Harry Lee had nothing to do with Lee's Hamburgers but it sounds like one of those many things that I say that are untrue.

His family had the House of Lee Chinese restaurant on veterans and causeway. that's where he grew up in the 50's. there's a payless and a borders where that used to be.

I live in mid-city and wanted to like the Bud's on City Park Ave.

It was the SINGLE WORST hamburger i've ever had. some how, although cooked, it was ice cold and soggy. Tasted like sawdust and bun was actually about to mold. i drove back and demanded my money back.

Hate to say it but NOLA doesn't really have a great burger, go to Lafayette, Judice's INN!!! http://www.judiceinn.com/

port of call is great. so is bud's. not the city park bud's, though. that IS the worst location. markey's is pretty damn good, if you can stand 10 tv's in your face. mr. john's on st aharles makes a killer burger, but it's a steakhouse so it ain't cheap.

Port of Call SUCKS!!! It's gone way downhill. The last burger I had there was pure slop and had no flavor, the place is filthy, the staff is a bunch of skeevy quarter trash, it's expensive, there is always a wait... and you've got buffa's, snug harbor, yo mama's and coop's within blocks of there serving good burgers.

I had a surprisingly good burger recently at Elizabeth's, and the cheeseburger po boy at Joey K's is one of the single best po boys I've had in years.

elizabeth's sucks ASS. period talk about waiting. try 1 hour 15 minutes. SO overrated.. if you don't want to wait at port of call, don't go there between 7 and 9. not too hard to figure out. as far as them going downhill, i've been going there since 1992 and it's always been the same...
AND, i can't believe you think coop's is good. might as well go to the abbey and lick the floor.

1. Elizabeth's dinners are awesome. Chris, did you have the blue cheese burger?
2. Elizabeth's brunches are awesome (but not worth the wait).
3. Verti Mart is great, but I've seen one too many roach in their big refrigerated glass case where they keep their prepared foods.
4. No opinion as to the quality of the taste of the Abbey's floor.
5. We can all agree that the Bywater BBQ is the worst out of any restaurant listed in this thread.

I stand behind Markey's burgers, but I understand why many would not find it the most pleasant dining experience.

I just had the plain Elizabeth's burger.. for lunch on a weekday. Not a huge fan of waiting for their brunch either, and the duck/cornbread pancake thing slathered in pepper jelly I had once was pretty terrible.

Would like to try Markey's burger sometime. We have a great burger in mid city at the Beachcorner Bar & Grill which is waaaaay more annoying than Markey's, and I still go there.

We can do it the last Tuesday of every month. I don't care. Mondays and Thursdays are bad for me.

NOLA BURGER OF THE MONTH CLUB

Out of respect for the grand damme of New Orleans burgers, we should have the first meeting at Port of Call. I just called them and they don't take reservations, but they said they're slow enough that if a bunch of us showed up at 6:00 on a wednesday, they could accommodate us.

For the sake of consistency, let's make it every first Wednesday of each month. We'll meet Wednesday, September 9 at Port of Call at 6:00.

Who's in?

I go to the one on Canal Blvd a lot for lunch with co workers. It's probably in my top 10 but not my top 5. The clientele is kind of annoying but the kickass patio/beer garden makes up for it (as long as it's a nice day).

"port of call is not as good as it used to be."

I haven't been in there since '06 when I got banned for
wrapping my burger & baked potato in a newspaper & walking
out the door after the bartender explicitly told me that they
"DON'T DO TAKEOUT anymore." Fuck the system!

But nevertheless, I'm sure the guy that banned me has
probably overdosed on heroin or sperm by now so it's
probably safe for me to go back.

In an unrelated story: Sometime in summer '07, me & my
Dad were walking down Dauphine around 11am & we saw
STACKS of boxes of FROZEN hamburger patties sitting outside
POC's side door thawing out in the sun. No shit! At the time it broke
my heart cause I've been eating burgers in there religiously since
at least '72 or whatever year it was that I gave up the tit & started
eating real food and I always thought they were the best in town. It
was a sad day...

What's up with the facebook group? There's like 30 people on it. No way I want to go to dinner with all those people. And(y), what kind of judgement criteria has been established? Is this suppose to be for science or is it just gonna be for burgers? I am on the fence, need more info.
AndyB

Sarah, either come and eat burgers or don't. I'd like for you to be there. I like you, but I'm not sure what kind of info you are looking for. How about this:

-There are 22 members.
-2 members live in your house (now you've got 20)
-One guy lives in Brooklyn and another just moved to S. America (now you've got 18)
-7 have Goner Board accounts (Muscle, Colby, me, Joe P, Dustin, Dr. Wheelie, Andrea) - Now you've got 12
- Everybody loves Blythe (11)
- You know Meredith Kristen, and Tess (8)

Therefore, if all the people you don't know actually show up, that means you'll be forced to eat a burger with eight strangers. You could do worse. You might make a new friend. Or one guy (other than Muss) will annoy you.

