Midgets with sombraros on. The top of the sombraro is where the salsa goes, and the chips go on the floppy part. I've actually seen this in person at a party once. They were walking chip & dip dispensers! hahahaha....

Go for the end of September again.

Noooo! I have a wedding to go to at the end of September! Actually September is usually about the worst month for me period...

I mean who are we planning this around? A god-fearing amurican or some foreigner who's probably a terrrrrist! I mean, didn't you watch the state of the union? I mean, I didn't, but I'm sure there was something about that in there...

They had a hot dog eating contest between Kobayashi and a grizzly bear.
The bear won.

If we drive down from pittsburgh I wanna see a rematch in the goner store.

"Float trip on the Mississip!"

-A floating Gonerfest sounds like a great idea!

wait - maybe not....scratch that.
Posted: Feb 7, 2006 8:58 pm

floating face down in MS... actually, we've looked into boats. exploring options, but it doesn't seem likely.
Posted: Feb 7, 2006 9:14 pm

How about a scavenger hunt (not necessarily during the shows) that might require some Memphis knowledge or would lead out of towners on an exploratory journey of all "must see" Goner sites. For example, one required item may reside in some Goner's basement where there just happens to be a house party with band playing. Another item may be at some sponsored restaurant that requires eating your way to the item. Perhaps one of the tasks is to leave Goner paraphernalia at a local television station's green room. Of course, all roads would lead back to the store in an attempt to find the bonus item - hidden inside a record sleeve (records must be purchased prior to looking). Dunno. Just thinking of something that might be fun for people who've never been to Memphis.
Posted: Feb 7, 2006 9:31 pm

River Boat has been done, but could be fun. It'd be crazy to watch the stumbling on the cobblestones, though.

Scavenger Hunt sounds fun! But we'd have to get a bunch of designated drivers.

Train Station? I always encourage out-of-towners to put their foot on that train rail because of the music history that has been on those rails.

What happened to Putt-Putt or the drive in? Too far from Goner, maybe (10 to 15-minute drive, I'm thinking)?

What about shutting down the Madison Flame, just to turn it into the Antenna for a weekend? Then you'd have Murphy's accross the street?

Or, what the hell? Why not Liberyland the weekend before the fair. It ain't gonna be around anymore, might as well get some use out of it... You've got the First weekend, which ends on Monday the 4th (Labor day, so it wouldn't hurt the Telethon they have there. Cooper-Young would be the weekend after or the next, then finally, the Mid-South Fair (if that place even opens this year). They have that little amphitheatre, and you could make Dtrain dress up in his old uniform...

If only there were still a 'Round the Corner still in town...

You will NEVER get me in that fucking parrot suit again! No way no how!

Let's do it at the Overton Park Shell!

I've looked into that place for some other stuff, and the venue is definitely closed at this time.

Please be a parrot. Pretty please.

If you can secure Goner Fest III at fucking Liberty Land, AND locate the smelly godam PARROT suit , then ok. But only for pictures . And the costume has to wear a GONER t-shirt. Ha! The suit is too big for a GONER t-shirt!

'68 Comeback reunion with all the players who have ever played with Monsieur Jeffrey Evans in that incarnation..that would be sweet!

Jack's dead
George is supposedly reformed but dunno if he'd be welcome in Memphis
Darren Lin Wood ?????

but YES to Peggy, Dan Brown, Cartwright, that Marty dude, Jeff Bouck, Jack Yarber, Nick Diablo, Scott Bomar, and all the others who played with Jeff!!!

and while we're at it, hows about a CC Riders reunion? Alicja on tubs, Jay filling in for Jack Taylor on ridiculous guitar noises. what a great band...
Posted: Feb 22, 2006 1:44 am

you're readin' my mind,honey!
Posted: Feb 22, 2006 3:45 pm

I should say first of all that the following statement is made with all due respect for Mr. Jack Yarber. How about you let him play with a decent band at GF3? By that I mean the Tearjerkers, but the Cool Jerks could also apply.
No more side projects. Cartwright got to headline last year. I think it's Jack's turn.
I wouldn't bother trying to get BaByQ, but if you could get The Spits back in Memphis that would be great.
Posted: Feb 22, 2006 5:15 pm

pretty sure CC Riders was always Jay, Alicja, and Jeff- with James Arthur on ridiculous noises for a time... but maybe jt was in there for a bit.