Markey's knocked it out of the park.

There are two levels of burger ratings: (1) Overall Awesomeness of the Burger; and (2) The Other stuff, which is an average of (a) was the burger cooked to my specifications; (b) quality of the bun and the bun/burger ratio; (c) quality of the dressing (lettuce and tomato); (d) atmosphere; (e) value; and (f) accessability. The ratings are on a 1-5 star basis. Each tasting included roughly 10 different participants.

Port of Call
1. 3.75
2. 3

Beach Corner
1. 2.9
2. 3.0

Markey's Bar
1. 4.6
2. 4.4

Went to Markey's. It's definitely now in my Top 3. Only complaint is that they don't understand what "Not dressed" means.

I refuse to believe that any of these burgers are the BEST BURGER. For now, temporary best-burger prize goes to the Filet Mignon Po-Boy at Crazy Johnnie's.

Give Buffa's a ZERO for me. I hate that place. Their cheese is rich with sand and their employees boil their girlfriends.

I believe only one employee boiled his girlfriend and he is no longer working there. I can't comment as to the sand content of their cheese.

I don't remember doing that, but I don't doubt it was me. I literally go for the throat when I'm drunk, no pun intended. WHO DAT!!

I think we're gonna take February off due to the craziness of Mardi Gras and the Superbowl. I don't think we decided where the next burger would be. Lets figure it out after Gras

NOBMC RETURNS MARCH 10

After skipping February due to Lomardi Gras, the NOBMC is back. The meeting is at LUKE 333 St. Charles Ave. Wednesday, March 10 at 6:00.

The Luke burger is $16, but since there was no February meeting, surely you all have saved up enough cash to foot the bill. It is a damn fine burger. I think they fry their french fries in duck fat or something fancy and they are truly something special.

Hopefully, Chris and Sarah wont puss out again.

Let's do it! Anyone object to Houston's.

Peg said she has class on Wednesdays. We chose Wednesdays arbitrarily. We can meet on Tuesdays. I don't care.

Thoughts? Lets have a plan by the end of tomorrow, Friday the 9th.

Had the Houston's burger again a few days ago. Pretty good, you guys. Only complaint is the bun was too large...and it cost $14.

Mostly just wanted an excuse to restart this topic. A good one. Anyone have any good burgers lately?

I don't know how I feel about steamed burgers, or whatever, but I'm pretty into having a new burger joint (Smashburger) a couple blocks from my house, even it is a chain. Juicy D's looks promising too. I guess that place on Jackson & Magazine across from Stein's is gonna be some kinda gourmet burger place. I'll probably never go.

I am all for exhausting the list of purveyors of greasy 1/2 lb bar burgers before getting to the new school "$9 fast food burger" places that have been popping up. I do like the Company Burger, I'm excited for Five Guys to come to mid-city, and I liked Shake Shack in NYC when I went there. However it seems like these places are not really in line with what burger club set out to rank in the beginning.

Womb Raider, Saint Sarah and me went to Yo Mama's, which is in the quarter, a block off of Bourbon Street. I forgot to bring our official scorecards. However, here's my personal report:

OVERALL AWESOMENESS OF THE BURGER: I'd say this burger was pretty damn awesome, but not mind-blowing - 4 stars
BURGER WAS COOKED TO MY SPECIFICATIONS: I'm pretty sure the burger was cooked to everybody's specifications - 5 stars
QUALITY OF THE BUN: The buns kinda sucked. They were unspectacular. They didn't fall apart like the Port of Call Burger, but they were shitty SYSCO buns - 1 star
QUALITY OF THE DRESSING: - Unspectacular as well. The lettuce and tomato were just kinda "there". Oh, and I almost forgot, THEY GAVE US NO PICKLES - 0 stars!
OVERALL ATMOSPHERE: I liked the atmosphere. Kinda dive-y. Good jukebox. ESPN on tvs on mute. Our bartender/waitress was cool and kinda hot. - 4 stars
VALUE: The final bill was $60. We all had a burger (of course) and two beers. I had a loaded potato and Chris and Sarah had mac and cheese. My potato ruled and their mac sucked - 3 stars for value.
ACCESSIBILITY - Parking in the quarter isn't that bad if you're trying for a 6:30-7:00 dinner - 4 stars, since its a 5 minute drive for me.

FINAL SCORE:
AWESOMENESS OF BURGER: 4 STARS
OTHER STUFF: 3.4

Might have to revisit Yo Mamas. It was bad when I went last year, but I was kinda sick at the time. Had DOWN THE HATCH the other day, it was good.