cdr documentation here!

maybe jt was in there for a bit.
oops, what I meant was that Jay was making the weird feedback noises, as did Jack in '68 Comeback --
I totally under-appreciated the CC Riders when they were around!
Posted: Feb 23, 2006 2:11 am

oh and an Oblivians reunion would be nice. Still got that keyboard from the tiptops b-side?
Posted: Feb 23, 2006 2:20 am

Quick follow up here. Listening to rock ' n roll holiday today, did Greg used to drink alot more? Just asking as someone who has never had the pleasure of seeing the Oblivians perform, but who has seen Cartwright on numerous occasions with the Reigning Sound. His demeanor on the album is so much different than anything I've ever seen.

how bout this.. no bands at all. Just have a set of instruments set up somwhere like Hi-tone or Goner and people just sign up to play whatever..kinda like open mic. No practice just jammin...like a buncha filthy hippies. And you could make up your band names as ya sign up.. Know what im sayin?? sounds kinda silly, i know.

I think towards the end of September or very early October would be the best time for Goner III. That is the time of year when people do the less traveling because the kids are in school and work and such and the weather is still nice so it could be a good time

By the way, Amtrak still has not responded to any of my e-mails or voice messages...

Eh?
Posted: Apr 17, 2006 8:48 pm

There's a thread about George Michael in the ???? section of the board. I need an English to English translator for half of the article. It uses words like "prang" and "boot" and "sex toys".
Posted: May 10, 2006 3:11 pm

Any new thoughts on this?
I think we should incorporate Summer Avenue drive in somehow. It would suck if it rained, but rent some school busses and one of the lot's of the drive in. Bands should play under the movie screen. There should be Alien on the movie screen. There should probably be buckets underneath each seat on the school busses.

It seems the best place for Gonerfest might be any one of the fine titty establishments on Brooks road.

You can't go wrong with rock n roll and titties.

Just like Waylon said, "The only two things in life that make it woth livin, is guitars that tune good and firm feeling women"

Any one of them have large stages, enough space to accomodate a bands equipment, and still have room up there for some dancers to grind it out. Plus they have large back lots for cook outs and volleyball nets. Maybe wiffle ball?
Posted: May 24, 2006 7:41 am

the drive in thing would be seriously fun with movies...like have one night there, maybe the thursday of it or something. it's serious fun to go and watch movies and cook out there and drink. really laid back. last time, we even brought in a minikeg.

and please no shake junts. i only go there when i'm fucking out of my mind on something and drunk in combo.

i think that having a "jam session" ala the this damn town show would be quite a bit of fun. i know i thoroughly enjoyed that.

i would love to see a daytime cookout thing or maybe a goner potluck on saturday and in store shows the entire weekend. good times. i'm just gonna have to sleep the entire week before and week after to make up for my partying, this i know...
Posted: May 24, 2006 8:03 am

Based on attendace from last year's Fall social, everyoune should fit in my well manicured back yard, complete with stage for one night. Not too far from the Drive in, either. I have sound equipment. Memphis Venture Capitalists, e-mail me!
Posted: May 24, 2006 8:03 am

attendace
I have no idea what that means.

Smell-O-Vision

I would like to go ahead and request now that I DO NOT receive one of those. I had a great time at both of the previous Goner Fests, but I think that it is largely due to the fact that I was too drunk to remember what it smelled like. I plan on not remembering the smell of this next Goner fest as well.

Better tri-state promotion!
I always miss these just because I live in STL, but I love Memphis and adore Goner Records.
Perhaps we could work out some sort of Record Store cross-promotional trade- I'm at Vintage Vinyl, but I'm sure Apop Records would be down.
